Compensatory Picks Awarded
The rich get richer. F!
New England Patriots awarded 4 compensatory draft picks in later rounds - NFL - SI.com "The New England Patriots are the big winner for losing free agents last year. The Patriots have been awarded the maximum of four compensatory picks in April's NFL draft. The selections will come in the sixth round (one, No. 205 overall) and seventh round (three, Nos. 247, 248 and 250). In all, 32 such picks were given out Monday, with 19 teams getting at least one. Carolina, Pittsburgh and Tennessee each get three, while Atlanta, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Philadelphia receive two. Getting one compensatory choice will be Green Bay, Detroit, Jacksonville, Miami, Minnesota, Oakland, St. Louis, San Diego, Seattle, Tampa Bay and San Francisco. |

Oh well, back to plan A.

Re: Compensatory Picks Awarded
It is amazing how the most successful teams in the draft and on the field are getting the most compensatory picks.
I am glad we changed course and are no longer the best at signing overpriced FA's and bullshitting the cap. It is about time we learned from the successful teams and followed their lead. It took Danny 10 years to figure it out. Better late than never. |

Or their most productive days are behind them. Older players tend to be more injury prone and miss more time. In general. |

Enough with the photos of him sitting right between Shanny & Allen at the combine. |
Re: Compensatory Picks Awarded
The Bengals did the best with a 3rd and 4th rounder ,and the Patriots got more ammo to be able to move around like always. Well maybe the Skin will get a pick next year ,lol .

Re: Compensatory Picks Awarded
Hopefully ARE, Griff, Betts, and Smoot will get us a few comp picks next year.

Yeah, I did not notice that. A 3rd and a 4th in this deep draft is huge. Teams drafting behind them are bitching. Dan is cursing Vinny's photo. |

I might be wrong, but I think you only get compensatory picks if another team signs your FA.?.? Releasing them does not count.?.? I think. |

The picks are awarded based on free agents that you lose, not guys that you cut. |
Re: Compensatory Picks Awarded
Well the Bengals could use the extra picks anyway.

thats a very good point. if you let a player walk who is going to get alot more money somewhere else than he's worth to your team, you're going to get a 3rd-4th round compensatory pick for him. its not alot, but its better than nothing. for carolina, i certainly think that the 3rd round compensatory pick is probably worth more to the carolina panthers than keeping peppers and giving him tens of millions of dollars would have been. |

FYI, cannot trade a Compensatory pick. |

Though it may make them slightly more willing to part with other picks for the sake of trading up. |

Re: Compensatory Picks Awarded

Because Vince Wilfork sat on Roger Goodell until Goodell screamed for mercy. |

Maybe, they filmed Goodell when he went out at night with his mistress. |
Re: Compensatory Picks Awarded
^ Goodell's or Wilfork's?

Please. Haven't you ever left your house and seen some guy on top of a neighboring building with a tripod and a Patriots hat? People get paranoid about big brother, but in reality they should really just fear New England. |
Re: Compensatory Picks Awarded
I always thought Compensatory picks were somewhat chosen by how many starters the team lost to either FA or the team cut? I'd of thought we would have gotten one for ARE maybe atleast one or two more in there.

It took Danny 10 years to figure it out. Better late than never.
No doubt about it. The Patriots now have 12 picks in this year's draft. TWELVE. Between this year and next year, they have 7, count 'em, 7 picks in the first 2 rounds. Unreal. At the precise moment when they have lost too many accomplished vets to be a real contender, they are set up to have a massive influx of serious young talent. IMO they are the benchmark of how to manage personnel. In the same vein, with Pioli now in KC, don't be surprised to see that team become the bell cow in AFC West in the not too distant future (especially if Matt Cassell continues to improve). Again it only pertains to free agents you lose, not guys you cut. |

i did not know that. thanks |
Re: Compensatory Picks Awarded
I know the formula is based around free agents lost, but does that include cuts? Like if Randy Thomas, Cornelius Griffin, Fred Smoot, etc.. sign, will we get compensation for that?

Re: Compensatory Picks Awarded
Not trying to bring up old stuff...actually that's exactly what I'm doing. I still feel that we should have gotten something in return for losing Sean Taylor. Maybe it is something that they can discuss in the new CBA to compensate teams for any player that they lose involuntarily. I would not include players who perform an illegal act and go to jail or get suspended. That way player conduct is still vital.

Re: Compensatory Picks Awarded
New England Patriots
Lost: Heath Evans, Jabar Gaffney, Larry Izzo, LaMont Jordan, Lonie Paxton Signed: Brandon McGowan Total compensatory picks: 4 The Patriots Didnt lose anyone of importance ,and didnt sign any good UNrestriced free agents. The players they got were either relesed from another team or traded to them . I belive they look for thouse player so that they can always come away with some comp picks. And the vaule of the contracts that the lost free agents sign detrimes the pick. Like the bengals get a 3rd and 4th because of the contracts that TJ house and Stacy Andrews got. |
