Michael Vick available...again

Vick could be traded before NFL draft | Digital Sports Daily

According to sources, Michael Vick has made it public that he wants a trade out of Philly. Andy Ried assured Vick that he will be traded before the draft in April. I could see him going to St. Louis, Minnesota, Buffalo, Oakland, or (gulp) Washington to fill in now while a starter is groomed. He was under-used in Philadelphia, and could have the potential to become an average to good QB. Does anybody see him landing here or would anyone want him?

no thank you, he was not a good qb back then and is even worse now, hopefully the new brain trust is beyond a stupid move like getting rid of draft picks for old washed-up felons

Here's an interesting article about the Redskins "Other" option at QB. Scroll down to 2nd article.

This would be the best scenario, IMO..

re: Michael Vick available...again

Keep Michael Vick far away from Washington. Th only QB's more overrated then Vick are Bradshaw and Namath. Campbell is 10 times the QB Vick is. Vick is a 50% passer that can occasionally break a big gain with his feet. He is by no means a QB where you can put the team on his back. Vick's career high completion percentage? 56.4% with 2,313 yards in 2004.

Heck Vick had a 46.2% completion percentage this year in limited action throwing mainly dump off passes.

If Dan Snyder ever wants to realistically challenge my allegiance to the Washington Redskins he should by all means sign Michael Vick.

Call me naive, but I have to believe that in the Bruce Allen era we no longer have to worry about doing completely insane counter-intuitive moves just for the sake of doing them.

Seriously?

He WAS an unbelievable play-maker when he played for the Falcons. He took them to the NFC champ in 2004 and he scored 29 total TDS and rushed for over 1,000 yds in 2006.

Nothing against Vick, but I don't want to send picks to the Iggles. If he gets cut, I would like to give him a look in FA, though I don't know if he is a good fit in Shanny's system.

We need more ammo. Throw in FedEx field. We'll play at DeMatha for a few years.

I always envisioned our QB making plays with his arm. If I wanted a QB who could run we could just draft Tebow.

Then again we haven't had a lot to cheer about these days. Hard for fans to get excited about the prospect of 8-8 every year.

29 tds as a qb is ok, but I would not say he has "It". 40 year old Farve has it. 33tds this year. Yes the dude was a playmaker, but he has never won anything. Yeah he got close, but so did Mark Brunel. Does/ Did he have "it"? And Considering he threw his career away for dog fighting i would definately not consider him an "it" guy. The guy who has "it" is dedicated to the game, loves playing it, and wouldn't risk it running an illegal enterprise.

I do appluade MV for turning his life around and I wish him all the best where ever he lands. As long as it is not in the NFC East.

Tebow won't have the same success running the ball in the NFL. He's a tough guy and a great college player but I don't think he has the speed to do what he did in college.
If he makes it as a NFL QB, I'm sure he can buy time with his feet and pick up a couple first downs/game with his feet but that's a big if. It doesn't seem like there's a lot of confidence in him making the transition.
As far as Vick goes, he WAS AT ONE TIME an unbelievable offensive threat. I'm sure he kept opposing defensive coordinators up at night trying to figure out how to slow him down. I don't think he'll put up the same numbers as a starting QB anymore. I don't think he'd be a good fit in Washington either.

While he didn't run an enterprise I would say that LT had his own demons. Love some of the stories about that guy though, like sending hookers to the hotels of the opposing team the night before games.

Re: Michael Vick available...again

A dog fighting kennel like his would be considered an "illegal enterprise".

And yes I find the old LT stories funny, and that was more of a guy having to much fun! He was a partier, and a good one. The 80s were a different time to.

GusFrerotte 02-03-2010 10:02 PM

Re: Michael Vick available...again

80's was about enjoying life. Rather have Rozell than Goodell as Commish. Goodell has taken the fun out of the NFL by making it more corporate and PC.

Re: Michael Vick available...again

I am not making a case for signing Vick here; however I have to disagree w/ the consensus on Vick's ability and his future.

It's been widely reported, and confirmed, that during his 1st tenure in the league Vick 1) rarely practiced 2) never studied film 3) didn't really learn the playbook 4) didn't make a commitment to develop chemistry w/ his WR corp 5) partied a ton and basically didn't focus on football.

...and yet, the dude still managed to win a lot of games on a crappy team. Has Vick likely lost some physical prowess? Probably. But there is little doubt the dude has tremendous athletic ability and talent. There's also little doubt he knows this is his only chance to be great again, so I'd bet the farm Vick 1) practices his ass off 2) studies film constantly 3) memorizes the playbook 4) develops chemistry w/ his WR corp 5) FOCUSES ON FOOTBALL.

If he does these things I think he becomes a solid passer, like over 60% completion the first year. I think it's more likely he's a stud than a dud...

Goat

The guy wasn't a passer period. Do you think he is going to all of a sudden become a model QB student of the game after all these years? Hard work, study flim, etc? You kidding me? Vick can't take all the blame for his condition. VA Tech didn't do the guy any favors by giving him everything(chicks, probably $, etc) including a free pass in terms of academics just so he could rake in the dough for them. Can't teach a guy who has been given everything up front, and has relied solely on his athletic ability to all of a sudden become a hard worker. The guy is a journeyman QB from here on out

You may be exactly right Gus. I'm just saying Vick damn well knows he's got one chance to become a marque player again. Yes I think he's gonna focus on football because otherwise he'll never again have the success, or the fan support, or the money (which he badly needs I understand).

...as the zen master says, we'll see :)

Successful schools tend to have successful alumni and area boosters, much like college programs. When you can get an area hyped about football you sell a shitton of tickets and the people who have become movers and shakers will cut you a pretty check.
