F...Left Lane Drivers

OK, we've had numerous generic threads about shitty drivers, but these assholes have recently become the bane of my existence.

They ABSOLUTELY cause every single clusterfuck on the road. I don't care if you are passing or you aren't. If there's no one in the right lane, GET OVER. Basically what happens is that some people who want to pass you will try on the right side and get on the ass of a person who rightfully can go slow on the right side and then cut off people in each lane.

Seriously, I think they are one of the biggest problems with traffic backup today. I live just off a decent interstate where you can drive fifty-five. Without fail EVERY MORNING some asshole has a line of about three people following each other in the left lane and typically room to go around in the right. There always seems to be someone driving as they should in the right, but going slower which is fine because the right lane is for that. So I'm going INSANE behind these people wishing they would get over, but nope. Instead, they just don't give a crap or are ignorant to what's going on around them and we end up getting backed up by about 20-30 cars.

Seriously, WTF?!?!?!?!?

I'm with you on this one. My rule is that if two or more cars are right behind you on the left lane, you're driving too slow and need to get the f out.

Re: F...Left Lane Drivers

I'll admit that I probably drive in the left lane more than I should, but if I'm in it and I see someone coming up fast behind me I'll get over as soon as I can. Likewise, if there aren't many other people on the road I'll do my best to stay out of the passing lane unless I'm doing just that.

Just yesterday I was driving home on I-95 just south of Baltimore and I'm cruising in the left lane going a little bit fast than the people on the right (I was probably going about 70 in a 65mph zone). There was a car about 100 yards ahead of me in the lane to my right going around 60, no one was in front of him and he wasn't be tailgated or anything like that but he suddenly decided to move to the left lane for no apparent reason. I had to hit the breaks pretty hard to avoid slamming into him.

If someone is driving in the left lane and they're going the speed limit and/or there are cars in front of them so they have no where to go I usually don't get too annoyed. But when they're in the left just putzing along I get pissed. I don't really think I'm an aggressive driver but sometimes I wish I had a cow-catcher or plow or something on the front of my car so that I could move this a-holes over.

I try not to let anything bother me too much but this is one thing that I will launch a profanity laced tirade directed at left lane drivers. TMC, you're familiar with Roanoke. As you're heading down I-81, you need to to take the left lane exit (#143) onto I-581 towards Roanoke. We have these f-ing clowns that drive in the left lane at 59 mph from the 150 exit at Cloverdale where I get on. Then you have Tailgater Ted that thinks if he rides my ass way back here as the 5th or 6th car, the slow left lane driver will drive faster or get over. AAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

AGREED.

I get serious road rage over bad drivers.

Send them up here to Montreal, the roads are crazy and we have plenty of maniacs to handle them.

A few days with people screaming at them in french combined with a million huge potholes and a back-ass highway/roadway system... not to mention the weather - they'll be running back to DC on their best behavior.

Re: F...Left Lane Drivers

It just seems no matter how fast you go in the left lane, there's always someone on your ass.

I recently gave up on the left lane. I've made an effort to keep my speed 70 or under, I was just curious to see how it would impact my MPG. I've seen an increase of nearly 3 MPG by driving 70 rather than 75 or 80. It's also less stressful to just hang in the middle lane.

That is maybe my least favorite part of 81. I CANNOT stand that area. If it isn't idiots driving too slow, it's people who are like, "OH NO! I should have been in the left lane!" and they end up cutting almost everyone off.

Honestly, my road rage for these type of people has gotten to the insane point lately. It goes against all my morals and values but I followed one of these idiots into a gas station (getting gas, not just following) and I was closer than I've ever been to walking up to them and being like, "Seriously, let me give you an f-ing driving lession douchebag."

Now, I'm not a perfect driver by any means, but I think some people are so nonchalant about driving, they don't get in the right line unless they have a reason to, otherwise, they're like, "Why exert any more energy than I have to to move my steering wheel?"

What these people are is oblivious. They live in their little donkey-dick worlds where consideration for others around them is not important. It sounds so wrong but if someone is driving the speed limit in the left lane and backing up traffic I literally want to pull up next to them and bump them off the road. I know they're following the law and it's pretty unhealthy to think that way but their complete lack of attention to what is happening or complete lack of consideration about it is infuriating.

My wife says the same thing.

And your overall opinion is EXACTLY how I feel. I hate that something like this bothers me so much, but this behavior alone I think is the reason for a lot of road rage on the road. Say I'm just chilling in the right lane going 72ish like I do in a 65 and some jackass who is just driving in the left lane is barely passing me at 73, all these people want to get in the right lane and get on my ass. And THEY they get pissed at ME for not going faster so they can pass the person the left!!

Man I never really knew how bad I was ticking people off and boy it feels great. Whats really fun is when your in the left lane and you have a car to your right and then a car tail gating you. Slow down a little so the car on the right starts to pass you then watch the guy behind you jump over into their lane. Just as the car tail gating you starts to pass thinking he can get past you speed up some. Now you start passing the car on the right and the tail gater jumps back behind you. You get just far enough infront of the car to your right so the car tailgating just cannot pass then you start to slow down again. Do this over and over again and see how many times the tailgater will go back and forth or just give up.

Re: F...Left Lane Drivers

As a younger driver on here I feel my pov might differ from everybody else. I like to consider myself a weaver, I'm always looking for that open stretch to get around a slow person. I do find myself tailgating on occasion, but that's more due to paying attention to my mirrors for slightly too long to notice i'm creeping up on someone.

For everyone who lives in NOVA and knows how horrible the rush hour traffic is that I sit in Mon-Fri when I'm going to work at 5-7 am and going home after 4 pm, well it's safe to say I never get the opportunity to go 70 mph at any time. It's gotten better in the mornings because I go up 95 from Woodbridge to my job in Springfield, and they just recently opened that 4th lane that's helped ease the congestion somewhat, but I still manage to find myself behind all the slow drivers all the time. I'm sure it doesn't help that I love to speed, that I love to weave, and love letting people know what I think of them slowing everybody down in the left hand lane.

Now I've been commuting like this since mid-June, and I find that the middle lane is the best lane to be in for various reasons, especially on the way home. Mainly because the left hand lane is always choked up with drivers that somehow think that it's the fast lane, even though half the time it's completely stopped while the two right hand lanes are just cruisin by at like 20 mph. And I can understand drivers going slow in the right hand lane because that's where they're supposed to be at. So I don't get mad at those drivers but I do get mad at the drivers who feel like they're somehow doing the right thing by slowing everybody down in the middle or left hand lane.

So yes I could understand that my pov is different from everybody else's, and fyi I've been that driver before firstdown, you know the one trying to get around all the slow drivers but you just can't for reasons mentioned above, but it is what it is. I figure with age and circumstances changing, like having a kid or wife/family in the car, I will become a more peaceful driver, but until then, it is what it is. In my perfect scenario I wish all the drivers who go slow just to be safe would drive only in the right hand lane, and the middle lane would be for the drivers who don't want to go slow but don't want to go fast either, and all us speedaholics could just drive as fast as we wanted in the left hand lane.

But I do consider myself a somewhat responsible driver. I never, ever, get into a different lane without checking my mirrors and blindspots and using turn signals as well to let people know my intentions. I may be weaving, but I'm also considerate of everybody else trying to do their thing, meaning I don't try to cut into a different lane if there isn't adequate space to do it.

So basically I have my bad tendencies but I also have some good tendencies. That's better than some drivers I've encountered in the traffic hellhole known as the DMV.

Don't drive 55 in the damn left lane .... LOL !! I also hate the " sleepwalkers " who get all the way over in the left lane , so they can enjoy the open air at a snails pace. If you want to move slow , stay in the freakin right lane or keep your rear parked on your couch .

Do you just constantly cruise in the left lane? Do you get over after you've passed someone provided the person behind you is keeping a safe distance? If so, that's all good. As long as someone is passing, I'm A-OK. Most of the left lane drivers are so unaware of their surroundings they aren't even using cruise control and just fluctuate speed kind of like you're describing above, but not consciously. I think THAT'S what drives us all nuts.

Now, if you do that behavior on purpose, that's a real dick thing to do. I totally understand though if someone is tailgating you. I hate tailgaters myself.

Basically, my driving patterns are I go about 5-7 miles over the speed limit, I use signals every time, I never tailgate and I immediately get into the right lane after I've passed someone.

Re: F...Left Lane Drivers

Well as I've noted in other threads (LOL, here we go!) I will purposely block the left lane if I notice someone behind me driving too fast or otherwise unsafely.

I think my blocking the left lane makes the road a safer place overall, even though it pisses people off like the dickens.

10 miles over the speed limit is plenty fast enough. If you need to go faster than that, take an airplane.

Blocking is pretty cool in NASCAR .... if you aren't rubbing bumpers ... it isn't racing . I actually wish we could use the bumper on knuckleheads driving below the speed limit in the left lane .... I would drive more often . I agree with you Schneed , nobody should be driving over 80 mph when others are using our highways .

Schneed -- I want to strangle you.

TMC, I agree completely. My favorite is the rolling roadblock. You get 3 people all going 45 MPH which screws up traffic royally. I was on 95S today (65MPH Speed limit for those who don't know) going 40 from Arlington most of the way to Hoodbridge. About 5 miles before Woodbridge I figured out the issue. Three cars going 45 all next to each other. I really started to understand suicide bombing at that time. If I didn't have a passenger I may have screamed ALLAH and taken out all 3 with my car in a fiery ball of victory.

No I don't. I cruise in the middle lane about 5-10 mph over the speed limit. But if I see someone on the road driving too fast or like an asshole in general, I go into road vigilante mode and do everything in my power to slow the guy down and frustrate him so bad that his whole day is ruined.

"Everyone driving slower than me is driving like a granny, and everyone going faster than me needs to slow their maniac self down!" ...or however the saying goes.

I prefer driving at night (generally 10PM-6AM depending on where I'm headed). You generally have two types of vehicles on the road; 1) tractor trailers who prefer to stay out of your way, and 2) people who are focused on getting from point A to point B as fast as possible. There are no old people, soccer moms, or Schneeds in your way. :)

Lane changes aren't the best way to block. If a guy's right on your bumper, and he switches lanes to pass, he's pretty much already around you and it's a done deal.

I'll use the other slower cars in lanes to my right, match their speed to block. If they change their speed, I change to match.

This is a total rehash of the other thread which is pointless, but it's still funny. Like will I block someone going 65 in a 55? No. Will I block a huge line of cars who want to go with the flow of traffic in the left lane going 75 in a 65? No. But I'll block that one standout person who's driving more aggressively or much faster than the rest of the crowd on the roadway. It's not the same thing as a grandpa cruising the left lane at 45 with his blinker on. It's a conscious decision to make what I feel is a positive impact on the roadway.

Now to avoid a bunch of flaming posts coming my way, let me preemptively say this:

- I don't care what you think about it.
- I don't care what you think cops would say about it.
- I feel much safer on the road doing this than I do letting some maniac weave in an out of lanes up ahead of me.

We should change this thread title to Everyone Hates Schneed, because if you didn't already hate me coming in you sure as hell will coming out!

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII see now. THAT's what I remember. And a driving plan I can get behind. :biggthump

If the cops were to observe your stupid ass playing some BS, childish games as you have described in traffic, their message to you will be of the.......legal variety. The ONLY service you are performing for anyone is to your own self satisfaction in......some ......wierd way.
BTW............not a hater
