Portis/ Parker Combination?
Your thoughts on the potiental of us possibly picking up Willie Parker to pair with Clinton Portis in the backfield.
Redskins Insider - Willie Parker will visit Ashburn I see him as a great pickup becoming a change of pace back. He has the speed and smarts to hurt other teams. I would still hope we draft a third back if we brought him here. |
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
It never hurts to bring in a guy that has speed , and he is < was ? > fast Willie Parker . I also would like to pick a rb in rd 4 or 5 .... hopefully a guy who runs angry !

I dont know if he is the total answer, but if we picked him up, I would certainly want to take a young guy in the draft. Thats assuming that Aldrige didnt fix is fumble addiction. |
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
I somewhat agree that having another veteran RB wouldn't hurt but, why not keep Betts or Cartwright? Parker is no spring chicken and was hurt last year too. Too many examples of rookie RBs having success in this league (and in Shanahan's offense) goes against the need to sign Parker or LT for that matter. We're stuck with Portis only because of his contract.

Let's end the Alridge love affair already. |
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
I'm sorry... but I've been thinking for a while... LaGarrett Blount from Oregon... the guy's stock is down because of the infamous punch... but I LOVE the way the dude runs and we may be able to get a 1st round talent in the 3rd-4th round.

I'll second that. |
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
Like everyone says we have alot of holes to fix bringing in FWP would be good IF he can stay healthy one less thing to think about this year, CP, AA & FWP not a bad trio.
|
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
I said it another thread too...my hunch is portis is gone if we sign parker. I think Shanny will take a veteran RB into the season but I also strongly believe he'll draft 1 or 2 (especially if we gain more picks).
CP didn't look good last year and Shanny/Allen have no reason to be overly devoted. It's about the team now rather than certain players. |

Willie Parker is 29 yrs old, Betts and Cartwright are 30 so not much of a difference there. I wouldn't mind having a backfield of Portis, Parker, and a rookie (see Thomas Jones, Leon Washington, and Shonn Greene last year). I think BA has already shown us that he's not going to overpay people, so I'm confident that they'll get a good deal with Parker. Also, I feel that Parker has a chip on his shoulder from last year. |
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
blount WP, and CP would be even beter IMO...

Yeah that would be a good look to. |

I would hardly call it a "love affair." We have cut a few running backs in the last few weeks and Aldrige remains. I am not saying he is going to be great, I am only pointing out that he is still on the team. |
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
Yeah Blount would be a good late round pick-up w/ Fast Willie and if Portis can get his head right and mouth in check, we could have something there.

Your probably a Colt fan telling us to get over Aldridge. LOL |

Get over Aldridge |
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
Does Portis still have his bone spurs?
I'm not too high on this combo. |
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
he does have the bone spurs and won't get sugery

I will if you get over Colt. |

If that's the case, I don't think it's not wise to go into the season with 2 pairs of busted legs. We need fresh ones. A late round draft pick or some UDFAs could help establish a rotation to get through the year. |
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
We need to have RB's that can do more than one thing. Maybe they can return punts & kickoffs as well.
|
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
^ I think that is the real reason we kept aldridge

Because Betts will be 31 when the season starts, tore two ligaments in his knee (an ACL tear alone is a two year injury), was injury prone before that and he isn't cheap for a backup. Rock has proven that he just isn't an effective runningback and he really has been whining the last year which isn't what you want out of a "team leader" and 3rd string back. |
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
Let's end the Alridge love affair already.
Why? He has true, difference making speed. |
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
Fast Willie Parker is not a bad pick up if we can get him for cheap .. i like the sounds of WP, Blount, and CP .. that's a 3 headed monster IMO .. HTTR .. can't wait for the DRAFT in primetime ...
|
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
I will if you get over Colt.
I will if either: A) we start winning consistently again or B) we draft Sam Bradford or C) all the above |
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
Wouldnt be a bad pickup if we can get Willie Parker cheap but im willing to bet the entire redskins franchise both Parker AND Portis dont make it through the whole season uninjured. I hope we pick up Montario Hardesty in the draft. A near Portis clone except better work ethic and much younger. Think Clinton Portis's two 1500 yard seasons under the broncos. Hardesty spent college in a zone blocking scheme. 1 cut back. Portis, Parker, n Hardesty def a three headed monster.

Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
Would be better off picking up Thomas Jones.
|
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
I like the idea of bringing in a second back for when Portis starts sucking and/or gets hurt....I'm just not sure of Willie being the one. I feel good about Thomas Jones, but it would never happen...

How is Jones any better than Portis? Because he doesn't say dumb things? I would be in favor of Jones if it part of a culture change but I am not buying that he is an upgrade on the field. |
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
I think a Portis/Parker platoon could be very interesting, assuming they are both healthy of course.

Exactly and having both of them will likely keep them both healthier and more likely to complete the season than either of them being a workhorse. |
Re: Portis/ Parker Combination?
Plus ganther
.. assuming we keep him |

agree, that is if they're signing a vet to a reasonable contract. I wouldn't mind if they don't sign any fa rb. |

I think he was a whole lot better than CP last year. CP looked terrible at times, stumbling on his blockers, losing his balance in the open field. |

It was almost comical at times. But it was painful too. |

Especially if we add a dash of Montario Hardesty to the mix. |
