Zorn wanted to cut Brennan prior to 09 season - report

Colt could use an attitude adjustment maybe, but IMO this makes Zorn out to be a liar. Remember how he said he had "big plans" for Colt, praising his work ethic, and saying he hoped he would challenge TC15 for the backup job?? |

Re: Zorn wanted to cut Brennan prior to 09 season - report
Yeah not exactly breaking news, we heard about this a few weeks back.
I don't think it says Zorn is a liar, it just says cutting Colt wasn't his say, so after the fact he had to spin things in a positive light is all. Coaches "lie" all the time expect we call it coach speak. |
Re: Zorn wanted to cut Brennan prior to 09 season - report
Zorn was clueless, I really don't put any credibility in anything he did or said. A guy who was aiding seniors and was out of the league walked off the street and made Zorn's offense look grade school in comparison.
|
Re: Zorn wanted to cut Brennan prior to 09 season - report
what? if he wanted to there was a completely perfect opportunity for him to do so...injury and poor preformance by a 3rd string QB, perfect reason to get rid of Colt. And Chase was brought in and played well, so why didnt he cut him and stay with Chase? Im really not buying it

Ex-Redskins coach Jim Zorn reportedly wanted to cut QB Colt Brennan before the 2009 season started. Brennan had a miserable 2009, playing poorly in three straight preseason games before landing on injured reserve with a torn labrum in his hip. He's also turned off some members of the organization with a cocky attitude (despite his lack of NFL success). Brennan isn't the quarterback of the future, and he may not make the team in |
Re: Zorn wanted to cut Brennan prior to 09 season - report
I don't think Zorn had much weight when it came to making decisions, even in the beginning. If Vinny said he had to keep him, he was the type of person to publicly make the most of it and try to stay positive.

Zorn may have in over his head as a coach and was put in a terrible situation with Vinny & Co. running things, but I'm sure he knows QBs. And I would say that if you're a rook with an attitude and you're playing poorly, you should be cut. |
Re: Zorn wanted to cut Brennan prior to 09 season - report
Zorn definitely wasn't calling the shots in regard to personnel, his hands were tied by Vinny.
In the end though who cares? It's officially the start of the 2010 season today, so let's just bury the Zorn/Vinny era. It's over. |
Re: Zorn wanted to cut Brennan prior to 09 season - report
Wow! A coach who is no longer here wanted to cut a 3rd string QB who won't be here much longer. Big news!!!
|
Re: Zorn wanted to cut Brennan prior to 09 season - report
So there aren't any specifics of when exactly before the 2009 season he wanted to cut him?
Or maybe there is: Redskins Insider - Colt Brennan faces uncertain future with Redskins
But Zorn expected Brennan to challenge Todd Collins for the backup job in the 2009 preseason, and that didn't happen because Brennan struggled. Also, some in the organization grew frustrated with Brennan because of what they perceived to be his cockiness despite never having accomplished anything in the NFL, team sources said.

Zorn, however, determined that Brennan did not progress enough from his rookie season to commit a roster spot to him. Although Zorn was fired after going 12-20 in two seasons and often seemed to be in way over his head, his credentials as a quarterbacks coach are unquestioned.
So it sounds like he wanted Chase or something. So I suggest next time to check your biases before engaging in potential libel. |
Re: Zorn wanted to cut Brennan prior to 09 season - report
Yo, dude.
I'm not bashing Zorn, nor was i being biased. I was just saying that after Brennan's injury and everything, Zorn still said good things about him bla blah, how he would have a role with the team, etc.... |
Re: Zorn wanted to cut Brennan prior to 09 season - report
Colt has been discussed a bit in the last thread bearing his name. Who really cares what Zorn thought? His thinking is the reason he's no longer here.

An interesting exception was Allen's presser yesterday, in which he said of the guys being cut, "Many were good Redskins players." Which means some were not, in his estimation. He didn't name names but that is about as critical as you'll see from a FO person. |

Collins had a solid tenure here, he's always going to be a fave of mine for how he played down the stretch in '07.

Why badmouth your players when you can talk good about them and maybe generate some interest from another team who might give you something for him. |

I thought he was better then Collins and honestly thought Chase Daniels had more accuracy then both Colt and JC. I was hoping we would keep Chase and give him a couple of years to learn, cut Collins prior to last year, and make Colt the #2. Instead Colt got injured, and Chase cut. |

It's funny, when Joe was here and all you would hear is him saying it all rests on his shoulders fans would be all up in arms calling out the players saying Joe had nothing to do with how the players play on the field and Joe should just tell us fans who screwed up. I've heard this and read this during both terms. Then we pick up Zorn who calls out players in order to get them to perform and people complained about how he was airing all the laundry through the media, then the players got on board and all of a sudden it was taboo. All I can remember is thinking how nice it was prior to the airing of the laundry and calling people out. |
Re: Zorn wanted to cut Brennan prior to 09 season - report
This is coach who called the same bs play 2 times in a row. -swinging gate-
But like many have said there is a reason he is no longer here.... Shanny is running the show and as of now Colt is still on the roster. If he were cut then we could say something but id have to say i go with Shanahan over Zorn on talent evals. |

I think Steve Spurrier Era was worse than the Zorn Era. They both were terrible but at least Zorn's 1st year I thought we may have found a good new young HC. Boy that was short lived. |
Collins had a solid tenure here, he's always going to be a fave of mine for how he played down the stretch in '07.
AMEN! I would take a well prepared PROFESSIONAL like Todd Collins as my backup QB over an immature, cocky Colt Brennan any day of the week. I was never a big fan of the Brennan selection. He had bloated numbers playing in a "Chuck and Duck" system in college. How many of those types ever amount to anything at the next level? 'Nuff said.

Re: Zorn wanted to cut Brennan prior to 09 season - report
We talked about a lot of this stuff last summer. That Zorn expected Colt to challenge Collins for the #2 job, was disappointed when he failed to. And now, that Colt's new attitude these past few months have impressed a lot of people after his first couple of years of arrogance

I don't know. Zorn inherited a team that was on a bit of a roll. Spurrier took over after a lot of crap went down. Equal records. |
Re: Zorn wanted to cut Brennan prior to 09 season - report
I hope Collins goes to Baltimore to hang out with Zorn and Saunders. :D

People may think I am crazy but I truly believe this team would have won more games if Collins was the started during the two years that Saunders was here. Sunny seemed to think we would have won more games last year with Collins as the starter. I guess we will never know... It was great to be a Redskins fan during that run with Collins. |

Can we re-title this thread the "Warpath Cognitive Dissonance" thread?
Collins had a solid tenure here, he's always going to be a fave of mine for how he played down the stretch in '07.
Yeah, I think I've been unnecessarily harsh on Collins both before his success here, and after it, usually in response for someone propping him up to be something he isn't. But one thing that Collins absolutely was here was a great signing. I'd say that either he or Randle El was the second best signing of the 2006 offseason behind Carter. And he got a fraction of the money of the rest of them.
Terrible extension of course, the Redskins should have let him walk after 07 at his asking price, but excellent signing in 2006. |

#3 receivers making #1 money are always going to be easy targets. |
#3 receivers making #1 money are always going to be easy targets.
Not to mention return specialists can be found in the later rounds and UDFA. Hell, Trinidon Holliday is worth it because he actually has straight line speed while Randle El didn't since 2008. |

Randle El didn't run straight since 2008 so it's hard to say if he still had the speed or not. He was usually pretty money on 3rd down but then again Reche Caldwell was too and what happened with that? |

I think he had one return this year when he did a have a nice one. He got tackled from behind, I think, but my memory is foggy. Also, there was that 40+ yard reception or whatever; he definitely got tackled from behind. |
