What if Fred started 16 games?

This guy has only started 8 GAMES! And has 40 catches and 6 TD'S... If he started 16 games for us this year he would easily have 10 TD'S and around 80 REC. I Love COOLEY but I think this kid is going to be even better. IMO he would have been a Pro Bowler if started all year, this is why many ppl had him a first round selection in 08. O and 4 straight games with a REC TD, when is the last time that's happen for us?

Just think of the other unknown to the league M.Mitchell his speed next year will stretch the field. I hope the right coach comes here because there is talent. Just need some coaching.

Could not say it any better warpaint.. Haynesworth even mentioned this team has alot of talent just bad coaching.. Think about it with Shanahan, he will have Davis at TE (I Still think CC will be traded), Thomas, Moss and Mitchell at WR. If we can somehow find some olineman we could be much improved. ZORN is really a nice guy but a terrible HC. And last night was him mailing it in.

I hope he is a break out player next year but he is a 4.5 guy, DBs are not going to be scared of his speed.
I just don't understand what some people see in him at this point that says he can play in this league.

Re: What if Fred started 16 games?

Imagine a talented 2 TE set like we will have in a Shanahan offense. Also remember Davis has the speed to be flexed out in the slot to create mismatches. I hope they don't trade Cooley because you shouldn't let go of a strength like this when you have it.

He catches what is thrown to him, he is tall and fast of the line and he can plant his foot and release from it well. He could be something special.

Even when the redskins were beaten in all phases of the game last night. The few bright spots within that game was Fred Davis scoring a touchdown.

Oh, how quickly we forget the best that we have. Cooley is a Redskin, and I can't say let's replace him just because he got hurt and Davis plays in his place. If we had Cooley right now we might be looking at different plays being called with two tight ends in the lineup. Nope, I can't agree to a trade of Cooley for a 3rd round pick!

does any team in the league use a 2 T.E set, with both being primary receiving T.E's? i don't think so. more then likely, one of them will go. i hoping Davis stays, for a bunch of reasons

I Hope so!!! But I really could see CC Traded because of our low amount of draft picks... Fred is amazing, he has A.Gates talent at the TE position.

i'm not gonna knock davis or anything but his production is a direct result of sherm lewis calling the plays, zorn did not do a good enough job of getting cooley the ball. i find it amazing(in a bad way) that people want to kick cooley to the curb just because davis is having a good season. cooley is a probowl te.this should be an interresting off season.

you hit the nail on the head my friend

and what alot of these people around here fail to realize is that cooley was always the drop down guy and never really involved with an offense the way sherm lewis knows how to run it. fred davis looks like a stud and i am taking nothing away from what he has done he looks great, but we have never seen cooley involved in a true working wco, the likes of which we have seen spurts of here lately

and for all the guys that want to see cooley traded why wouldn't you want to see a two te set or an option with davis in the slot or cooley in coming out of the back field

keep cooley for next year and then if a two te set doesn't work then you think about moving one of them most likely cooley, until then lets stop talking about trading the one last guy we have who we drafted and groomed into a elite player in the nfl

Re: What if Fred started 16 games?

What if we start creating two set of TEs plays? We have two talented TEs, we just need to get creative w/ plays.. LBs could not over both Cooley and Davis; we can start using rushing plays whole lot more, it would become easier to use Cooley and Davis at same time.. This would set up nice play action plays, only if the offense coordinator (or head coach) knows when to use it..

Why would we want to trade away our best weapon, Cooley? If it wasn't for him, our offense would have been whole lot worse.. Now then, Davis is nice addition.. Redskins FO knew that we were going to draft a talented TE when we already have Cooley.. We should have prepared for it but we weren't..

Davis is more athletic, but Cooley has better hands and can break more tackles. It would be nice to keep both, but if we can get enough for Cooley in a trade, I say do it. It would have to be at least a second round pick, probably more, for me to be happy with it.

Dirtbag59 12-22-2009 06:17 PM

Re: What if Fred started 16 games?

Cooley is an elite Tight End. Fred Davis is very good, but to trade a guy at Cooley's level is absurd, especially when he isn't a locker room distraction like D. Hall. Plus you guys are forgetting the most important part. The team takes a cap hit of $4 million if the CBA gets passed and Cooley gets traded. I'd be willing to take that kind of hit to get rid of players that don't contribute anymore but Cooley doesn't fall into that category.

Cooley and Davis on the field together will be sick next year. If we can only bolster the O-line, I'm still optimistic that our offense will make huge strides with Cooley and Davis creating matchup problems every week.

^^ well I agree a little bit, cooley is a very good plAyer, but just like Dallas two te's doesn't work in the NFL.. I think Bennett is a stud in the making as well and Dallas will trade him also. Getting back to 86 this guy could become our version of Antonio gates.. With shanny coming in he could use Davis like he did Shannon sharpe.

from what 6 f-ing games get real, zorn was 6-2 at the begining of last year too you remember that? davis has better pontential? i'm not saying he doesn't have upside but i'm not gonna call him the tony g after 6 games take off your homer glasses and be realistic
am i being whooshed?? who else here think Fred hasn't really stepped up this year?
Davis has definitely proven himself a compelling talent over the last month. Cooley's strongest asset over his 6 years is consistency. Prior to Zorn's arrival, he scored 28 TDs in four seasons, which was certainly top-5 among NFL TE's over that stretch. If Davis CONSISTENTLY produces the way he has over the past month, he will be on the short list of great TE's soon enough.

the question is, has davis stepped up or has campbell/sherm lewis finally dicided to start throwing the ball to the te more. why was marko mitchell the best thing since sliced pie during the pre-season, but hasn't done didlydo when given the chance to play during the regular season? answer.....because they actually threw the ball to him in pre-season. i think it's great that davis is showing us that he can be rilied upon to be a starting te but people come on, lets not get crazy. does anyone really think davis is a better te than a healthy chris cooley(not potentialy better) but better right know.

yes he has but you can't say he did that all on his own, it has a huge deal to do with the play calling, huge, right now davis is pretty much the only receiver we have producing anything besides thomas, it's a different coach with different play calling utilizing different receivers.

btw cooley did what davis is doing in is second year in his first year

2004 Washington Redskins gp16 gs 9 rec 37 yds 314 avg 8.5 lng 31 td 6

2009 Washington Redskins gp14 gs 8 rec 40 yds 434 avg 10.9 lng 29 td 6

again if someone could give any reasons why two te's will not work in a wco i am all ears

Fred, dude you are a man. To think, he had so much trouble in his freshman year here. Now the dude has made some of us want to get rid of Cooley. It's amazing how the kid has transformed all our perceptions of him in a few weeks. Fred is worth the second round pick as well as Thomas, but the jury is still out on MK.

Re: What if Fred started 16 games?

Im a real Chris Cooley fan, but we need extra picks to use on the OL...Cooley would easily fetch a 2nd rounder....An extra 2nd rounder would essentially let us draft a 1st round QB, 2nd round OT & 2nd round OT....

Yeah and he's 6'5 and weighs 255lbs. Did you see him play at USC?? He's a baller. All this guy needs is to keep learning how to be a pro and the sky is the limit for this kid. I think we've got a keeper with Davis. Sorry Cooley but you're trade bait cause this guy a physical presense in the red zone.

Assuming all else was equal, why the hell would you keep Cooley? Jersey sales? Sentimental reasons? Makes no sense. Would the perennially elite teams even think twice about this? This is the ultimate no-brainer. Davis is younger. End of discussion.

Who was the last team to win the Super Bowl BECAUSE they had 2 good, high-paid pass catching TEs. Trade Cooley and move on.

Because they are both expensive and the team has big holes elsewhere. Davis started 14 games? Cooley had 6TDs in a full season. Davis has 6 TDs, has only started a handful of games and still has 2 to go. I don't know why this is even a legit discussion. TEs are not THAT important, let alone 2 of them. Who was the Pats TE when they won 3?

Doing some research Davis basically had the same 40 time as Malcolm Kelly. I honestly think that Davis creates mismatches enough that they should do what USC did and make him the #1 receiver. Line him up outside, line him up in the slots, run slants etc. This guy is a freak of nature.

Shanny knows what to do with a tight end. Say hello to Shannon Sharpe part 2...

Who the hell cares if there isn't any team that has utilized two good TEs? No team has ever utilized wildcat formations until Dolphins brought it back last year.. We can be the first team to utilize TEs plays; this would open up our running game..

Perhaps you are misinformed; Cooley is making big bucks, but Davis is not.. Davis is playing on 2nd rounder rookie salary, which is not big bucks compared to Randle El or Portis or Moss, which the players are not worth the money..

The offense this year sucks, yes.. But in Cooley's whole career (except for this year and maybe rookie year), he's been very productive for us.. He always makes 3rd downs catches.. Can you really imagine our offense without Cooley in it in last few years? If it wasn't for Cooley, either Moss or Portis would be our "superstar" on offense.. And neither of those players would be #1 on other many teams..
