There are concerns about Williams' work ethic and commitment to improving his game. However, the reward could be well worth the risk. He's the most naturally gifted tackle in this draft. Go Skins! It seems a lot of teams 'won' in the draft.

I'm surprised that our two most obscure prospects (Austin and Morris) had formal in-depth highlight reels |

Good work D-Bag. Amazing how our late picks have 3+ min highlight tapes.

I know right. Well technically Cook is a game tape against an average opponent (that beat the Lobos), but luckily he's pretty easy to find. He's the huge white guy (6'6) snapping the ball in case anyone else is interested. Also much thanks goes to the people who posted the videos in the draft thread and the RideOrDie who found the Riley video. |
Re: Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis
I wish that we had gotten a dynamic new tailback. I was hoping that we could grab McKnight or Dixon to knock one of the Galloping Geriatrics off of the roster.
Otherwise I think the FO did a pretty good job. |

Yeah, especially finding Morris tape, because this kid regularly pancakes a defender and he could easily replace Sellers at FB next yr. |

So that being said does anyone know why the fuck we'd even draft a tight and if so why not last? Why not O-line 1st then the rest? |
Re: Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis
Good job considering we had 5-6 picks. I love the Williams pick, the other guys may or may not make this team. Glad jc got his chance to play elsewhere. Honestly we had the best 2nd round pick this yr (mcnabb) lol so I'm happy. Maybe bring in another wr, maybe not we will see. I guess big al and Rogers are staying put.

Re: Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis
That's good work Dirtbag. Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

We didn't retain Todd Yoder leaving a need for a blocking TE. This guy is not only athletic but he loves to block, and from the looks of his highlight film he's good at it. On top of that he will not just play TE but also FB and Special Teams. He should actually be pretty effective blocking on kick offs. Also considering the fact that we ended up with two lineman afterwards that I was interested in I have no problem with this pick. In fact I like it. The thing I didn't like about it though was the fact that they drafted a similar player last year in Eddie Williams (TE/FB Idaho) in that they found a small school TE that they intended to convert to Fullback, but the main difference between the two is that Morris is much more physical. On a side note I'm starting to think that this year the team won't have any 2010 UDFA's on the final roster. |
Re: Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis
I like our 6th & 7th round picks.
Morris - A FB with good hands should be huge in the MS/KS offense, especially in short yardage/+10-GL situations. Austin - Will hep our return game. 2nd team All-PAC 10 kick returner. Cook - versatile depth for OL can play all 3 line positions. Good size at 318, but physically limited and weak (19 reps). Capers - excellent value in the 7th. Good speed, quickness. Good T depth and will push Heyer at RT. Also weak up top (19 reps). I know the Zone Blocking scheme values speed/quickness over strength, but either the FO/coaching staff has great confidence in our strength & conditioning team, or these guys just don't care how strong O-linemen are. The guys we drafted late are below average in the upper body (with Williams being about average). |

great break down db, you have been all over the draft

What can I say, I love the draft. This is like Christmas for me. I think that this is the first time I've been able to spend the whole draft on thewarpath since I couldn't make it home to Atlanta and fortunately a lot of you guys helped fill the void. Of course this is the best draft that's come along in a while mainly because we didn't have to worry about seeing this afterwards: [YT]NN6-HtAVW4Y[/YT] |
Re: Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis
This draft helped me to realize not to make judgments until you have seen the whole body of work.
At the time of the Morris pick, I was pretty down that a WR and OL were being addressed. Now seeing the complete body of work, I would grade this a B. I feel there is only one true starter as of right now(Williams), but there is potential for 3 more guys to start later this year or by 2011(Riley, Morris, & Capers). Austin is basically the same size as Dexter Jackson. I think 175 is a tad under weight, but Steve Smith is only 185 and two inches shorter. I am sure he will fill out some, and could hopefully add a spark to the return game. Cook is a big dude, and has played all over the line. Versatile olinemen is a lesson learned the hard way last year, and even though we have new coaches, they got the memo. If not, they were only 7th rounders. |
Re: Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis
I know 19 reps could be called weak up top, but these guys have some thick legs.

But movign him to FB i can def see a place for him. he's got great hands, he's tough to bring down and most of all he's an AGGRESSIVE blocker. You want those players that are hungry and that kid looks hungry! Mike Sellers wont last forever. Maybe Morris can fill in like a peyton hillis type of shanahans past. I was suprised we didnt see us pick a RB. And now with S. Johnson goin to the Titans and Blount goin to the 49ers im kinda worried that shanahan IS ok goin into the season with portis, johnson, and parker. But the day is not over yet. |
Re: Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis
What I liked most about this years draft, is that the FO addressed the OL which was way overdue. Also, I like the restrain on trading players like McIntosh, Carter, Haynesworth, Rogers, etc. We wouldn't have gotten fair value and they knew it, kudos for doing all the right things!! No RB were drafted and I'm sure they feel that we have some serious depth and they must feel Alridge can contribute.

Re: Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis
Dennis Morris is nasty. I do not think it would be a stretch to say we will probably have one of, if not the, best TE groups in the league next year.
|
Re: Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis
Allen salvaged the draft in the last day for sure. At least we addressed needs and seemed to shore up our O line nicely. Wish Austin was a bigger guy though.
|
Re: Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis
Thanks DirtBag good work on the writeups...I'm passing no judgement on this draft because I will trust the work of Shanahan/Allen that they took the players that will most help the team be successful...Williams/Capers will likely be our LT/RT this year.

Dennis Morris does look like a beast in his video. I just hope he can do it at the next level.

I feel bad for the Jag and Bills fans. They have to go out of their way to defend their front office decision makers and convince themselves that they know what they're doing. And while it is most likely that GM's forget more in a day then a fan learns in a lifetime the fact remains that they don't always make good decisions and sometimes thats obvious even to the fans. No one wants to invest a bunch of time following their team in the offseason and feel like the their GM doesn't know what he's doing but unfortunately sometimes you don't get much of a choice. |

I am not as down on him as some, I would actually argue that his draft record wasn't that bad. However, the radio show, the moronic comments, the goofy laugh, the trbl picks thrown away on castaways...when you add it all up, he just isn't the guy who you want making critical decisions. |

Eddie Williams was injuired when we drafted him so that hurt his chances of making the team. If we can use him as a FB or H-back I think we may have found a diamond in the ruff. |

The WR Austin is from the same High School as Desean Jackson Long Beach Poly. He is simular is size as Desean Jackson and Austin does have nice speed. Who knows he could be our KR/PR and slot WR in a few years. He from Long Beach CA so I know he is a baller. Dont be surprised he maybe a playmaker in the return game we have been looking for. Good Job Bruce/ Shanny and Scouts....... |

No kidding. Looking at those videos and you wonder why the guy wasn't a first round pick. I don't know why the comments say he isn't much of a run blocker -- he was knocking helmets off and blowing people off the line. He won't get much playing time on offense behind Cooley and Davis though. Look for him mainly on special teams I guess. |
Re: Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis
Picks I liked:
Trent Williams: Needed to be done and he will be better than okung IMO. Terrence Austin: If he makes the team we could have out Special Teams sorted out. Selvish Capers: Good late round pick, hopefully he rises to the occasion. Not Sure: Perry Riley: Here I was hoping for us to take Bruce Campbell but if we lose McIntosh for a pick it makes sense. Dislike: (For Now) Dennis Morris: Unless there is something we dont know about Cooley or Davis, this was a pick that makes no sense. Eric Cook: This would have been better as Snead or Blount at this point. I thought Blount would have actually done well in washington. |
Re: Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis
^ Look at the YouTube breakdown of Dennis Morris -- you'll change your mind about him.
I wondered about his playing time too, with Cooley and Davis already firmly in place. But he'll be in the FB position, backing up Mike Sellers, and might be stealing playing time from him. |
Re: Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis
Here is how I look at our 2010 draft:
Round 1. Trent Williams Round 2. Donovan McNabb Round 3. Jeremy Jarmon Round 5. Perry Riley Round 5. Adam Carriker Round 6. Dennis Morris Round 7. Terrence Austin Round 7. Erik Cook Round 7. Selvish Capers Given what they had to work with, I think they did well. |
Re: Redskins 2010 Draft Class with Analysis
Okay, I know that it is just a highlight reel but Dennis Morris looks absolutely terrific!! What blocking, it would be great if he turns out to be a late-round gem

Another thing we have to give credit for is the secrecy and deception with which they were able to cloak their actual intentions. I heard several analysts and an interview with one GM who all said they had no idea which way we were going to go with the 4th overall pick. |
