Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
ESPN reporting that Jim Mora has been fired as head coach of Seattle.
Seattle Seahawks fire Jim Mora after one season, source says - ESPN Can't say I saw that one coming. With the rumors of Paul Allen's failing health and a shaky front office, who's going to end up there? I think we can rule out Cowher, too far away from his family. |
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
Wow!! I didn't see that especially after Holmgren didn't go there. Maybe Zorn is headed back to Seattle!

I would be really happy for him if that were to happen, whether it's as qb coach, coordinator or waterboy supervisor. That's where he belongs & has a good history. |
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
I figured he'd be fired if Holmgren took over there, but then I guess makes sense no matter who the new President/GM is there
Billick? Probably not Fassel? Possible Cowher? Doubt it A Floyd Reese/Mike Heimerdinger combo wouldn't surprise me I think Raye and DeCosta are also finalists for the GM position. |
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
They said a few weeks ago that Mora would be back for another season so this was a huge surprise...
|
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
In professional sports no one has any patience. It's win now or you're fired. Jim Mora's team underachieved. But one year? That's just wrong.
|
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
I feel sorry for Mora. He so wanted to return to Washington state and be a success. Now, after one year as the head guy, he's back to plan B.
|
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
I once heard that they decided they didn't want to give him the job, but it was too late he was already waiting in the wings after Holmgren.
|
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
lol I doubt Zorn is gonna get their head coaching position.
|
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
Mora was screwed either way. He comes to Washington he has Vinny assembling a playoff roster, he goes to Seattle and gets fired after one year. Ironically though he might be a candidate to be this teams Defensive Coordinator.

Seahawks fire Mora, plan to interview Frazier
Posted: January 8th, 2010 | Steve Wyche | Tags: Jim Mora, Leslie Frazier, Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks The Seattle Seahawks have fired coach Jim Mora and have already arranged to interview Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, according to sources with knowledge of the developments. Mora, who inherited a 4-12 team, spent just one season as coach after being promoted as a defensive assistant in 2009. Seattle was decimated by injuries and inconsistency and finished 5-11. It was Mora’s second head coaching job, having led the Atlanta Falcons to a 26-22 record from 2004-2006. Frazier, meanwhile, has been contacted by and will interview with the Seahawks in the near future. Frazier recently interviewed for the Buffalo Bills’ head coaching vacancy. |
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
DeCosta is another very strong candidate to end up there
|
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
I always liked Mora, his football philosophys always seemed sound. Going in I think Seattle was a team that needed a decent amount of work/rebuilding, doesn't seem quite fair to him.

wouldnt it be a lateral move to come here, though? I'd Love Bruce Allen as Team President, Eric DeCosta as GM, and Morocco Brown as Director of Player Personnel. |

Yep.. looks like that's who they want. |
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
Jeez even Zorn got 2 seasons.

Really? Is that what they're saying? I just know Carroll has been a rumored candidate to return to the NFL this year. I've been thinking Dallas but Seattle makes sense |

I've been thinking Dallas but Seattle makes sense
That's what the guys on ESPN just reported.. don't know how long they'd been talking about it, I was taking a nap. It was reported that they had mutual interest in each other and that Seattle wanted to bring in Carrol as well as Bates I believe |

Oh. I'm watching Golden Girls (what?)...didn't realize that |

Carrol is reportedly trying to talk Bates into joining him. |
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
Shouldn't have been hired as Head Coach in the first place. It's not surprising they fired he because it was going to happen sooner or later. It is surprising that they had the guts to fire him after one year.

Wonder what the Bears will do if that happens. I thought they really wanted him |
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
On a side note...anyone think Nick Saban will have his players practicing how to dump Gatorade next season?

It's not a sure thing but apparently Carroll is interested enough to try to get Bates to go with him. |
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
Why would Pete Carroll leave USC to come back to the grind of the NFL? Just doesn't make sense to me.

Coaches have pride and egos.. this is why you'll see a coach leave a successful program and then come back with a project team |

He's been wanting to try to prove himself at the NFL again |
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
What else does Carrol have to prove in college? Might as well take the big payday and try to prove himself on the next level. If the Seahawks are able to bring in Carrol then canning Mora was a no-brainer.

Third time's the charm?

Yeah, no joke. And it was amazing how humorless Saban was about the whole experience. |

Especially when there's more than enough reasons why he underachieved that had absolutely nothing to do with his coaching. His team was beset with almost as many injuries as we had. You know what they say NFL stands for. |

CARROL? How can anyone be surprised that he will consider leaving USC? Read the writing on the wall: If he stays, he essentially gets executed by brewing NCAA investigations into illegal recruitment and player misconduct going back 6-8 years. Let's go ahead and call a spade a spade like Bob Knight did about John Calipari. Carrol's going to skip town out of LA because it won't be for long that the last 5 years of wins and championships will be stripped from USC. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH "nothing else to prove at the college level" |

You'd think that grumpy bastard would crack a smile after the whole thing. I mean you just won the national title! Playing for him must really suck. |

To me they're the same guy. Mora should go and coach college. |
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
I can't figure out what the NFL sees in Pete Carroll. He was an average to below average coach in the NFL. Now just because he did a great job recruiting in college he is coaching royalty. Will he petition Goodell to allow him 10 1st round draft picks each year? I just don't see it with him. I am okay with him getting another opportunity but the way teams like court him every offseason makes no sense to me.
|
re: Mora out in Seattle, Pete Carroll in
Mortensen is now saying it would be a surprise if Carrol wasn't Seattles next coach and Leslie Frazier has turned down an interview because he doesn't think he'd get a legitimate shot. He thinks it would be to just satisfy the Rooney Rule.

I was surprised to learn that he was 33-31 as a head coach in the NFL. In fact he was 27-21 as the Patriots head coach. Fired after going 8-8 in his third year and replaced by Belicheck. |
