Cooley for Marshall?????
I know I know, I already brought it up in another thread. But how great would this trade be? Their TE Scheff is in the dog house as well as Marshall with MC Douche. I think they would jump at the chanced to grab Cooley for Marshall, allowing them to either trade their TE or cut him. Marshall would behave under shanny, we finnally get our Pro Bowl WR, while we Develop our 3rd yr guys who are showing alot of potential, Davis fills right in where cooley left. And we focus completly on our needs in the draft (OL!!!) Your thoughts?

Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
Gotta love Skins fans, some are sick of the splashy moves, some can't wait for the next one.
|
Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
That's a big time NFW.

Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
I'd really like to see what Shanahan would do with 2 pass catching TE's. Imagine Moss in the slot. Thomas and Kelly at #1 and #2, and Davis and Cooley going out for routes. Not to mention the availability for a RB to go out.
Plus we need OL, OL, OL. What I have read though is that (Rumor mill) Shanahan likes 1 pass catching TE and 1 blocking TE. Cooley and Davis are not blocking TE's so one might end up gone. Yoder is not that great as a blocking TE in my oppinion. I guess I could stomach losing Cooley if Shanahan felt he needed the WR. So long as they get their blocking TE. Again why not T.O. if you so hung up on a big WR? He's a FA. No trades. No draft picks. Plus Shanahan tried to get him while in Denver. |
Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
That trade makes no sense for the Broncos. If they trade Marshall it will be for picks.
|
Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
Hell no!!! Having 2 tight ends like Cooley and Davis on the field at the same time will be great. We have young receivers that are just starting to contribute and with a lot less attitude than Marshall

With Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly starting to show promise, the last thing that I would want for Cooley is a diva WR setting a poor example for Kelly, Thomas, and Marko Mitchell.

Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
Any talk of new WR's/TEs is just crazy. We need an oline, after that is addressed we need quality backups for the oline. After that is addressed, we need defensive back 7, and a qb for the future. Giving up depth at a critical position such as TE, just cuz we have 2 very good ones is crazy. Bringing in new WR's when ours have potentially untapped potential under a new coaching staff is just crazy.
Ah skins fans, craziness abounds! |
Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
Making a move like this would just stink of the same old, same old in Washington.
I'm hoping the big splashy moves will be a thing of the past now and our main focus will be on building through the draft. |

Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
Thats a really bad idea. The last thing we need this offseason is trading one of the best tight ends in the league for a reciever. That is the least of our concerns this offseason.

For example: The AH signing would have been absolutely perfect if it really was the final piece of the pie. Instead it was a continuation of the complete delusion that our FO has seemed to be in for the better part of the decade that our team was any better than average talent-wise. |

apparently this "oline" thing helps keep your qb upright and gives your running back holes to run through. Sort of like an engine in a car, it makes things work, but who needs that..... |
Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
When Cooley was allegedly offered to the Broncos last year they didn't want him. Not sure why they would want him now. Trade doesn't make sense for either side.
|
Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
No way.
If we can really utilize Cooley and Davis, who can stop 2 Pro Bowl-caliber TEs? We have some good WRs anyways. If we lose ARE and play Marko, it's a solid core of 4 WRs, 3 of them very young. |

Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
I'm not against this trade. I think we may be able to get a pick out of the Marshall trade. If a 3rd gets packaged in, I'd be happy. Gives us a real WR for the first time in a long time and maybe another OL with the 3rd. Won't cry if it doesnt happen since I love Cooley.

We could even put Cooley or Davis in the slot or spread out as a WR to be covered by a LB or safety in CB-territory. Better Davis than Cooley so Chris can block. When either of them are in the open field, they run over defenders or in Fred's case, hurdles over them. They get the tough yardage and turn stops into first downs. |

Long ago, in days forgotten, a tale was told, one of qb's standing upright, and rb's passing the scrimmage line before the evil hordes could beset them. These tales told of mythical beasts, called Hogs, that kept the beasts of lb's and dt's from thrusting beyond that point of scrimmage. Victory's were many and knightly tales are told to this day of the mythical oline beasts named Hogs. |

sounds amazing! How can we get one of these mystical "olines"? |

Rumors abound, but one has heard of a place called "the draft". Many winds swirl in and around this mystical place, where warriors are found and picked. From these warriors, it is said, one may find a true Hog, if you are wise in your selection. Careful though for there are many seers that say to seek the qb, or relinquish your rights to search in this "draft" for the fast and sleek of the WR animals. These Hogs are difficult beasts to train, but once found the legend assures that they will bring victory and peace to the land for many many years |

Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
Fred Davis has had basically, 3/4 of a good season...let's see what he has to offer for at least another season before we start calling him a pro bowler

We've already started the process. In an abbreviated summary, you trade a "Vinny" for an "oline". |

I said "potential" Pro Bowler. Have you watched him after catching a pass? He refuses to go down. He has some cleanup to do on his game, like eliminating penalties and mistakes, but his future looks incredibly bright. He's like Antonio Gates, Jr. |
Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
Guys, O-line isn't the only thing we need to address in the offseason. We don't have enough play makers on offense. Even if we had an all pro offensive line, Kelly and Thomas aren't the answer. Both have a whopping 25 receptions this year. So yes, I would be all for getting more playmakers on offense. Trade Cooley for Marshall.

Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
How do we really know what we have with our WRs when we mostly ran quick/short routes?
|
Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
To the question of the thread, NO!
If we trade Cooley, it makes no sense to swap him for a WR, especially one with known attitude problems. Given that Shanahan and Marshall had a falling out in Denver, I can't see Shanny doing it, anyway. |
Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
How do we really know what we have with our WRs when we mostly ran quick/short routes?
Exactly. I was watching a little of Redskins Kickoff on CSN yesterday before the game and I thought I spotted a Warpath member on the texts they scroll at the bottom of the screen. It said "Enough of the checkdowns, Campbell, throw it deep!" I thought to myself "hey genius, how do you go deep without time for the WRs to get down the field!?!?!?" Those comments are always retarded. |
Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
Just heard Mortensen on ESPN say that Shanny tried to trade B.M before he left Denver. T.O will land here before B.M.

Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
I said this before but only thing I'll accept right now for Chris Cooley is a 3 way trade with the Chargers that brings us Marcus McNeil.
Chargers get: Team X 2nd Round Pick Redskins get: Marcus McNeil Team X gets: Chris Cooley. Other then that I would feel more content trying to move Fred Davis. |

The reason teams do anything like that, money. They're hesitant about paying him as a top teir left tackle. |
Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
^Yes, it could be done for money reasons. San Diego has let good players go before simply because they did not want to pay a premium price tag.
But the scenario would also work if it were a 1st round pick, or a 2nd plus a 5th, or whatever. |
Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
amazing a trade cooley thread and 90% of the posts say keep him, glad to see it's not 50/50 anymore and people are coming around to the idea of having two kick ass te's next year, that will be the biggest threat our o has imo
|
Re: Cooley for Marshall?????
If we trade Cooley it should be for a position of greater need than WR. I'd hate to see Cooley go but if it went to a guy that could help shore up our line or something I could understand it.

I seem to recall the huge buzz of 2 TE sets before this year too... |

Yes , and we hired a new coach 29 years ago that had " some " success in the 80's running a two TE set .......... |
