They should have done this in the pre-season.
|
re: Redskins cut Mason and Alridge, sign OT Levi Jones
Bout time. Has Vinny been reading my posts?
|
re: Redskins cut Mason and Alridge, sign OT Levi Jones
The Jones move is solid. But is Ganther really better than Mason?
|
re: Redskins cut Mason and Alridge, sign OT Levi Jones
Levi Jones and RB signed; Alridge, Mason released
The Redskins have released running backs Anthony Alridge and Marcus Mason and have signed offensive lineman Levi Jones and running back Quinton Ganther. The team also released Glenn Pakulak, who punted in place of Hunter Smith the last two games, and re-signed Renaldo Wynn. |

Mike Williams showed mee a little bit on Sunday, but i can't say the same for Heyer. |
re: Redskins cut Mason and Alridge, sign OT Levi Jones
Isn't it a little early or a little late to be bringing in a "Camp Body"?

re: Redskins cut Mason and Alridge, sign OT Levi Jones
A little scouting report on Ganther.
Running back Quinton Ganther is a downhill runner who packs substantial power in his 5-foot-9 frame. He is versatile enough to contribute as a featured tailback or a fullback. In his first two years with the Titans, he spent the majority of his time on the team’s practice squad (on active roster Sept. 16-30, 2006 and Oct. 20-Nov. 5, 2007). Then, in 2008, he spent his first full season on the club’s 53-man roster, contributing nine carries for 61 yards and six receptions for 43 yards in 13 games. In pre-draft workouts, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds and bench pressed 430 pounds. He was selected with the Titans’ third pick of the seventh round (compensatory selection, 246th overall) in the 2006 NFL Draft. |

Ganther was selected in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans at pick number 246 overall. He appeared in two games of the Titans in the 2006 NFL season, recording a tackle assist, and spent time on the practice squad. |
re: Redskins cut Mason and Alridge, sign OT Levi Jones
Levi Jones was unemployed for a reason, he's just a name.

re: Redskins cut Mason and Alridge, sign OT Levi Jones
Hopefully this helps O-line depth, but I'm sorry that we haven't seen Alridge on the field during a regular season game. I can't imagine that Jones will be ready for at least a few weeks, so I agree with the earlier post that Jones should have been signed much earlier in the season.

I would have kept Mason or Alridge.

Alderidge I don't even think touched the field. He wasn't active for any game that I saw. Mason, our 5th RB, took some snaps and was relatively ineffective. Cerrato got to tell an inspriational story of how he kept Mason after all these years of him trying out but it ends up being for naught. It just looks like Sherman Lewis is the catalyst for these moves. It's strange that out of nowhere these moves take place after he is announced play caller. |

Heyer was horrible on Sunday. I thought he and Vrabel were auditioning for dancing with the stars. |
Re: Redskins cut Mason and Alridge, sign OT Levi Jones
Good signing. Here's to the rebuilding of the OL. Now, we just need June Jones to sign.

If the Packers and Lions both past on him, that is a red flag. I just dont know anymore...I cant trust any move by the FO as long as Vinny is running things. |

Well 3 of the guys who started for us last week probably haven't even earned "just a name" status. |

True dat. If the Packers are passing on anyone right now, that's a huge red flag. |

As for the Levi Jones pickup, he's can't be any worse than what we have. |

I agree, Heyer is pathetic. |
Heyer was horrible on Sunday. I thought he and Vrabel were auditioning for dancing with the stars.
Heyer was playing out of position on Sunday. The plays he got beaten on were technique issues. If he's playing where he belongs at RT, those plays don't happen. Any bad plays he made, I blame the coaching staff for.
I think the play with Vrabel was against MW. And he absolutely whiffed on that play. Never put your head down, or that's what happens. |

Let's face it they had to do something. |
Re: Redskins cut Mason and Alridge, sign OT Levi Jones
I'm sure Levi Jones wanted to be a starter somewhere, maybe the Lions and Packers didn't guaranteed him that...with Samuels out for the year he pretty much has the starting spot (I hope).
Besides, this is better than going to against the Iggles with Heyer and Williams. |
Re: Redskins cut Mason and Alridge, sign OT Levi Jones
Not that it would have been any better, but I think Runyan would be an upgrade over Levi Jones. Bottom line is they are both old and won't be any better than what we got.

Vrabel beat him at least three of four times with a straight line to Campbell. |

This may shock people, since I banged the Levi Jones drum all off season, but I agree. If this makes sense now, then it made sense after the first sunday game, when contracts weren't guaranteed for the season. If they thought our younguns would be good enough, then now they should have the cahonas to stay with them. If they didn't and hoped that Samuels would last longer into the year than that was poor planning for an expected injury. Now they bring LJ in and he has to get conditioned. Yes I am happy he is here, but the way he got here was poorly handled |

Levi is five years younger than Runyan |

Wasn't Runyan basically trying to figure out whether he was able to play health-wise? |

If anything, this is a clear sign that Samuels is going on the IR. Otherwise, why else sign Jones today?

Not at LT. And if Jones isn't any better than Heyer, we really have problems. |
