Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
UFC is the next up and coming thing IMO. The new champ Machida? He's a bad ass. He rarely gets hit, so I'm not sure he can take a punch. I watched the Fedor / Rogers match. For some reason I knew the Russian was going to win. He can eat punishment like no one's business. All he needs is that one punch, done!
|
Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
i watched the same match. to me, Fedor looked a little out of shape. and i thought they stopped it a tad early. but there is no denying Fedor is a bad ass
|
Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
The UFC is awesome . A little brutal when the guy on the bottom eats a dozen elbows , but an awesome sport . Anderson Silva is a scary dude , very good in every aspect , GSP is a good all around fighter also . That kid from GB < Hardy > has some serious punching power .

Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
UFC/MMA is the best thing out there nothing like it... Boxing is for Fags.. Did you guys see the last one 107 how BJ Destroyed Diego Sanchez and open half of his forhead awsome
|
Re: boxing/ UFC fans?

Im right here with you. I cant wait until March 13 if it happens Manny going to finally put Floyd down. I digg UFC to but there is nothing like some good boxing |
Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
Boxing has gotten a bad beat, but is slowly making it's way back. The Heavyweight division has gotten better thanks to the Klitschkos, and the lower weights still have some great fighters (Marquez, Cotto, Judah, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Mosley, Forrest, Hatton, Pavlik).
UFC is a completely different animal, but both are still entertaining to me. I'm a big GSP fan. Fedor was out of shape against Rogers, and I'd love to see a rematch. Machida is awesome and you figure the winner of Evans/Silva will get a shot at him. I'd love to see someone hand Lesnar his ass to him (Cain Velasquez maybe?). |
Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
Ultimate fighting has already surpassed boxing IMO.
|
Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
Somebody should try actually getting in the ring before saying boxers are fags.....that's my 2 cents
But I agree with Matty...UFC has surpassed boxing, which is a shame when you think of boxing's rich history, before guys like Don King and Butch Lewis ruined everything.... |
Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
Why watch boxing when you get that and a whole lot more watching UFC. Remember when it first started and they had no weight class and you would have some little fart beat the crap out of some large muscle head. Back then I think the only rule was no gouging the eyes and maybe no pulling hair. The only time the ref. ever stopped a fight was if the guy was knocked out and unable to tap out.
|
Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
yeah, the fist "competition" i saw was exactly that. really brutal stuff. i love me some UFC

I remember reading somewhere that boxing made more money with 2 fights (Manny/Cotto and Mayweather/Marquez) than UFC made all year and I highly doubt any UFC fight you can dream of has the potential to make as much money as a Mayweather/Pacquiao can. I don't mind watching UFC fights but I'm still more of a boxing fan. I'm pretty sure the best UFC fighters probably make half of what the elite boxers make and obviously with the number of PPV sales from those two big boxing fights in 2009, its hard to say UFC has surpassed it when it doesn't get the same PPV sales and there's a reason the elite boxers make more than the elite UFC fighters, boxing is in it's down years and UFC is on the rise so I think just cause of that alone ppl think UFC is in some way ahead but you can't compare the numbers but like I said I don't mind UFC and I thin they're two completely different animals and maybe someday UFC could outsell the top boxing events but it hasn't happend yet |
Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
What I like about MMA is the fact that fighters need to evolve quickly or else risk losing very quickly- hardly anyone dominates their division anymore, besides guys like Anderson Silva, GSP and BJ Penn. It's really cool seeing different fighting styles merge into one complete package- and knowing that you have to be able to fight standing up and on your back in order to stay at the top.
On a side note, did anyone else think Shogun actually beat Machida in the last fight? Damn scorecards! |

Damn scorecards!
I'm not a huge MMA fan but I do like to watch the bigger MMA fights because it can be an exciting sport when they start brawling. Some of these MMA KO's are crazy but I just can't stand when they get on the floor and start "dry humping" I'm a boxer and there's some MMA fighters that train at my gym and the boxers and MMA fighters always talk shit to eachother (all in good fun, nothing disrespectful) but we all have fun. Sometimes we'll fight eachother and none of them can put up a fight when we box and I've fought some of them who are 30lbs above me. I can put up a decent fight when we do the MMA fighting until they get me on the ground :) so aside from the shit talking they respect us and I have a lot of respect for them cause I know it's a tough sport but I'll never enjoy watching grown men wrestling and dry humping on the ground that's just my opinion :) but other than the ground fighting I enjoy the rest of the sport |

Just wish she could get in the ring with that serial woman beater Mayweather. |

Jack Slack has really good articles on Fightland. One of the under-appreciated aspects of Holm's victory was her grappling defense. Rousey tried to get her to the ground two or three times and Holm stuffed the attempts (even reversed one of them). Firas Zahabi had a nice breakdown on how Holm kept her arm on the inside of the clinch and elbow tucked in instead of around Rousey's waist (which Ronda uses to toss most of her opponents). Holly also kept her hips lower than Rousey's, which prevents the judoka from sliding the hips under for the toss. If Holm doesn't defend the takedowns, it's a different fight. Ridiculous training camp by Jackson and Winkeljohn. |

As someone who trains in her former gym (joined after she left), I wholeheartedly agree. |
Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
Crazy. I like Rousey. She's a bitch and I like that.
Although, she's basically the female Mayweather and I hate him. Huh. Weird. |
Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
I sent Scott an email suggesting we cut Perry Riley and pick up Holly Holm......

you think Floyd could get up if he got on the ground? I think swinging standing up, advantage Floyd for sure. I don't see why it couldn't happen, Floyd is about as female of a man ive seen in awhile. Beside having zero character as a person. |
Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
Could she get him to the ground? We already saw how she does with someone with boxing skills.
|
Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
Didn't realize Holm was that good of a striker. She beat the crap out of Rousey. Just out boxed her and was clearly the more talented fighter. That kick to the head looked like it killed Rousey.

Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
Could she get him to the ground? We already saw how she does with someone with boxing skills.
I wouldn't think so... Floyd's defense is (in Tyson voice) impregnable. Rousey basically bull rushes her opponents in order to get the clinch... she eats punches while doing so. Floyd would clock her before she could grab hold to anything (pre-Holm, most of Ronda's opponents were done as soon as she clinched). The Slack article you linked mentioned the same things Floyd would use- angles and footwork. Ronda's relied on judo takedowns her entire career- the only way she'd be able to get Floyd on the ground is develop world class footwork and wrestling takedowns (namely singles and doubles... even then, she lacks the quickness to avoid a Floyd cross and the explosiveness to shoot in on a miss). At this stage of the game, there's no way she'd be able to catch up. |
Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
Anyone catch the passing of two torches Saturday night? Rockhold took advantage of a dumb wheel kick by Weidman. Rockhold was seriously gassed before that kick, due to the anti-biotics he'd been on to treat a staph infection. Conor is the real deal... Aldo is one of my favorite fighters of all time, but I saw the writing on the wall months ago. The Irishman got into his head the first time around (hence Aldo pulling out) and it showed this time- when Jose uncharacteristically started the first flailing from the bell. He didn't return his throwing hand back to defend his own face... ultimately dooming him to such an accurate striker as Conor. It'll be interesting to see if Conor moves up to 155. I don't know if he's ready for RDA, so he's got to hope Cowboy somehow wins this weekend.

Rickson has some great quotes. My favorites are: "Punch a black belt in the face and he goes back to a blue belt. Hit him with a one two and he goes back to white." And "The ground is my ocean and I an a shark and most people don't even know how to swim." |

Re: boxing/ UFC fans?
I will watch for the spectacle of it. McGregor gonna get his ass kicked, but it won't be a knockout cuz that's not Floyd's style. All the shit talking nonsense is obv trying to get the fight hyped, because when you consider the semantics of it it's clear McGregor doesn't stand a chance. How are you gonna take somebody who's never boxed before and make him fight one of the greatest fighters' of his generation? Same reason anybody does anything else, both of them are gonna get hella paid. The clip of McGregor talking about quadrupling his net worth just confirms it. I think there is substance to the rumors of them sharing a jet everywhere, and McGregor getting KO'd by his trainer. But it comes down to the fact that McGregor has never boxed before. It's just another obvious money grab. Only thing I'm torn on is will it go 12 rounds or not?
