Here is our review in case you missed it. |
Re: Bruce Allen presser
One of the questions I didn't hear was whether or not the interview process has been concluded?
Why would it take so long to get the new guy in? Why wasn't Shanahan next to him at the podium? |
Re: Bruce Allen presser
Hopefully by the end of the day today, Shanahan is on the payroll
|
Re: Bruce Allen presser
Did he say anything about Campbell at all?

Something like... he's had 51 starts, hasn't played his best ball yet, that's ahead of him. |
Re: Bruce Allen presser
He said he thought Campbell's best days were ahead of him.
What struck me about the presser was when he was asked if we would rebuild he said no, that we would reload. That scares me. |

Rebuild says it is going to be years before we are good again, reload says we are almost there hold on. The skins still need to sell tickets in the rebuild/reload years so it is just a play on words to keep folks drooling. |
Re: Bruce Allen presser
Glad to see Snyder wasn't there.

lol......he went skiing. |
Re: Bruce Allen presser
I don't think this team will be gutted like some are hoping for. I think most of the vets who make too much money will be dropped. The "offensive" line is the only thing in need of true rebuilding. A new RB is most likely required as well.
This team has quite a bit of young talent, that is close to turning the corner. |

However the marketing department needs to realize that to fans, lay person, and general public Rebuild means "fresh start" in hopes of building a team oriented organization, Reload means SSDD. We've been "Reloading" for 10 yrs now. |

Redskins One was reportedly in Colorado today if that makes you happy.
Yes, I didn't word that correctly. It just seems like if Shanahan's the guy, why wait until this press conference on Thursday? Is it to satisfy the Rooney Rule? I've heard something along the lines of having to interview Jerry Gray again -- if that's what it takes to dot all the I's and cross all the T's, fine. But simply from a PR standpoint, it would seem like a stronger statement to the fans that your guy is already in place. |

Re: Bruce Allen presser
I actually got a call from the Marketing dept. on New Years Eve feeling me out as to whether or not I was going to re-up my season tix next year.
They were very sympathetic as to the teams fortune (i.e. they were sales people saying whatever I wanted to hear). Told them that the decision to re-up would depend on (a) what the skins did in the immediate offseason and if they could move me down in the same section for the same price. I have never gotten a call like that from them before. |

Well said. |
Re: Bruce Allen presser
Reload/rebuild, whatever you call it, I think BA's point was we have enough talent where you don't have to blow it all up and start over. Get some key pieces in here, lead them with a quality staff, and things will improve.

Re: Bruce Allen presser
You can't rebuild a roster in one off season. Some of these bums will be back next year.

To the casual fan they want to hear reload not rebuild. We on this board are not casual fans. Casual fans out number us by a ton, so they are going to play to the casual fan. |

Normally, I would agree with you, but in this case, I have my doubts about that. Given that 2010 may be the only uncapped year, it represents a unique time for teams to get rid of all its "excess baggage." For example, Portis may still be servicable now, but will he be in 2011? If not, then why keep him and take a steep cap hit to cut him in 2011 when we can cut him "pain-free" now? I'm personally hoping/expecting for a purge. |

i wasnt thinking of us signing a bunch of free agents. i was speaking of us purging our own roster of under-performing, big contract players and replacing them with younger, "no-name" guys who may have less to offer now but more upside. i would think a lot of NFL teams would use the capless season to get rid of players whose contracts don't match what they bring to the field. |

thats been the same saying for a decade now, and it isn't true, yeah we could get a couple guys maybe make a wild card next year, but i would like to see the team take a different approach and say you know what we might only win 6 games next year but we are building a solid foundation right now which we can lean on in the future without it crumbling out from underneath us. imo you can't address all the positions of need in one offseason, not when your biggest need is oline. because next year would be a horrific year for a rookie qb to learn a new system and a terrible year to waste mileage on a young back. this year they should start getting peices in place and then maybe in the next three years we will have a solid playoff team that will be contenters year in and year out. me persopnally i don't think we are one or two guys or even 5 guys (that sounds good right now) away from being a contenter, and i would like to see them take a different approach this year rather than trying to fix everything in one offseason which has never worked for us in the past |
Re: Bruce Allen presser
mImdub, how are you and mImpetert feeling so far with the comments and positions Snyder and Allen are making. I am just curious if this is the type of change/actions you wanted to see, or are you still closer to the DS needs to sell the team thought.

guess you missed the article :) D.C. Sports Bog - Skins fans reflect on Cerrato's ouster But still, I'm telling you, people want to hope. So I went to find Chris Mitchell before kickoff. He's the lifelong Redskins fan who flipped the Skins flag on his pickup upside down after the loss to the Panthers, the universal sign for distress. He also helped raise $1,500 to pay for a portable "Fire Vinny" sign that rode around D.C. Monday, before going to FedEx, Mitchell flipped the flag back over. "I mean, mainly because Vinny's gone," he said. "They're finally shaking [stuff] up. It's just good to see new [stuff]. Bruce Allen might not be the best choice, but he's a proven winner. If he can win in Oakland with Al Davis, there's a chance he can win here with Snyder. It's still ridiculous, but at least Snyder's getting the message now. The franchise is still in distress, it's not fixed yet, but they know they have to do something. They've gotten the message." That had me feeling at least a bit cheerful. Well, a few hours later, I got an e-mail from Chris. He had left the stadium when the Giants went up 24-0. It was the first time in his six years as a season ticket holder he had left a game early. "Guess I jumped the gun on flipping the flag back over," he wrote. "Hopefully the front-office changes will show next year, but tonight was flat-out the worst game I have ever seen the Redskins play." thats basically how i feel, i liked that snyder also admitted wrong doing in a statement he made this morning, i know he will never sell the team i just wants him hands off, and btw my website idea was donewithdan.com it's in my sig we actually bought the rights to it as well, but i got out voted |

The delay is probably due to just a few last minute hashing out of contract details I would guess.
b mitch says the skins are not gonna introduce shanny as head coach until after coach buges retires(which is supposed to be tomarrow). the skins would rather buges retire rather than it looking like he was fired by shanny. |
Re: Bruce Allen presser
that makes sense, let buges go out on his own.

that's exactly what he was saying. he wants to re load, not rebuild. he even mentioned that JC's best days are ahead of him which leads me to believe that he and the new coach are going to tinker with the roster and try and re load. shanahan isn't coming here for a rebuilding project. |

What I got out of his press conference is that he believes this team has talent. I know for damn sure he doesn't believe that this team doesn't have any glaring holes. A blind man can see that it does. He's going to have to start rebuilding this team if he wants to win.

Re: Bruce Allen presser
As I brought up in another post about the "we are almost there" marketing thing we fall for each year, BA is just feeding right into that whole idea. I"m not saying he couldn't say this team sucks, because obviously that's not GM speak, but I for one am not going to think that this pitiful team is a "reload" team.
I remember a sports analyst saying that Gibbs had 4 years to go to the superbowl, because afterward, all the contracts and players would be old and have cap troubles. Maybe they were right. |

Maybe they were right.
That is why you don't build a team through free agency. They are more expensive and just unpredicable as rookies. Plus it seems like whe you build your team through free agency they can get old overnight. A few years ago our offensive line was the strongest unit on our team. Now they are the weakest unit on our team. That is why the draft is so important. You can build quailty depth at a cheap price. |
Re: Bruce Allen presser
This guy is just a politician. He knows how to work people. I love how he perks up his eyebrows when making a point.
I dont think we will ever get much substance outta him in pressers. THat doesnt mean he will do bad job. Im just saying, I can understand how his brother is George. |
Re: Bruce Allen presser
Kinda reminds me of Alec Baldwin.
