Chad Johnson/Ochocinco considering another name change

Johnson, Ochocinco, "Hachi Go"? Chad's next name change - Shutdown Corner - NFL Blog - Yahoo! Sports

According to someone who watches his broadcasts at UStream -- which I might do someday if my television is stolen, there are no books left in the world, the rest of the internet dies and a sniper is perched outside ready to kill me the second I leave my home -- Chad Ochocinco plans on changing his name again.

He made the announcement on Sunday morning before the game against the Lions. This time, the new name will be "Hachi Go," which is Japanese for "Eight Five." From Glenn S. Moore at The Dugout Sports Show:

"I'm not sure how Mr. Goodell is going to take it," Ochocinco said as he held up the jersey.

But why "Hachi Go"?

A Japanese film crew was in town a couple weeks ago to do a piece on the Bengals for a NFL show over there. They said all NFL fans in Japan know who Chad Ochocinco(notes) is and they seriously made a proposal to Chad to change his last name to "Hachi Go".

"Some fans of mine that are Japanese said I should change my last name to 'Hachi Go'."

Well, by all means, if someone suggested it, you should do it. Can I be in line next? The season after "Hachi Go," I think you should be "Chad Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia." It would mean "Chad Fear of Long Words," but really, I just want to see how it looks on a jersey.

If he were really smart, he'd change his name to Goodell. When he's fined, he can say "How can you do that to family, Roger?"

Why do we still give him attention? No one really cares, so ignore him.

Re: Chad Johnson/Ochocinco considering another name change

That would be awesome. If this was the first name change I would say it was stupid but the damage has already been done so bring on Hachi Go.

By the way anyone think that Godell has gone insane with the fines for celebrations. I mean personally I liked them at first as a bunch of players were making fools out of themselves but wearing a poncho and sombrero on the sidelines for two seconds does not constitute a $30,000 fine.

I wonder if he knows that if he is not careful with his Japanese pronunciation he may call himself "Chopstick 5" or "Bridge 5" by mistake.

I'm guessing not.

It hasn't dawned on him yet, but he needs more than a name change. Here in this area it's located on Martin Luther King Ave. S.E. D.C.

Goodell's fines and stuff now are ridiculous. I say the more people who do stuff, the better. I know its called No Fun League for a reason, but this crap this season is ridiculous.

Tossing the ball to fans, illegal. Touchdown Celebration? Also illegal. Wearing the wrong socks? Definatley illegal.

This stuff is making the game ridiculous. I miss whole team celebrations. Think back to the icky shuffle....wasn't that fun??

unless you flozell adams, then you could bang goodells wife on the fifty yard line and get a $10k fine for it

goodell=fail

Boring! Do something new Chad!

Re: Chad Johnson/Ochocinco considering another name change

it's blatantly obvious that chad does not give a fuck about the fines. he will pay whatever so he can keep being an asshole. it's an acceptable expense for him. IMO, goodell is inadvertently making the NFL look bad by bringing attention to the fact that most of these guys can piss away significant chunks of a normal person's yearly salary for a good in-game laugh or prank. suspend chad if you want to make a statement...although i personally couldn't give a shit what he does and i think it's ridiculous that they're going after him this hard.

I agree.. I think he's entertaining and good for the game. Where are all of the critics that say he's a distraction to his team now that they are winning?

Wonder if he got paid.. or if it's just a publicity stunt.

Would this help him with his one person sports network on twitter? I thinking yes.

Most people don't get it, the guy is just trying to make a statement at the NFL's expense.... I love that he matches the NFL's fines and sends the matching funds to charities. The twitter thing where he says he's seeing a movie and buys tickets for everyone who shows up... Buying a cheap fake Diamond earring on the HBO show Hard Knocks... Instead of some $20,000 dollar diamond like TO would buy. The guy makes fun of himself and he's totally making the No Fun League look like a bunch self important old stuffed shirts who don't realize that the game is not some sacred institution, but a game for fun...

I think it is pathetic that the league would give him a fine in the same neighborhood as Flozell Adam's fine.

Ocho is good fun, but the NFL has their image to protect at the same time. I don't have a problem with Ocho's harmless antics, nor do I have a problem with the NFL slapping fines on him.

agree with you but how high do these fines need to go? there should be a tipping point beacuse soon he'll be gettin fined $100k for bring some fun and some douche like flozell will be getting away with murder

Re: Chad Johnson/Ochocinco considering another name change

Flozell isn't getting away with anything, he was just fined $50k and he could face a suspension for future offenses.

I like what Chad is doing. He's sending a message that the players are going to celebrate no matter what the fine. It's a passionate league. F what Goodell is doing....

We need more guys like TO and Chad as far as their celebrations.

this was his fourth and it's not for throwing footballs into the stands, i just think he should have been suspended this time, it was a cheap shot and could have hurt tuck

I've been here over three years and I can count on one hand the number of people I've met who even know that NFL is a different sport than rugby. You do realize that Japanese people tell you what they think you wanna hear right?

Yup, sometimes that is true. I also remember watching the playoffs at the houses of two different friends, which was not just telling me what I wanted to hear.

if goodell wants to keep fining him, then he needs to tell the producers not to follow ochocinco, he just scored and the camera's followed him on the sideline for a good 30 seconds, and he didn't even do any thing.

tell you what though it is pretty funny he got them to call him ochocinco in the booth

exactly... just like most sports don't follow people that run onto the field during the game anymore

but they call him ochocinco because that was a legal name change.. and that's why it's on his uni too
