I read this article on Yahoo about it and some guy was like, "I don't even care what it is, I'll buy it no matter what the price."

We've had the PC versus Apple debate before, but maaaaaaaan, I didn't know it had gotten to that point. Insane.

Yeah that is insane considering it's rumored to be $800 - $1000 right off the bat. I never understood the need to be an early adopter. I'll just wait for the inevitable price drop with the release of the new and improved version in a year.

Yeah, it's definitely an interesting device. I fall right in the middle since I have to use both PC and Mac each day. Personally, I can't stand the iPod. I hate that you don't have drag and drop functionality. I have a Samsung MP3 player that I pad about $100 less for, have more memory on it and it's WAY more user friendly.

Whatever this new thing is called looks pretty good, but MAN that is almost as much as one of their laptops.

I don't have any desire to buy this thing any time soon. A big reason Apple charges these prices is because of how maniacal their following has become. People are nuts for Mac. Hell, if you can get away with charging what they do, then why not?

I love my iPhone, but those Apple stores are just stupid. $35 for a plastic case?? $20 for a thin piece of plastic film to cover the screen?? LOL. Gimmie a break.

You can't even call it a giant iPhone because there's no 3G...a giant iPod Touch that is smaller than a Netbook, but too big to shove in your back pocket.

It would definitely be cool for watching movies on a trip, reading magazines, newspapers, etc.

So could you just get the WiFi model and tether it to your iphone?

I'm glad I'm not hooked on buying all this new stuff. Heck I had to buy a converter box for my TV and have to carry around a portable battery pack for my cell phone.

I wonder what battery life is like. If the battery life is crap. I'd rather just have a netbook that gets about 8-9 hours of battery life...

I'm an apple guy going years back but I don't get this at all. Isn't this just a slightly smaller crappy laptop with no keyboard that costs a 1000 dollars? Other than touching the screen, is there anything you can do on this that you can't do on a macbook?

they're saying 10 hrs continuous usage (including video in HD), plus 1 month standby time.

Yeah OK, but what is it? Is it in impractical IPOD or just a crappy computer? If they offer a successful line of touch-screen music/game players and a successful line of laptops, what need is this fulfilling? It's like the worst of both worlds, too big to be portable, but not equipped with enough horsepower to compete with even a bottom of the line macbook (which is only nominally bigger). Don't get it.

That's kind of where I see it. Wife and I were discussing this earlier... So you carry a Laptop, a smartphone, a mp3 player and a netbook/tablet...? the categories are really spilling over into one another...

I agree, it's underwhelming. Until there's a killer app I think most will be in wait and see mode with it.

And why the hell would you want this in the first place. Its just a big ipod touch, without the ability to carry it around easily. Apparently the big market is going to be text books (which are already being heavily sold in data form). But all of them said they wouldn’t want to have to read text off a monitor for a 4+ hour crash session. Plus you cant really take it to class to take notes, because no key board. And it has a crappy os compared to netbooks or laptops, which means no multi tasking. So if you want to have your text book open, your notes from class, the internet for searching terms and chatting with other students no can do with the ipad. Maybe the heavy flow version that comes out will fix it, but this thing seems worthless in the day of netbooks. [/FONT][/COLOR]

Everyone cries about touchscreen keyboards but honestly once you get used to it, it's not a huge deal.

Right now the iPad is going to fit a niche market more than anything, but I definitely think it will be interesting to see where this goes in the future.

except it's got no phone, no camera, etc

you have to buy adapters to even plug something USB like a camera into it.. no HDMI out.. no true MULTI-TASKING... i'm not paying 500 for something that I can only run one full app at a time, running the same OS as the iphone, so no go on flash once again.. it should be running OS X or a slimmed down version of it
