The [URL="http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/NFL"][COLOR=#0000ff]NFL[/COLOR][/URL] schedule should come out this week. Should. Nobody knows for sure, although I wouldn't expect anything today.
Normally the league releases the opening week primetime games and [URL="http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Thanksgiving"][COLOR=#0000ff]Thanksgiving[/COLOR][/URL] matchups from the Owners Meetings but that was delayed. Now the full schedule has been delayed just a little bit, too.

We've already guessed that the Cowboys would open the new stadium in the Meadowlands against the [URL="http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/New_York_Giants"][COLOR=#0000ff]New York Giants[/COLOR][/URL] on NBC. [B]On [URL="http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/ESPN"][COLOR=#0000ff]ESPN[/COLOR][/URL] Radio last week, [URL="http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Troy_Aikman"][COLOR=#0000ff]Troy Aikman[/COLOR][/URL] said rumblings are that the Cowboys would open the season at Washington for a late afternoon game on Fox with Aikman and [URL="http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Joe_Buck"][COLOR=#0000ff]Joe Buck[/COLOR][/URL] calling the action.[/B]

There seems to be some symmetry to the Giants-Cowboys being the Week 1 game because of last year's [URL="http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Cowboys_Stadium"][COLOR=#0000ff]Cowboys Stadium[/COLOR][/URL] opener and the Cowboys playing the first game at Giants Stadium.

Yeah I heard this last week... not sure if its true or not...

Can they just release the GD schedule already? Maybe its different for me because I'm out of town and will plan like my vacation days around this at times to go to games, but this is really starting to annoy the **** out of me. I dont get why its such a big secret. They already know who plays who...just let us know when the Skins are at home!!

Dang I was sure we would be opening at the NY(J) Giants! 2 years in a row and then we don't get to open their new stadium by finally beating their tail! Geez whoever does the scheduling ought to be fried!

I really just need to know the September games, so I can plan which games I'm going to.. adn waht weeks were on at 1pm and the Giants are primetime so I can plan my trip to Tampa to visit a friend who is a Giants fan....

Is that really too much to ask!?!?

Seriously... I mean how tough is it to write the schedule? How can it not be done yet?

I really want to apply for a job and be one of the schedule makers... I'm pretty sure with 30 beers and a few hours, I'd be able to hammer down a schedule that will break ratings records for all stations.

Ha, I dont know why I'm so bitter about this... maybe its just that I wanan get my time off in cause its tough sometimes to get days off here or what, but I'm really impatient with this.

You're saying my job's easy?! Granted, it's not my job anymore but still just a few things to consider:

-Contractual limitations and obligations
-Other programming obligations on the networks
-Event logistics (suppose there's an MLB game in Baltimore the same day as a home Ravens game and at the same time, how will that affect traffic patterns, or what if there's a concert scheduled in the stadium?)
-Franchise QB gets traded at the last minute before the schedule is set to be announced
-Traveling distance for teams and networks

Did you actually used to write it? lol... I'm so confused now.

No I know, I'm being a little rediculous... but I mean they know there is a ton that goes into it...but I think what really irritates me about it is that the NFL keeps it as some like huge secret. I mean we already know who and where we're playing, should it really be a big deal as so when. Even if they just release the dates that we'll be home, it would just be a lot easier to plan... and I just hate how its been pushed back and the Week 1 Primetimes werent released this year....

Well not me alone, but yeah I was part of the group (moved on to bigger things now, but I still consult on it)

Even the dates we'll be home honestly comes down to the very last minute

It should be released sometime between tonight and Thursday night, but then again it should have been last week until...we screwed it all up

It is pretty cool, but it really can be a total pain in the ass at times. I mean we're talking about scheduling several networks 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and then at the same time having to work closely (in cases like the NFL, as well as other sports) with other networks as well as the stadiums, all while needing to abide by our contracts.

It goes through many many revisions

And I didn't mean screwed up as in a mistake was made

I hope the league holds true and only schedules inter-divisional games in weeks 16 and 17. That might keep us from having that Colts-Jets fiasco like last year.

I think it would be cool if the Redskins played the Eagles on week one maybe as the first Monday night game of the season.

The NFL is also trying to work in all division games at the end of the season as per the competition committee's report to make the end of season games more meaningful.
I think they had to start all over again from scratch at the owner's meeting because they want to reduce teams giving games away in the final weeks.

Im pretty sure you dont have to schedule around the 100 people that show up for an Orioles game.

The Orioles won't ever be playing past September anyways. They'll be in the way for 2 weeks tops if the Ravens are at home for the first few weeks of the season.

It's not the Orioles you have to worry about in B-More, it's the thugs in gangs and some of their cops who behave like thugs in gangs.

Stay near the harbor and out of the porn district and you'll be fine. I made the mistake of parking there once... :D

i understand. trying to figure out a way to put more than 6 regular season redskins games in primetime is difficult work.

i'd settle for 4 primetime redskins games and 12 4PM games.

with shanahan and mcnabb, we should atleast get 3 primetimers and 5 4PM games... that would limit me having to go to a sportsbar to watch gams to only 8.
