ochocinco fined $20,000
ochocinco was fined for his fake bribery attempt $20,000. i think thats a bit excessive, i miss good old end zone dances, maybe it's just me, but while i don't like celebrating after making an average tackle when you score you should be able to celebrate, i think the nfl is taking away part of the game that is fun to watch and if they say it's cause of time, then they should knock out some of the tv timeouts

Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
Not a fan of Chad "Ochocinco" but this is silly. It wasn't serious and I don't even think the ref really saw what he was doing. However the NFL has a long history of being the no fun league.

Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
He does these not-so-funny stunts for personal attention, so I have no problem with increasing the dollar amount every time. It's getting old.
This fine money goes to charities, right? He's going to end up like MC Hammer after his playing days...he throws so much of his money away. |

He went to Clairs and bought cubic zirconia ear rings and made the statement just because you have money doesn't mean you have to spend it... |
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
The NFL reminds me of working for corporate america. No fun. 20k for what he did is just ridiculous. Those stiff suits on Park Avenue really need to chill out.
|
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
I though the ear ring thing was hilarious and started liking Ochocinco because of Hard Knocks... Before that I always thought he was TO Junior, but Hard Kocks really showed that he is just a smart ass who loves performing for an audience, whether its clowning or catching TD's. Reminds me of Riggo a little honestly...

I'm glad some NFL players get that. I don't think he has any problems paying the fines....whatever celebration/stunt makes him feel better is good with him. |
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
I think he deserved this much of a fine, if not more. It seems unfair, but if you think about it for a second it makes sense.
To the NFL the upmost importance, is keeping a good image. That is why it is one of the most popular leagues. There is almost zero doubt about the refs credibility. They makes millions of dollars a year, and that is all at stake. The harsh fee is to show other players and the rest of us the NFL holds the refs to high integrity standard. I am glad they did that. |
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
I think his stunt was fine, and he should not have been fined. Of course, I love all the escapades. From the fun bunch on, look if a team doesn't want another team to celebrate Stop them. It can be done to any team and any player. All these fines for celebrating are ridiculous.

Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
technically this wasn't a celebration either, it was an antic.
|
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
I love Chad Ochocinco. He never gets in trouble off the field and he has FUN on the field. His stunts never hurt anyone or offend anyone. They're in good fun. I typically hate 106.7, but they made a good point today. He gets fined 20000 for that, and Mike Smith gets 15000 for grabbing a player and talking trash to him? If DHall grabbed Mike Smith by the collar, what would happen to him?
CJ is a great player who has fun. I'd take him in a second, at least we'd have a legitimate player on offense besides cooley. |
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
The fine seems a bit steep, perhaps it's due to him being a repeat offender?
I don't mind Ocho, if you follow him on twitter you'll see he's actually a good cat, very generous too. He'll tweet that he's going to the movies and anybody that shows gets in free, and he'll post a pic of him and like 50 people hanging out. |
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
I'd trade Portis for Ochocinco any day of the week!
|
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
I think if CJ were here, he'd be another DeAngelo Hall, there would be fans with agendas bitching and whining about everything he would (and wouldn't) do.
On a related note, so Goodell is telling me that what CJ did is similar to what Mike Smith did, hence the same amount of $$ fined? |

it may very well be escalation, but still too high imo, i'm just not happy with goddell's overall handling of the league the past few year i really miss the way the league was run back in the 80's, just seemed like it was alot more fun back then, he has made some good moves but overall i'm not a fan, and don't even get me started on his stupid ass obbsession with the nfl being in europe, lame |

100% agree. |
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
Damn, borrowing a dollar from an assistant coach ends up costing you 20 grand. No fun league indeed
|
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
This is a retarded amount for a fine. First of all, he didn't actually bribe the ref, he never got to him. It was a dollar...come on. I can't stand this guy, and most of his fines were right on, but not this one.
Sportscenter was right on, how can Hall not get fined for his altercation with the falcons sidelines, and Mike Smith get a 15000 fine for his actions, but Chad Johnson (I will not call him by the name he made up) gets 20k? Nope...not right. |

Yeah he's cool when they are winning, but second they start losing watch out. |
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
NFL = No Fun League.
I'm not down for elaborate endzone celebrations, but come on. Like a few weeks ago where the Raiders player got fined for going down to his knees to praise God? He got fined for that because of some rule that's like "You can't leave your feet for a TD celebration" (something to that affect) Obviously there's a line between celebrating and unsportsmanlike/taunting but there's also a line between being a reasonable disciplinarian/supervisor and being a no fun dbag. Goddell is hovering over to that dbag side. |
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
This was classic overkill from the stiffs in the NFL offices. He did something for a laugh, clearly with no intent to impugn the integrity of the game or imply the refs can be bought. It's just another example of Goodell being overly aggressive and heavy handed in his handling of player related issues. He's going to be the reason for a lockout in 2 years. The more I see of his regime, the less I care for him.

Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
They say that players don't do it for fun.. then they take the fun away
|

No
Fun League They are killing the game. |

hm seems like I am the only guy who thinks this fine was justified.

Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
first, ochocinco is a dbag. i also just remembered the other day that this is not the correct way to say eighty five in spanish. lmao FAIL.
but roflz @ 20 FUCKING THOUSAND DOLLARS. where does that figure come from? what a fucking joke. that could be someones yearly salary for a stupid joke that hurt nobody and didn't even really HAPPEN. |

Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
Roger Goodell has also been criticized for his overly-rigid attitude towards players. First he took away the ability for players to celebrate touchdowns with props and just recently he fined Chad Ochocinco for pretending to offer an official a $1 bribe.
it's like wiki was reading my mind |

Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
Personnaly I think he tries to immitate TO.
But as far as the NFL applying some type of disciplinary action to a professional athlete that "fakes a bribe to an official" is appropriate. What would happen if he were to wave money in front of a judge? (not that that is an exact analogy). And if the league does nothing, what's the next "fake bribe"...100$, something even more inappropriate. Don't get me wrong. I love'd the fun bunch, the smurfs and all the end zone celerabrations of the past but pretending to bribe an official is very different than celebrating a good play. |
hm seems like I am the only guy who thinks this fine was justified.
If you take out any personal biases or agenda you have against Ochocinco then how can you justify a $20,000 fine for his action? |
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
Well, he's hitting the cap for about $6.5Million this year so for him I doubt $20k has much of an impact financially.
So the real question (I'm assuming) is whether or not $20K is an appropriate fine? Not the fact that the action should result in a fine....? |
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
By this fine, I meant the specific fine charged to ochocinco( aka 20k). I never said a fine was right or wrong. So booyah.
And read my first post in this thread as to why I think 20k is more than fair. I have nothing personal against him at all. Anyone who brings money to the ref like that should be fined. The fact it was a joke doesn't matter. |

never heard that, even once. and lol the jokes still on him...fuck how it sounds, ochentacinco is a MASCULINE noun in spanish. not that that fucking dbag would give a shit. |
Re: ochocinco fined $20,000
I think having the $1 bill on the field was entertaining but, saying in an interview that you were bribing the officials was dumb. He obviously didn't do that. He should have been more clever and said he made a bet with BAL defense that CIN would win.
