RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Redskins Insider - How long will Rogers' benching last?
Ok, full disclosure, I don't like Carlos Rogers. Never have, never will. I think he's got the attitude of a Hall of Famer and the talent of a journeyman. That out of the way, I wasn't surprised that he got benched after giving up yet ANOTHER long TD when he bit on a double move and quit on the play. After the best win of they season, here are some of his comments..
"I gave up the first one," Rogers said. "It was a double-move. After that I didn't play no more. After that, it was on whoever it was. I really didn't pay attention." "It's nothing new to me," Rogers said. "Anything that happens around here ain't nothing new to me. I went through it last year. I was benched after the first half of the season I had. ... "I didn't really worry about it, and I'm not really going to think about it. I ain't even going to think about no future here."
I'll be glad to see him gone after this season. |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Did he attend the "Emmit Smith Learn Speak English Academy"? Heck, I'd say Emmit sounds like he has PHD when compared to Los.
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Yep, likely not to be here. Hell his play this year hasn't excited me, but we'll be worse without him.
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Cry me a river Los....Im a Los supporter and think he decent cover guy and showed that the previous 2 seasons, but this season he hasnt been good. Your only as good as your last game, well your last play..right? His comment :"I ain't even going to think about no future here" We should be able to find a guy to replace him.... Bye Bye Carlos...Tell Portis and JC to save him a seat on the bus out of Washington in the offseason
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
He was as good as gone earlier in the season when he talked shit on the FO. You knew he was accepting his pink slip then. I wouldn't wanna put Rogers out on the field for the remainder of the year, honestly.
He's ok (very okay. What good is a CB that can bat down passes but can't catch for shit?), but he doesn't have the team's best intentions at heart anymore. All he wants now is to get the eff out of DC ASAP. |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Why wait until the offseason? I say Keyshawn him. Zorn can show that this is still his team for now and suspend him for "conduct detrimental" thanks to these comments.
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Fuck Carlos Rogers and his Auburn teamate JC!!! Atleast JC never quits but they both suck ass and are BIG problems on our D AND O!!!
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Blache probably made the right move to sit him down, because his level of play on that first drive was not acceptable. First, good tape study from McDaniels and Co. to know that Rogers will bite on deep comeback action. Marshall probably still has his jock.
Of course, the troubling aspect is that you know if Hall had made the same mistake, Blache would have excused it as a bad call, and just generally enabled his bullshit. There's a standard that Blache has for Hall and Landry, and then there's the standard for everyone else. Scheming aside, that's why Blache is a bad coach. |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Rogers strikes me as somethin as a headcase, though one could argue the way he's been coached could be the reason I guess. That said he's not a shutdown corner against the top WR in football, which sucks because it we don't have anyone else to fill that role either. The other big thing about Rogers is his horrible ball skills, so he can't be a big play type of corner. I REALLY doubt there will be much of a market for him. He'll go somewhere next year but it won't be an impressive contract.
Totally agree w/ GTripp: Blache is a crap coach. There's no reason IMO he should still have a job because his group is definitely not playing up its potential and he's not returning anyway. Fire him and give the best position coach a shot to see what we might have going for next year. |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Just to point out, the most benchable offense (defined as the event that would have been more decisively corrected by a benching) was Hall's completely inexcusable lateral after his pick. Very nearly handed the Broncos the ball inside our red zone and for no damn good reason at all.
What happens? Nothing. This is the kind of crap that Redskins football is right now. |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
wow screw this guy...learn to speak english and freaking play football, what a joke
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Why am I not surprised that GTripp flipped this as a way to criticize Hall? Lol..
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
So my fellow Warpath members you do not think we will re-sign him and make him our # 1 WR in 2010 :) We won today .... where are the cowboys fans tonight ... trying to crawl under a rock ?
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Why am I not surprised that GTripp flipped this as a way to criticize Hall? Lol..
Well, I thought you covered the "Rogers sucks" angle about as thoroughly as necessary.
If your point was that Rogers is a dumbass though, I was just pointing out that by no means is he the trendsetter in the secondary. I can't stand that our coordinator is neither process nor results oriented, but more concerned about making sure some players get breaks while others get punished. That, at least, has little to do with either Rogers or Hall. |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Keep in mind: when Hall is beaten badly one on one vs a TE on the Giants with safety help over the top, it's a bad scheme. When Rogers is beaten one on one by the No. 1 WR for the Denver Broncos on a double move with no safety help, it's classic underachieving.
Noted: that you can't expect to play winning defense without taking risks that require Rogers to look competent in these situations. Rogers got pwned. A good coordinator might chew him out on the sideline, but would certainly take the blame for the call post game. Blache is no one's image of a good coordinator. Just another guy on this team collecting a paycheck. |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
does he have any trade value?
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Whats Kevin Barnes up to?????
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Blatche is coaching a top 5 defense and he is a shit coach? that is straight up a dumb comment. he sat rodgers and we won. sounds good to me.

People eat mediocrity up these days. |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Well just to show how much of a fanatic fan I am I watched the first 7 min. of the game and saw the TD he gave up. Then went and continued cleaning out my attic and on to the land fill. I did listen to it though and watched the end but I didn't notice he was taken out of the game. I guess it speaks to how excited I get that he's in the game.
It's painfully obvious he will most likely not be here next yr and thankfully obvious he does not want to be here. I just hope he gets to eat some humble pie like some of the others that have left us, or have had to re-sign at vet minimum. I can only pray someone else step the hell up ....(cough,cough) Barns (cough, cough), (cough, cough) Tryon (cough, cough), or pick someone up in the off season to replace him. As much as I thought it would be SSDD it's nice to see a win. The players definitly needed it. Good win during an unexpected time. Thankfully I was wrong when I said they wouldn't win another game. :) |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Rogers football IQ is suspect.
He's a decent bump and run CB. But he has a nasty penchant for giving up the big play. And IF this article is accurate he seems to have a bad attitude to boot. I say sit him for the rest of the season start Smoot but also try and get Tryon and Barnes in the mix. |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
I don't think there's any doubt that Rogers' attitude is closer to 2006 Jerry Porter than a team looking to win can be reasonably comfortable in, and I don't think it's any secret he hates playing in this defense. You could probably suspend him for conduct detrimental to the team if you really wanted to.
But again, it would distract from the real problem. Our pass defense has been horrendous this year. Luckily, playing the Rams, Lions, Bucs, Panthers, and Chiefs has given the general misconception of adequacy where there is none. But these struggles have come in spite of the fact that the Redskins enjoy a top 5 NFL pass rush, and frankly, neither corner (plus Tryon) has played so terrible this year where you could say, "that's why were not winning". The coverage breakdowns have come, in general, at the safety level. Now, if the corners were better, we could scheme to mask the lack of coverage abilities of our safeties. But our corners are merely adequate. No complaints about the front seven, as they've been excellent all year. |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
I don't get the Rogers hate. He's been one of the better cover corners the Skins have had in the past 10 years.
Everybody hates on the front office for not drafting well and letting good, young, homegrown talent leave, and now everybody is lining up to run him out of town. I find that odd, but fitting, I suppose, for the folks on this site. It's fairly evident that he will be gone next year, and, as a fan, I find that disconcerting. |

I don't have a problem with Carlos I just think he thinks more highly of himself then he's actually worth. He's not a shut down corner. In bumb and run I'll agree he is good, but god forbid he has to play 10-15 yrds off the WR....he sucks. He bites on the first move which was obvious in the TD today and has been mentioned that teams should exploit it. I think it was mentioned in the Bucs game by the announcers. |

I've seen him beaten many, many times in spots for big plays. I can think of 5 off the top of my head (Galloway for a long TD, Plexico for a long TD, last year vs. Cincy in a must win game, D. Jackson a couple weeks ago vs. Philly and today) and that's not even trying to think of any. The one way that a CB can offset that is by creating turnovers when they get the opportunities, which he has shown time and time again he is not capable of doing. Combine that with an awful attitude and for a Top 10 pick, I am surprised he doesn't get MORE heat. ** Edit ** I've been trying to think of who he reminds me of and it came to me, he's a defensive version of Rod Gardner. He's got all the tools, shows that he's got skills at times but kills you at big times. I remember on Hard Knocks with the Chiefs when Herm cut Gardner, he told him that his attitude and 'want to' have been questioned and while he's got talent, to make it as a successful NFL player he needed to get those things in check. Of course Gardner brushed him off and I see Rogers facing a similar path. |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
He really doesn't understand the concept of the "Contract Year". Can't believe he actually said those things.

He simply can't catch, which means he doesn't create turnovers for your team. Maybe he could be a shutdown corner, though I highly doubt it cuz facing elite WRs Rogers typically gets owned at least one or two plays (that's not shutdown). |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Rogers is not an elite cornerback...rather he is an average corner which is fine...except he thinks of himself as elite. Therein lies the problem...if he sees himself as someone with a lot to improve upon and to learn and puts his head down and puts in the work, I would be proud to call him him a Redskin. But to demand accolades which are undeserved is grounds for removal from the team.

Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Inactivate Rogers, or flat out cut him. Bring Barnes up and get him on the field.

That's what i was thinking. The redskins being 3-6 has it's benefits, we can get the younger players so playing time. |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
2005= Worst draft ever!
(Could have had S. Merriman & Aaron Rogers). |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Rogers can GTFO. He is horrible, he has dropped more pick 6s than he has interceptions....another average players who thinks he is awesome.
Any player who basically says "I don't care about the rest of the year" better never see the field again for the Skins. I just don't understand how these guys think? You admit you gave up on the TD play and then you act surprised that you get benched??? The culture of the Skins' is in shambles. |
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
To me it sounds like Rogers just quit. He's mailed it in. Not sure what to say cause he's still probably our best cover guy even though he's playing like shit.
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Rogers , cut him now. Tryon has been doing a decent job.
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Id rather have a young guy who gives 100% than a guy like CR who has clearly mailed it in. Get him outta here.
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
wow even when the team wins a game nobody on this damn site is positive
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
Carlos does not respond to criticism well, when challenged his response is often critical to the challenger. When removed yesterday he seemed less than interested in the remainder of the game. I don't know his future here with the team, but his attitude could use a little adjusting. He has a high opinion of himself that does not match his play on the field.
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
I think Rogers' days as being a starter are over. He generally has a good attitude and would be a good mentor.
|
Re: RI: Rogers doesn't know how long benching will last..
good, glad rogers will most likely be gone. hes not a shutdown guy, and he cant catch. really expected more from the 9th overall pick.
