Peter King on SNF
Soo did anyone happen to see Peter King's comments on SNF?
He basically stated that VC DS and Zorn just had a meeting and Zorn has been asked to relinquish his play calling duties (not an ultimatum but a suggestion) in order to concentrate on head coaching duties and coaching the qb. Do you think Zorn will agree to that? Tony Dungy commented that would be the biggest mistake Zorn can make. What do you guys think? |

Re: Peter King on SNF
One of two things behind this move. Either Snyder truly has no plans to fire Zorn during the season but sees that something has to change or he's trying to demonstrate that he's not actively impulsively and just firing the coach by giving him the option to stay and fix things.
Either way, as Michael Ray Richardson once said, the ship be sinking. |
Re: Peter King on SNF
one shot after another and another. this thing is coming to an end fast if this is true its not a suggestion
i think zorn should just take over as our starting qb for about one game then get a free pass back to seattle |

Then we'd be able to really see who at fault for this POS poor excuse of a competitive squad. Can Zorn possibly be anymore usurped than he has this season??? Grow a sack of testicles and stand up for yourself. I know the money is good but how far are you willing to discredit your professional career? Signing a deal with Snyder is doing a deal with the devil...you gain the world but lose your soul in the process. |
Re: Peter King on SNF
sounds like the groundwork for his firing he refused to give up the playcalling so he was fired dungy is right he would show the team he didn't have faith in himself so why then would the team have faith in him (if it does)

Yeah Dungy said that's what led to him loosing his job in Tampa and Zorn should give the front office an ultimatum: either let me coach my way or fire me. |

Either way, as Michael Ray Richardson once said, the ship be sinking.
King did not know who would call the plays if Zorn agrees, also DS is doing this to give Zorn a chance to fix things and that for the time being Zorn will still be the coach for the next game or 2. |

I completely agree with Dungy. Why doesn't the front office just give him an effing club level seats to the next game. That's pretty much what they are telling him. Cerrato: "...Hey Zorn...take these, they're in section 108, seat 5. Just glance over at GB and Sherm every other play or so and see if they're still awake. Thanks pal!" Zorn should not stand for this if he has any professional scruples. He's completely making an ass of himself from a professional standpoint. ZORN...THEY CAN'T FIRE YOU WITHOUT PAYING YOUR ENTIRE SALARY! If it's about the money then take it and have them fire you. |
Re: Peter King on SNF
Sounds like he's being set up to me.
|
Re: Peter King on SNF
At this point he should just take his money and go home..

It does seem like he's hosed either way. |
Re: Peter King on SNF
I guess I'm in the minority here, but I think it's a great idea. Even Gibbs gave up playcalling in Gibbs 2.0 and just about everyone agreed that Zorn was taking on too many jobs in trying to be everything. If I was Zorn I'd ask for a written promise (with a million dollar bonus if Danny renigs) that he not be removed until after the season and see how it goes with someone else calling plays. It's still his gameplan, offense and direction.
|
Re: Peter King on SNF
DS is basically saying look let Sherm get the play calling duties so he can get some weeks under his belt and so we can fire you after the bye so step aside and goodbye.

Re: Peter King on SNF
The Skins have a championship in one area, cynical fans.
If Zorn can't see that this team is sinking fast he shouldn't be the HC anyways. If they can work together to find a solution that gets this team headed in the right direction then everybody will be happy. It's ridiculous to say he should refuse. Hell my boss and I were talking today, and he had a story of a guy who lost his job cuz the boss said come in at 8 and this guy refused. Zorn does need to grow a pair, but he needs to man up and realize that he needs help and not let his ego interfere with finding a winning recipe on this team. |
Re: Peter King on SNF
Can't get any worse. This offense is a putrid, sputtering joke. From a Redskins standpoint, this is probably a good thing. From a Zorn standpoint... Well, I think he knows he's outta here anyway. He might as well take a little stress out of his work week.

Re: Peter King on SNF
Any coach that comes in here is going to have to deal with a front office that is a nightmare. I would not wish this coaching job on my worst enemy. Things will never improve and we will never return to greatness until something is done in the front office.

Re: Peter King on SNF
I am going to take a different view of this and say that Zorn is absolutely NOT the problem. He can only work with the tools that are given to him and those are some of the dullest, most broken and inadequate tools anywhere. Who bought those tools? Vinny Cerrato and Daniel Snyder. I have seen more passes dropped. More passes thrown away from the receiver. More linemen give up their blocks. More runners fail to attack the gap. More cornerbacks drop interceptions. More defensive players flat out MISS tackles....than I have ever seen on any team not at the Pop Warner level. That is NOT on Zorn. That is on one of the worst collections of players I've seen. These guys are paper tigers. They hype themselves up every year as though we should just go ahead and hand them the Lombardi Trophy. And every year we get the same thing...failure. What is the only constant over the past 10 years of losing? Snyder and Cerrato. So, Zorn may take the fall, but I guarantee you that until we get a REAL GM with REAL AUTHORITY, the results will continue to be dismal and the next coach will take the fall, and the next and the next. I love the Skins, but I hate this front office as much as I hate the Cowgirls.

I have the same hope that you do, that the offense may improve with someone else calling the plays. Some tendencies should be broken up, if nothing else. But there is no guarantee that change will be for the better. I agree with Dungy. Zorn should be drawing the line on this one, even though he's not. He's delaying the inevitable. He's going down; he might as well go down swinging. |
Re: Peter King on SNF
Wasn't this guy initially hired to be the play caller? This whole era has been a bit of a head scratcher.

Plus most of the fans here don't have the balls to tell their on boss no. I think its a good idea for Zorn to give up play calling, just look at our offense this season. |

Yep, unless they ended up hiring a HC that wanted it himself. |

Like Riggins said in his famous youtube video "Snyders already castrated Zorn"

Why did the FO think Zorn could 'do it all' in the first place?

1. Cheaper 2. Easier to fire 1 man when Cowher,Holmgren,Shanahan and Gruden want to coach again. We all knew Zorn was a stop gap HC from the beginning that was hired and promoted after the other candidates turned us down. |

If Im wrong correct but, doesn't every new HC bring in his own coaches and assistants to teach the team their way of football. Not this, lets pickup this coach here and there then lets find a HC to run the team. I mean if you hire a Offensive Cord. before a HC, who says they run the same offense or for that matter have the same football philosophy. I just saying thats whats being done here, with the Dan and Vin Show! |
Re: Peter King on SNF
well It's official he wont be calling plays anymore

well first off he was hired as OC meaning he wouldn't have to do it all, but we knew we wouldn't be able to pull him over just as a glorified QB coach, so he needed a title eventually we were like heh, nobody is going to be our HC... at that point Zorn could've decided to allow Sherman Smith to call the plays as he found his role, but he didn't |

You might want to re-think this. The staff has less experience than Steve Spurrier's, which had hardly any. I'll tell you who saw this coming back in April 2008...jsarno, that's who. |

If you're qualified professional you should have no problem telling your boss "no" because you should be skilled enough in what you're doing. If your boss doesn't like the way you work then you can find work and pay elsewhere, if you are a skilled enough worker. ...believe me...if you're a skilled worker companies will walk on eggshells around you. If the opposite is true, then you'll have to walk on eggshells around "the boss". It just goes to show Zorn's ineptitude overall as a professional head coach. This is no fault of his own but Cerrato who brought in someone who could be easily influenced by money and advancement and not someone who is a qualified professional and thus has to walk on eggshells around the boss. Your boss won't ever fire you for doing your job. |

Man you really hit the nail on the head. The only thing left is for us to continue saying the same thing until we see that positive change. I think we all recognize what the problem is but we're powerless to do anything about it. |

I agree...because he's not qualified with the skills to be a head coach in the NFL. Who's fault is that? This whole debacle has been a reflection of the severe mismanagement of the team. I'm glad this season took place because now it won't just be the informed fan who can see these glaring problems with our franchise. Now the national media can highlight the utter ineptitude of our front office and hopefully be a conduit for change. |
