As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
Would anyone be interested in Thomas Jones
|
re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
I like TJ, keeps himself in great shape, runs hard... sure why not?
|
re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
Good player i know money is no object to us so we could get him but i think at his age he would want to play on a contending team & we are on a 2 to 3 yr plan.
|
re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
I've always liked TJ. He would be a fine addition as long as we make sure that we have some youth at the position, too.
|
re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
sure, i like him much more than the other 30 somethings out there (CP, LT,BW)
|
re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
He brother used ot be a Cowboy. I don't like him.
|
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
He's like the anti CP in his approach to the game. JLC compared his stats to CP's over the years & made the point that TJ has been just as productive w/out the drama & big paycheck.
He's from Big Stone GAp in Va. so he might want to come home. I'd ideally rather see a young draft pick (4th or later) added to the mix, but if they decide to nab a vet, TJ maybe the best out there, including LT & WEstbrook. Dude is tough & durable. |
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
Ummmm, I'd say no. Clinton is as good and alittle younger. We need to just keep CP and draft a young rb.
|
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
No, no more old players especially RBs.
|

I like Thomas Jones but would rather have Chester Taylor if there's a way we could get him to come here. |
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
Definitely. He's a workout freak...probably why he's not in LT or CP condition.

If we go the old free agent route then he has much more in the tank then LT or Westbrook. I think I prefer Chester Taylor slightly. Would really rather draft a RB and leave the free agency dollars to other positions. |

I would definitely take him over CP |
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
I would too, but CP is under contract with us already and Jones isn't. I know the seasons uncapped, but I don't think Jones is sufficently superior to CP to justify cutting Portis, paying him anyways, and then picking up Jones and paying him probably close to the same thing. Just not worth it.
|
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
With no cap who cares, it's a perfect time to dump CP. Snyder has shown in the past he's got no problem with paying a guy to not play for the Skins so it's not out of the question.
|
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
Split backfield with 2 TEs. :)

I'm pretty sure they both grew up as Skins fans though. |
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
Well it all depends.
1) Has Portis been cleared to play and what has the doctor recomended? If he's not cleared then he can't play and might be forced to retire. He could be cleared but recomended not to play any longer so no further damage occurrs. I don't want to see the team in a position like the Eagles were last yr with Westbrook. He comes back and take another hard hit and easily gets a concussion due to his previous one and is sitting on the bench taking a roster spot while we wait for a doctor to clear him. Plus he's almost 30. The only benifit we get from CP right now is he knows the scheme Shanahan will run. I'd rather get younger and healthier at the positions but if we cut Portis, Betts, and Rock and picked up one Vet FA and had Ganther, Mason, Alridge and a drafted RB I'm in. |
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
I really hope the staff fully evaluates our current Redskins and puts together a RB group that will average atleast 5 ypc. We have too many runningbacks on this roster with little to no value and it would be better to draft some fresh legs in here rather than chase retreads
|
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
Don't think he has anything more in the tank than either Westbrook or Tomlinson. Westbrook offers the most future value of any of the available thirty plus RBs (though I like Kevin Faulk personally).
I think if the playoffs are a small indication, Jones is pretty much done. He might hang on for a year or two, but hopefully not with us. |
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
I'd rather have Clinton Portis and all those hungry young guys behind him.

True true I am cool with him again. |

Besides, there are a couple of [soon-to-be] ex-Broncos RBs that could come here. |
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
I like Jones, don't know if he'll be the best fit but who knows. We don't HAVE to draft a RB this year, there's next year to do that as well.

Ummm....CP is 28 |

JLC will always have a negative slant on the Redskins. |
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
RB shouldnt be a concern unless were talking draft.
Well have a fresh look to the backfield and running scheme no matter what. A new rookie will set the tone. CP is still solid too.. youll see. |
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
RB is the least of our worries with Shannhan at the helm. Based on his history I wouldn't expect any veteran RB's to be acquired. I can foresee Shanny drafting a RB in the middle rounds, someone who'll be a major contributor to our offense next year.

Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
I like how a lot of people think that we'd be committing long term to anyone over 28

Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
its true that portis isn't 30 yet, but if you look at his injuries, the amount of carries he's had, and the fact that he doesn't take care of himself anymore, he's about 65 in people years.
Him getting back in shape is the only chance he has this year, or he could be out of the league in 2011 if he has another crappy year. |

Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
on NFLN they just said that the breaking news is that Jones' option won't be exercised
there's slight talk between agent and team about a restructure but it's very unlikely that it will happen |
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
No thanks!

Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
If Portis is medically cleared...he'll be in shape and our starter for 2010. No one ever questioned his heart under Gibbs...why should we under Shanny?

His heart was questioned by some people during the Zorn fiasco. |

There certainly were questions about his work ethic. |

Last season...but not the prior season when he started off leading the NFL in rushing and powering us to victories in Dallas and Philly. In fact, he started off the 2008 training camp by challenging a then 22 year old Laron Landry (4.38 in the 40yd dash at the 2007 combine) to a race...and tying him (although they both say they won). Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
I say we keep CP, but when we play him we put in the line from 2009. That'll get rid of him.
|
Re: As Long As We're Talking Running Backs Over 30 Years Old
Well he played behind the same line in '08 and had a good year. The guy gets a concussion and all of a sudden he's never been here huh? You guys are like listening to Lavar and Dukes.
