Karlos Dansby anyone???? Interesting find...
Yea, yea I know it is coming from Florio, but it is very intresting. In a nut shell it states that since Dansby was franchise tagged twice, he would not be a RFA like most of the other "would have been's " expecting that big payday until the no CBA hit em. He states it would be a bidding war between us and Seattle???? oh yeah like they need a LB. I see another Hayensworth type deal on the eve of free agency. Which would be great, the dude is a beast! Your thoughts? If there is one "unit" on a 4-12 Redskins' team that can be called "solid" linebacking would be that unit. Spending big bucks on a linebacker this year - - remember, a cap will be coming in future years if not in 2010 - - would not be a good strategic move.

Dansby is good. I'd pass...
Say what? The linebacking unit is a huge problem area. There is no depth. Orakpo is not a linebacker, Wilson is not a linebacker Fletcher is old as dirt and McIntosh is straight up mediocre. Blades is a career backup on a bad team. I don't want an expensive free agent unless they play oline, but our linebacking corps is a mess. |
re: Karlos Dansby anyone???? Interesting find...
If we are serious about switching to a 3-4, we will need to stock up on guys who can play 3-4 inside linebacker...like Dansby.
|
re: Karlos Dansby anyone???? Interesting find...
Dansby can be a solid FA acquisition and one of the few good/relatively young players that are not going to be RFAs with the uncapped year rules. I would say it will all depend on how much $$ he wants.

London is old (but still awesome), Rocky is up and down and has degenerative knee issues, HB Blades is alright but will never be a stud, and like you said, Orakpo is not a natural LB by any stretch. Outside of those guys, we've got squat. LB, OL, and RB all need to be very big priorities this offseason. |

I'd also like to point out the irony that London has seemingly outlasted Antonio Pierce. London's just as old as Ray Lewis, and more durable, so I think it's safe to say that we may have him for 2 or 3 more years. |
re: Karlos Dansby anyone???? Interesting find...
So how 'bout this...
Rocky OLB, Fletch ILB, Dansby ILB, Orakpo OLB Although...would Rocky be a good OLB in the 3-4? If not who else? Carter? I know he didn't like that much when he was in SF. |

He wasn't very good at all as an OLB in SF. He had a monster year this season in a 4-3. I think a switch to a 3-4 would squander his talents significantly. Also, what would we do with Haynesworth? NT or DE? I can't imagine he'd be nearly as valuable in 3-4 as a 4-3. I think of the square peg-round hole analogy a lot of people used with Zorn and the offense the past few years. Seems like we'd be repeating that if we tried to use the 3-4 as our base next year. I'm fine with some 3-4 and 4-4 looks, but 4-3 really should be our base. |

As for the NT, ideally I would try to get Casey Hampton...dream scenario would be snatching Wilfork from Darth Hoody. If not, then bring Aubrayo Franklin from the 49ers. I don't think we can just put anyone at NT, we definitely need to address this position through free agency, before we can groom our own NT. |

Dansby is good. I'd pass...
this whole post is a joke, but this is the biggest fallacy. once the cap goes away, it ain't coming back. you see something you like, buy it. its that simple |

If the LB corps. is a mess what does that say for the OL?

I really hope that isnt the case...im for a cap. Lil' Danny gonna be thinking he George Steinbrenner. In regards to Dansby, he is worth a look and mos def a stud, but not worth 7 mil per year contract IMO...take that money and put into younger studs on the Oline (Evans or McNeil) |
re: Karlos Dansby anyone???? Interesting find...
Dansby would be a nice addition to our to, like somebody said already in this post repy orakpo is not a LB and fletcher is very old but still pretty good and mac is only ok

This is the thing about free agency that people are not realizing...I am not 100% sure about Evans, but McNeil would require us to trade picks in order to get him. The same goes for the threads about McNabb (who is still under contract) and Brandon Marshall (who I believe will be an RFA). These guys would cost us picks that we really cannot afford to lose. While it is true that our focus should be on the offensive line with a lot of our offseason moves, Dansby at the right price, would be a good acquisition if indeed we are moving to a 3-4 defense since he won't be restricted like a lot of the other free agent names people are throwing around. |

i realize you are just repeating what many others have said, but i think thats a big fat myth. there will be no cap in 2010, but itll be back in some form by 2011 or 2012. the owners, for the most part, WANT a salary cap... they think theyre paying players too much already. the players want a salary floor. something will be worked out. Its also very possible that contracts written before a new CBA is reached (probably sometime in 2011) will not have to apply by all of the rules of the new CBA. Or, more likely, the contracts would apply, but non-compliant teams would face less strict penalties for non-compliance before the New CBA vs. non-compliance after the new CBA. Whatever the case, I don't think teams should worry too much about the potential future ramifications of contracts signed in the capless year. I also think Dansby is a near-lock to become a Redskin if he choses not to resign with Arizona. |
re: Karlos Dansby anyone???? Interesting find...
No way should we go after this guy. Wilson will do fine in a 3-4. Paying another free agent is not the way to go. We've been down this road way too many times.

that road has only hurt us because of the salary cap - overspending in free agency in one year meant disaster 3-4 years down the road. The only thing the team needs to avoid is TRADING TOO MANY DRAFT PICKS for veteran players. That is something that will screw a team over whether there's a cap or not. |

Yeah, that was with freaking Vinny. Also, isn't Dansby an ILB, as opposed to Wilson who would probably be an OLB in a 3-4? As I said, all of this would be worth looking for the right price. Signing Dansby wouldn't take away from drafting the offensive linemen that we need. |

Good point. As I mentioned, this is the first free agent that anyone has brought up who's not going to be restricted, hence we won't need to trade anything to get him. |
re: Karlos Dansby anyone???? Interesting find...
What is everyone bashing Rocky for? He came back this year after his first year back from knee surgery and was second only to London. How is that bad or mediocre? Sure, we are lacking a good amount of depth, but how many teams can say that when an LB goes down they have someone to back them up?
I wouldn't be opposed to taking an LB in the draft or signing a decent deal in FA, but we have so many more holes to fill and this is a group that's average to above average if anything. |

re: Karlos Dansby anyone???? Interesting find...
LB isnt a dire need, but i'd say its more of a need if we stick with a 4-3. Picking up Dansby would allow us to move Orakpo to DE full-time and dramatically improve our front 7. It would also allow Blades to focus on developing at MLB to eventually replace Fletcher.
In any case, if there's no salary cap, and we're not giving up draft picks, then there's no reason not to upgrade every position, including those that are already "strengths." Honestly, Pass-catching TE and Strong Safety are the only positions on our roster where I feel there's no reason to even consider upgrading. |
re: Karlos Dansby anyone???? Interesting find...
dansby is good but not elite. i think he will want elite type money. not suggs money but something more than i would like to see us give to a guy who doesnt really impact the game or make big plays.
we could sign dhani jones and get similar production imo for alot less money. |

I just don't see a big upside with this guy. He's not a big sack guy and he just came off a defense that got trashed in the playoffs. No thanks. I'd like to see what Wilson can do in a 3-4. It did wonders for Elvis Dumerville so I'd rather go that route. |

the road has hurt us cause we pick the wrong guys that only want to come here to get paid. yeah we've hit on some but since this team has so many needs it just doesn't make sense to go out and spend big money on a player like dansby. i'd go out and try and see if new england has any intentions of paying logan mankins. |
re: Karlos Dansby anyone???? Interesting find...
Good player, but there's nothing really special about him. Big play ability, misses some easier plays, etc. He'd be a small upgrade over Rocky, but there's no reason to go this route.

I think a lot of people here were saying that if the price is right. Hopefully with the new FO, the team does a better job at handling these contracts with any free agent acquisition. Dansby is good. I'd pass...
You couldn't be more wrong. Fletcher and McIntosh are great, but between Orakpo's part-time out-of-position play at LB along with Blades and Wilson...we're very shallow at the position. |

I agree. I keep hearing about Dansby and I know he's been franchised before by the Cards, but seeing him play he doesn't exactly blow my socks off. He could probably help but I wouldn't expect anything spectacular from him. |
re: Karlos Dansby anyone???? Interesting find...
The only way I'd get Dansby is as a 4-3 OLB to replace Orakpo as he goes to DE. It doesn't sound like this team is headed in this direction so I'll pass on Dansby.
And I'd see Rocky as a 3-4 MLB for sure, definitley not a OLB in a 3-4 |
re: Karlos Dansby anyone???? Interesting find...
No thanks. I would keep our base 4-3 alignment the same. While giving a 3-4look I would have:
RE-Haynesworth, NT-a 330lbs+ low round compensatory pick, LE-Jarmon or Alexander ROLB-Wilson, ILB-McIntosh, ILB-Fletcher, LOLB- Orakpo |

Yeah, you can't have a pro-bowler at every spot. You're going to have to have some average and maybe below players at a few spots.. teamwork and schemes help make up for that |

MLBs aren't big pass rushers typically man.. that's more de, olb, ss, etc he can elevate those around him but not the whole D |

McIntosh plays in long yardage situations in all fronts (anything 8+ that's not first and ten). Heavy use of nickel packages where Carter and Orakpo are the ends, and Blades and Fletcher are the backers. |
