Darrell Green has still got it
Darrell Green celebrated his fiftieth birthday Monday like only he can.
The Redskins Hall of Famer tweets that he ran a 4.43 forty in Orlando this morning to celebrate the milestone and humiliate prospects getting ready for next week's Scouting Combine. Okay, he didn't say that last part. But we'd like to send out a hearty PFT happy birthday to Green, a memorable player for all of his 20 NFL seasons |
Re: Darrell Green has still got it
It would have been faster...but tweeting while sprinting is known to slow you down a bit

Get in touch with a member of the DC media that ever had any dealings with him when the camera was off, and they'll tell you. There have always been rumblings of this. |
Re: Darrell Green has still got it
Ass or not, happy birthday to DG. Dude still has some serious speed at age 50, amazing.

Re: Darrell Green has still got it
I wish we had some a$$ on the current team
|
Re: Darrell Green has still got it
Seems like a lot of people don't like his autograph policies either. Whatever, happy birthday to Mr. Green and wtf speed still
Seems like a lot of people don't like his autograph policies either. Whatever, happy birthday to Mr. Green and wtf speed still
I knew about the autograph thing. I met him briefly at a Bullets game while we passed in the concourse at the old Capital Center. It was just he and I in the councourse area and I stopped him, told him I was a fan and offered my hand, he shook my hand and thanked me. He seemed genuine and polite.
I don't have season tix, and never heard the behind the scenes stuff. Fair enough tho'. Guy is still a rocket and was a great Redskin. |
Re: Darrell Green has still got it
........I beat Darrell Green in a race once.

Re: Darrell Green has still got it
I've expressed my sentiments about DG in the past, based on multiple personal experiences with him. But that's, to me, irrelevant to what he meant to the Redskins and their fans on Sundays. He is, on the field at least, one of the greatest Redskins ever. And I would venture to say many of us would not even be on this board, let alone fans of the Redskins, if not for Green.

If you are, tell Florio he's a douche. |
Re: Darrell Green has still got it
Happy BD Darrell Green. Sign the man up, even at 50 he's still better right now than anything we have in the secondary.

I agree SS. He's meant a ton to this franchise. Happy Birthday DG and thanks for catching Dorsett. It was great! |
Re: Darrell Green has still got it
He is probably my favorite Redskin of all time but the few times I have meet him he is jerky and put off by the attention. Ok so if you don't like fans bugging you don't live in Loudon County and have a road named after you, you are just asking for attention. Move to FL or better yet Dallas no will give a crap about you.
Part of it is a lot of folks love the guy for who they see on the field and on air, big smile, hard worker, great athlete, Mr. Redskins, etc... then when they actually meet him expectations are not meet. I agree it is hard to be "on" all the time, so I credited the few poor encounters Ihad with him as having a bad day but when I brought it up on this forum it seemed like Iwas not alone in my findings. In the end he made me very happy on many Sunday afternoons and he does a lot for the DC area, so with that Happy B-Day DG! |
Re: Darrell Green has still got it
I guess it all goes along with the saying "Never meet your heroes"
I understand not wanting to be pestered everywhere you go, but those fans are the reason he's rich |

This is off topic, but I'm curious - of great Redskin players you covered, who were the best that you dealt with off the field/off the record?
Regardless of Green's off-field demeanor, he will always be a favorite. I liken his freakish speed at an advanced age to Nolan Ryan still throwing no-hitters and 98 degree heat at 46. Both Green and Ryan were extreme freaks of nature. |

Tre Johnson was always entertaining. Danny Wuerffel was awesome, could never say enough nice things about him as a person (though I can't say I liked seeing him on the field in a Redskins uniform). Kevin Lockett was pretty cool too. Well not cool per se, but nice to talk to about stuff other than football. Dana Stubblefield was always nice to me, but apparently not to his wife, which is extremely disappointing. And then there was Michael Westbrook, who when he wanted to be was the most pleasant, engaging person to be around. But could change in a matter of seconds. |
Re: Darrell Green has still got it
If Chuck Norris lost both of his legs, he could beat DG in a foot race. JK, Happy B-day, and damn, slow down and enjoy getting old.

Seriously??????????? this makes him an ass?? When a guy is playing football and doesn't look into the stands, that would be called playing the game. I dont think looking into the stands is required to be a good guy |

I guess Hall is making a great decision:
DeAngelo Hall Discusses Darrell Green By the way, Deion was a pussy who wouldn't tackle and got way too much credit, more than Green, who shutdown everyone, tackled and play in the league for 20 years and could still play at 50. |
Re: Darrell Green has still got it
Great story...Hall should be much better.
