Let It Snow
Well it looks like Va. is going to get hit tonight and tomorrow with a pretty big show storm. They are calling for up to 10" in the Va. beach area which will be one of the largest snow storms we have had in years. I have a full tank of gas, wife hit the grocery store, fire wood ready, couple movies rented, and I'll hit the ABC store on the way home. My 3 yr. old is pretty pumped up and I spent a good part of my morning thry to buy a sled with not luck but I did find a belly board which will work. So any of you guys in the area getting ready for some snow?

Re: Let It Snow
FREEZING in PA today...around 0, possibly negatives with the windch-ch-ch-chillllll.
|
Re: Let It Snow
Crazy cold here today too, windchill of -4. No snow in the forecast though. Outside of one storm in December it's been a light winter as far as snow goes in my area. I'm not complaining.

Re: Let It Snow
It wasn't warm walking to class this morning in College Park. I had to switch which hand was holding the thermos, and which hand was in my coat pocket. My hands were burning.

yea, i have a 13 year old son and a 8 year old daughter and they are really looking foward to playing in some snow because it's such a rareity(sp) aroung this place. also, my wife is a 911 op.for va beach. she goes in tonight at 11 and was told to bring a sleeping bag and enough supplies to last up to 3 days. there's a chance her regular pay could switch over to FEMA pay and that would be some awesome $$. |
Re: Let It Snow
in balmore were expected to only get 1 inch if that. i cant even complain about the 15-22 degree we are going to have this weekend considering the posters above me. last week it hit 60, this week it could 16.

Thats interesting. So what has to happen for it to switch over to FEMA pay? She will probably be pretty busy with the way people drive when we get just a little snow. The condition here are about as good as it gets for snow as its been pretty cold over the past several weeks and the forcast is calling for cold weather all week. I think I have asked you this before but what part of chesapeake do you live? Deep Creek? |

no, that won't up he pay. it has to be a city thing where pretty much all city employees are told to stay home unless you are considered ALPHA 1 (essential personel). i live off cedar rd. (las gaviotas) my work is in suffolk (460) |
Re: Let It Snow
I just can't imagine D.C. getting hit with another storm. All I have in the house to eat are chips, two slices of bread, chewing gum, and some Captain Morgan.

My office is between las gaviotas and city all on the left coming from your house. I live about a mile from Sleepthole Golf Course. I guess sometime tomorrow they will go to Alpha 1 as it seems when we get a dusting they do that. I guess she then gets paid by ferderal standards. My buddy loved when they did work for the federal goverment because by law they had to be paid at a higher level. |
Re: Let It Snow
This is ridiculous. Earlier this week I was stoked, was hoping I'd get classes canceled on Monday. But now they're calling for 2 inches or less. Fuck you snowstorm.

Don't give up hope so fast as the weather man is wrong about 95% of the time but if he is right I'll help. Fuck You snowstorm. |
Re: Let It Snow
I'm getting sick of all these snow storms. Whatever happened to the days where we only got snow a week before the spring started here in MD.
|
Re: Let It Snow
Hope all goes well for ya'll during the upcoming snowstorm. Things are going to get serious in Naples over the next couple of days as well. The weatherman predicting the mercury will dip below the dreaded 60!

It's snowing for real here in Germantown now at 10:30 A.M. South of us is expected to bear the brunt of this storm however. The ground is covered here with a prediction of approx 2". I'm just happy I don't have anyplace I have to go. |
Re: Let It Snow
so far here in chesapeake we've already got about 7 inches and it's supposed to snow all day.
|
Re: Let It Snow
We are around 7 to 8 inches and I had a chance to get out and try out the new 4x4 and it worked great. Tonight I think the streets will ice over and 4x4 is not much help there.
Wolfeskins, I guess I have some snow to deal with in great bridge tomorrow afternoon. I own the build and have 3 businesses in there and I don't need anyone falling and sueing me. I did fine some salt today which I guess I can throw down. Did your wife get to Alpha 1 today? |

no, my wife got off work at her regular time this morning, she has to go back in tonight at 11:30. i plan on taking her to work in our 4x4 so she doesn't have to drive her car to work. we went out earlier and the streets were already pretty bad, so i know they're just gonna get worse tonight. |
Re: Let It Snow
Snow story: One of my all time most favorite things to do in snow was bumper cars. I'd get a junk car and go to an empty parking lot and spin it on the ice. Dupont was great but they've cameras and gates now. It sure is fun flipping cars. If you do go upside down make sure you turn off the ignition if you stay on top. The fuel might dump back and you'll cook rather fast. This snow is nothing but powder. It'd be good to ski in but sucks for spinning.
Thank God there's no freezing rain. I'd hate to lose power. |

Re: Let It Snow
so what are the odds that my drivers side window would decide to break on a day like today. Going to do taxes, stopped at a dunkin donuts for a coffee, rolled down the window, and it wont roll back up. unbelievable so now i have it covered with plastic and hope i can fix it tomorrow.

Re: Let It Snow
F the snow. I run a 24x7 operation and when my part timers cannot make it...I have to bring my ass in. Well, look at me now, at work posting with you clowns when I wanted to be watching the Senior Bowl! I cannot wait for the next shift change.

no snow, but colder then a mother...

Re: Let It Snow
Southern Montgomery County was so unprepared for the snow today. They were only calling for around an inch, and they didn't have salt trucks or plows out until like lunch time. I went into work around 11 this morning, and the roads were really bad. They were still bad when I came home around 7.

DC wasn't any better. I live off a main road and even the main road was horrible. They did a terrible job of plowing and basically there was just a sand/salt/snow mush mix on the road. DC DoT gets a D grade on their preparedness this storm. But then again, I don't think any meteorologist predicted this much snow for the Metro area. |

Maybe they can have them cleaned off in time so you can get to school. |

We got way more than 2, it was like 7 inches. And we probably will have school unless Frederick got more. And I was pissy cause I had to go driving in it yesterday. My plan was to sit at home, snow and get out of school. But family effectively ruined that. |
Re: Let It Snow
Just got in from sledding with the kids. Tried out a new hill - had to pack up the car and drive a mile down the road. Well worth it. Good times.
|
Re: Let It Snow
we got significant accumulation here
6+ inches it seems too many drifts to be certain |

nice man when I lived in manassas I'd pick up my cousin and we'd hop on 3000/pw parkway off of 28 and shortly thereafter you'd hit a huge double hill on the side of the road, man-made, I guess for draining so that it didn't hit the road.. go down one hill, flattens out shortly, 2nd hill.. we built some mean ramps.. one kid got seriously 15 feet up off of it riding a tube a handful of years back |
Re: Let It Snow
We have like a 14' hill in our back yard which was perfect for my 3 yr old. I went to my office to clean off the side walks and on the way home a bunch of people where sleding down the hills off the overpass which is a pretty big hill. Va Beach has a hugh hill in a park and that dumb ass city will not let people sled down the hill and has people guarding it.
