Re: Jay Novacek's Wife Dies of Apparent Suicide
That's awful. Suicide is such a tragedy on so many levels. I can't imagine the dark depths your mind must sink to in order to go through with such a thing. Not to mention what it does to your friends and family. Just terrible.
I've always contended that suicide is a selfish act, but I guess that's easy for someone to say who has never been mentally driven to the brink like that. My thoughts and prayers are with the Novacek family. |

My uncle committed suicide and I saw his four daughters and wife just crumble. He destroyed 6 lives with that one selfish act. Interesting film to watch about suicide. As often as it is. Suicide is the easy way out for what people perceive to be problems they cant fix. What they do is devastate and destroy those that just wanted to love them. The only way I can possibly ever understand it is if it actually is resultant from mental illness. But to just 'escape' problems creates horrific problem for those that are left. |
Re: Jay Novacek's Wife Dies of Apparent Suicide
When I watch Intervention, if some of those folks on their off themselves it may be for the better of the family. There are worst ways to destroy your family then suicide.

Very sad news my prayers go out to the Novacek family.

Re: Jay Novacek's Wife Dies of Apparent Suicide
Suicide is the ultimate manifestation of a "disease" known as depression. If you have never had to deal with a family member with depression, or dealt with it yourself, you have no idea what a grip that disease can have on a human mind. It is a mental illness on par with schizophrenia.
For the folks that do carry through with suicide, generally their illness makes them truly believe that ending their life will benefit others. They do not see that it will harm others, rather they see their continuing to live as harming others. Warped as it is, that is their perception. It is easy to get angry with those with depression and to call their act self serving, since outwardly this disease seems so self-imposing, but you should not underestimate how sick these people really are and how helpless they are to control the problem. They need help, not anger. |

Re: Jay Novacek's Wife Dies of Apparent Suicide
A friend of my parents daughter blew her brains out about 15 years ago and the family never saw her again because of the trama to her head and face. About 10 yrs latter the mother was training for something and learning about head trama when the teachers used pictures of head trama. One of the pictures used was of her daughter and she freaked out but is now doing OK.

Re: Jay Novacek's Wife Dies of Apparent Suicide
better for her to kill herself, than do what Chris Benoit did, and off him and his whole family, actually it's better for her to end her own life, than end, everyone else, and including her's......

People who see it as a selfish act are observing the reality after the fact, but I don't think many people who haven't been to that depth can understand the true amount of rationalizing that takes place leading up to a depressed person's suicide. Re: Jay Novacek's Wife Dies of Apparent Suicide
Mc2guy, thanks for providing some needed perspective to this thread. Very uncomfortable to watch people line up to judge Ms. Novacek without, I presume, any knowledge of her mental health history.

Re: Jay Novacek's Wife Dies of Apparent Suicide
certainly awful. I do not know suicide first hand but I do know depression.
To change the subject slightly has anyone seen the movie the bridge? I remember seeing a documentary about it or something to that nature maybe on 20/20 or dateline last year. I have not seen the movie but reading the responses reminded me about this movie and I will be watching it soon through netflix. Just curious if any of you have seen it? |

Proverbs 12:25[/quote] With the media, the world situation, life these days, sometimes people have trouble finding that good word. I have tried to watch my words, to everyone, and really take to heart the power of positive words. If I can't be positive, or when criticism is needed be constructive, I really try not to say anything. All too often that one harsh word you could not refrain from saying is the one word that breaks a spirit or relationship. |
Re: Jay Novacek's Wife Dies of Apparent Suicide
I had back surgery at one time. While I was in rehab or pysical therapy my doctor, after 6 months of constent painkillers and what have you. They put me on some anti-depression pills with everything else. So the first night on them I was seeing crazy faces at night the harder I tried to get my mind right the worse it got. I started to feel like I just wanted to get a knife and start to hurt myself and the urge was so strong I slept with a knife under my pillow. I told the doctor how it made me feel, but I was told to give it a week. I never felt depressed prior to taking those pills. I took them for a month and a half and every day was a challenge. Once I stop taking them, a since of comfort came back to me. I trusted those Doctor that said they had my best intrest in mind. But they ignored my constent complaints atleast in my mind.
I feel good now but for that time in my life, I thought about suicide. So you cant jump judgement until you are in that persons shoes and trust me you dont want to be there. So what I am trying to say is she could have been on some meds that made her feel that way,her dosage might have been to much who knows. This is a very sad story and it hits my heart very deeply. Forgive me for my candor. I dont open up ever, but some of the post I just read, I just hope that you can open your mind and not think of it as a selfless act. Get the whole story first before you jump to conclusions. May GOD rest her soul if possible. |

One guy in the doc The Bridge said as soon as he left the bridge he wanted to live more then anything in the world, he survived the fall. Which makes me think may of these folks most think this so if you hit the net maybe you will be inclined to stay o nthe net and wait for help. |

Truth. It takes effort that I sometimes struggle with, but an effort worthwhile. Sometimes the cycle needs to be broken, and you have to take upon yourself to be the one to do it. |

I do too my friend, and all too often the snap response comes out before you can pull it back. |
