Now I Understand Why People Act Suicidal In GameDay Threads
Don't be happy, be worried: Sports fans need dose of negative
"You don't want to be in a great mood during the whole game if you really want to enjoy it," said Silvia Knobloch-Westerwick, co-author of the study and associate professor of communication at Ohio State University. "We found that negative emotions play a key role in how much we enjoy sports." |
Re: Now I Understand Why People Act Suicidal In GameDay Threads
Obviously, if you're never down, then up doesn't mean anything
|
Re: Now I Understand Why People Act Suicidal In GameDay Threads
lol id def like to be up more than we are.
|
Re: Now I Understand Why People Act Suicidal In GameDay Threads
what if your never in a great mood? too many downs has to be bad for you
|
Re: Now I Understand Why People Act Suicidal In GameDay Threads
High blood pressure can't be good for you...
I can't stand a Debbie Downer during a game, or one of those types that have to comment on every damn play. People that abuse the DVR rewind suck too. |

Um speak for yourself, I always enjoy one of those blowouts where the game is never in question from start to finish. It's been a while since we've had one of those. |
Re: Now I Understand Why People Act Suicidal In GameDay Threads
How about just staying medium? It has a way of offsetting emotions. The way our team has been playing this season it's easier to expect the worst, but at the same time hope for the best.

Isn't medium the same as apathy? It must be, because our medium Head Coach and his medium QB have caused me to not give a damn anymore. When we get a real NFL Head Coach and a QB whose tempers are way hotter than medium then I may revert to my true manic-depressive game day personality. |

x2 nothing like being way ahead with the annoucers riding your teams jock and you daydreaming about next week's match up and the SB. |
Re: Now I Understand Why People Act Suicidal In GameDay Threads
Remember in December of 05 when Dallas came to town and we just dominated the game from start to finish? There hasn't been a game in the last 4 years that has come close to making me that happy again..

Re: Now I Understand Why People Act Suicidal In GameDay Threads
I would say the last game I loved from start to finish the last game of the '07 season when we dismantled Dallas 27-6.

I only enjoy the blowouts if we're the team that's winning! ;-) More seriously, one can only enjoy it only if one feels beforehand that there is a possibility of losing. If the Redskins play a team of 3-year-olds, the Redskins cannot win, they can only lose. The blowout is only fun if there was the possibility of a loss. Otherwise it's just relief. |

What are you talking about? Umm almost every game this year has been like that... Never in question from start to finish... :cool-smil but seriously yeah it's been a while since we've had a blowout in our favor. |
Re: Now I Understand Why People Act Suicidal In GameDay Threads
I totally get her point. Which games did you enjoy more?
- The 35-7 win dismantling of Dallas in 2005? - The 27-6 beatdown of Dallas in 2007? - The Troy Vincent blocked FG, return by Sean Taylor, facemask on Cowboys adds one untimed down, Novak game-winning FG. - The Mark Brunell-Santana Moss monday night miracle comeback with two TD bombs in the last 5 minutes. I loved them all, but give me the last two any day. I prefer to win in dramatic fashion. I'll remember those games the rest of my life. |
Re: Now I Understand Why People Act Suicidal In GameDay Threads
Sure the dramatic wins are great and a huge rush, but give me a blowout where you control the game from start to finish anyday. Just my preference.

Sounds good to me , my perfect football weekend, OSU 40-Michigan 10 , Washington 16 dallas 10 , Romo 16-34 166 yds two ints , two fumbles , sacked 7 times and Jessica Simpson singing " turn out the lights in Dallas ". |

I was getting tired of people saying the first victory was basically a fluke. It was nice to leave no doubt with the second Cowboys game that season |

I can watch highlights of that game all day, one of my all-time favs too. That was a serious thumping from start to finish, I loved every minute of it. |

I currently have....no memory of such an event? |
Re: Now I Understand Why People Act Suicidal In GameDay Threads
I like the blowouts for sure, but the close, dramatic ones are a bit more memorable for me because:
- The look on the faces of Cowboys fans. Knowing that they went from happy and assured of a win to agony in a matter of seconds is so great. - It feels like a prize fight, where the Redskins are getting beat up and are on the ropes, but they then summon enough gumption for one last charge and put their rival on the canvas right at the bell. Feels like you had to earn it, feels more satisfying. I do like blowouts too though. Probably because they're rare for us. I think the author's point is that if you're kicking ass every single week, it starts to get taken for granted by fans. We sit here and say "yeah well I'd never take it for granted." Actually we probably all would at some subconscious level. When the Pats went 16-0 and were blowing people out every week, they had already won a few Super Bowls, and New England fans weren't intense at all. Throw in recent success by the Red Sox, and I think you had a fan base too used to winning. That's why their stadium isn't intimidating at all. We're more into it and more of a rabid fan base because A) we're starving for wins and B) we're awesome. |

you only like seeing blowouts because you're not used to it...that's why its good to be down, you enjoy the blowouts so much because u are not used to them
