thought this was an interesting site. not sure how they do their rankings, but every player, and every position are ranked. |
Re: are we over rating our players?
OMG I love this for how much it vindicates JC...look at how shitty the OL is for the Redskins and then look at JCs numbers, pretty solid
Wonder what he would do with a good O line? |

Yes!

+1 Yes most of our players we over-rate somewhat. Some of the others we over-rate drastically. A select few we probably under-rate. |

I think we under-rate Betts. He isn't great but too many think he is awful. Alexander and Caretr comes to mind. Mostly I think there are a few players under-used or misused. |
Re: are we over rating our players?
Cool site. Thank you for the link.
|
Re: are we over rating our players?
I disagree with that site, if anything we devalue our players especially us as fans because we don't know squat on talent.
|
Re: are we over rating our players?
can someone explain to me how the ranking works?
Like Phillip Rivers it said was a 65.0 And then Jason Campbell was a 12. something....does that mean he sucks?? |

Re: are we over rating our players?
no seriously...i really don't get what the numbers mean. I'm guessing the higher number, the better rating....i don't think it explains.

Re: are we over rating our players?
They've got Reed Doughty as their starting SS in the Pro Bowl

To answer your question, YES he sucks!

Re: are we over rating our players?
I like:
-That our two previous 7th rd picks are rated way ahead our our #6 overall pick in the safeties category-- can we please trade Landry's good for nothing me me me dumb ass? -That in terms of position with all QBs, Campbell really isn't a bottom feeder, but middle of the pack guy who plays behind the worst line. Extra evidence that QB isn't our problem. -Carter and Orakpo are in top 15 -Haynesworth's $100 million and his rep will surely outcompete what he does on the field, but he's in the top 5 NT/DT, and he was a huge reason why the Cowboys didn't convert those 3rd and 1, 4th and 1 plays. Go Big Al! |
Re: are we over rating our players?
Reed Doughty is the #1 rated safety against the run. He is easily our best tackling DB, and has progressed much more than Laron Landry, who is the most disappointing player on the entire roster IMO.

I have my agreements/disagreements with the site, but you hit it right that fans are not professional raters of football talent. We see things and some know more than others (I'm probably in the "knows less" category), but I think if you want to see how a team would look if fans ran it...the Redskins are pretty close to it. |

You and I might be the only 2 who think what you just wrote but I agree. |

Wonder what he would do with a good O line?
I have been screaming this all season. His numbers when given adequate time are pretty damn solid. For all those wanting to throw Jason away and start over are just not truly seeing his talent. The guy is big, strong, great arm, and is STILL LEARNING. Give JC a solid line and he produces. I think we saw that in games when he was able to stand there and deliver the ball. as far as over rating our players...absolutely. Moss is a #3 receiver, maybe a #2. Our Oline, except Samuels, is over rated at every position. Running back is definately over rated. Portis is done as far as I am concerned. |
Re: are we over rating our players?
Campbell holds onto the damn ball too long for much of the time and then the protection breaks down more often than not. Campbell still can't scan the entire field in the little time the average NFL QB has until the protection breaks down. Our line has really only sucked monkey balls for 2009. It wasn't so bad in '08 an was a tad better when Gibbs was here with basically the same starting personnel.

JC looked good for a 3 game stretch with that supposedly shitty line then regressed against the Gmen and totally went to shit against the Boys last weekend. Can't blame the line for everything. |
Re: are we over rating our players?
There are a few players who in many of the fans' minds are overrated. I think that we like to believe that many of the players can do the things that they did 3,4,5 years ago, but it just isn't the case anymore. Our O-line was good for a stretch, but injuries and age has caught them and it has really put our offense in a terrible bind! The defense has been good for a stretch, but we don't have the playmakers who get turnovers and make this defense from a very good defense to a great defense. We like to think that having Rogers, Smoot, Hall, Haynesworth, Carter et al. will win us games, but when it comes down to it they have given up plays.
On the offense, when we are supposed to be beating teams with bad rush defenses or bad pass defenses, we can never do it and we usually use the 05 and 07 seasons as barometers to do so. We need upgrades and this rebuiliding process isn't going to be like the Dolphins or Falcons where it will turn around in a year, we are going to have to have some significant time to turn around. It will take about 2-3 years possibly before we start seeing real results. That is of course if Dan doesn't hire a new coach before then. |
Re: are we over rating our players?
most people on here and most fans over rate our players. we've had this core group of guys for a while. jc, cooley, moss, are, rabach, samuels, portis, thomas, sellers, griff, carter, goldston, daniels, rogers, rocky, rock c. and so on. the bottom line is we've won one playoff game with this group and that's it. add in a 5 and 4 win season. it's time to blow it up and start over with the young guys.
