I don't have that confirmed by the way, but I'm pretty confident it's true

Sucks to see Buges go but he's had a heck of a ride.

Wonder what he'll do now. I don't see him and retirement going well together.

There goes a part of history. I would have loved to have spent some time with this man. I could listen to him talk and tell stories forever.

He's been one of the very best! How bout them HOGS!

Wish him a great life after a long and successful football career.

Happy trails, Boss Hog.

Now more than ever, we REALLY need some top tier talent along the line. Alex Gibbs is going to Seattle, Rick Dennison is going to Houston, and Buges is retiring. We're going to have a drop-off at the offensive line coach position.

So if you think these backup bums sucked this year, wait till next year if we don't get new personnel. If it weren't for Bugel, Jason Campbell would probably be dead.

Somebody mentioned Ray Brown, why not bring him in, he's a disciple of Bugel and did a good job in Buffalo.

From Ross Tucker via Twitter:

I had 9 OL coaches in the NFL and I subscribe more to Joe Bugel's philosophy than any of the others. A legend is retiring today.

I'm not so sure about a drop off at O line coaching. I think Bugel was part of the problem telling the front office that he was good with what he had and did not push them to draft O line. I think he probably said something like this "we are Ok with the O line if we can just pick up a guy or two" and he thought he could then coach them up. While he could coach them up its not like it was back in the 80's.

Re: Bugel Will Officially Retire Today

We'll never know if Buges read the talent level wrong or if Vinny simply did not give him the help he needed. I would lean more towards blaming Vinny and the front office. Though with a move like letting Bridges go, you have to place more blame with Buges for that.

I said it when it happened and continue to say it, the Bridges move was not good.

But over the years Buges brought intensity and quality training to our OL. He deserves a happy retirement. Best of luck to ya, Boss Hog.

Got a standing ovation. Heaped a lot of praise on Snyder

People forget that Bugel was the line coach for the Oilers when Earl Campbell was tearing up the league

Just finished watching his PC. Buges has been an institution within one for a long time.

Bless you Buges, and hope you have as much success with the rest of your life as you had coaching the offensive lines of the Washington Redskins.

God bless you, and good luck!!

Pretty awesome stuff. He said "I don't want to get emotional," and then slapped his knee and said "stop shaking!" LOL!

He's a true Redskin for sure. I'll miss him.

Two years ago at training camp when everyone was thinking we had O line issues I heard Buges talking like we had the best O line in the NFL. It was then I wondered if he was either blind or really thought that our O Line was in great shape as he stated. I believe he said that our O Line would be a strength of the team. I think what he has done for the skins was great but I think his time had come.

I have been listening to "Bugle speak" (as I refer to it) for a long time. He has never had anything but high praise for all the linemen he's coached through the years, even when we know some of them did no warrant it. It's the character make-up of the man as we got to know him. I have yet to hear him make a derogatory or disparaging remark about any of his guys.

I agree it was probably time for him to move on no one recognized that fact more than he did.....Everyone's time must come sooner or later.

Buges would run through walls for his guys, and vice versa. Talent aside he would never talk down on his guys.

Now if you missed a block or any assignment during a game, he may have some not so nice things to say to you when you come to the sideline, but publicly he was going to praise you to high heaven.

Yeah man, I was there and heard him say that too.

It's hard to say though after moves like Bridges.. was that Bugel's decision.. was Bridges just not fitting in.. or what?

Then the whole Montgomery starting over Rhino.. maybe it was his time, but he's brought us way more good than he could've ever harmed us.

Anyone notice that Snyder has started to loose some weight. Maybe not micromanaging the team has given Snyder more time to take up other activities, like working out. He also seems a lot happier these days. Everytime I've seen pictures of him lately he's been smiling, a stark contrast to the stern look on his face he had when he introduced coaches not named Joe Gibbs.

Still blows my mind when I see lineman like Tony Boselli and Mark May during their playing days then see what they look like today.
