Mike Shanahan Recaps the Draft
Read this and tell me you aren't excited about the season.
Mike Shanahan Recaps The Draft
[Mike Shanahan at FedEx after the draft]... "I'm proud to be your head football coach," Shanahan continued, "and I'll tell you what: to sit back and have the opportunity with all the tradition, all the Super Bowls, and the things that've been accomplished here, I feel very, very excited to come in here, put a new coaching staff together, obviously go through a minicamp, and we've got one goal and we've got it together, and that's to win a Super Bowl. And we will get it done. "To make a statement like that, you have to have a lot of things going for you. We've got a great owner that gives me every chance to do the things that a head coach needs to do to be successful, and that's where it starts. And one of the reasons why I'm your head coach is I believe that I have a person that'll give me every opportunity to do the things that we need to do to be successful. "So keep your fingers crossed. It's a long process, a lot of hard work, but again: thank you for being here. I'm excited to play the first game here against that Dallas Cowboys --" The crowd interrupted at this point for extended cheering, and chants of "We Want Dallas!" Shanahan chuckled before continuing. "You know, we got a little work to do before we play Dallas, but I guarantee you one thing: I'm looking forward to it just like you are. Again, thanks for being here, thanks for supporting us, and hail to the Redskins!"
This guy gets it. He understands how to talk to the crowd, how to field a competitive team, and what the team's goals are. Reading the whole blog from Matt Terl, all I could say was... "Hell Yeah!" |
Re: Mike Shanahan Recaps the Draft
hell yeah!
|
Re: Mike Shanahan Recaps the Draft
Yeah!! CRR that's good stuff, the video of his speech to the crowd is also available on the teams website. I'm impressed with the possibilities of what he'll be able to accomplish here before he's done. This is just the beginning, it's going to be interesting to see just how soon he'll be able to make all the different pieces come together as a team in hopes of reaching that ultimate goal.......Gotta have faith!!

Re: Mike Shanahan Recaps the Draft

Probably not, Morris will lay down opposing RB's. He is a beast and it makes perfect sense. |
Re: Mike Shanahan Recaps the Draft
i thought they were converting jarmon to an OLB? shanny says he gives us depth at DE, so which is it?

I took it that Shanny misspoke on that one...but we will see. |

Maybe we'll ask him to bulk up? But yeah I see him as more of a 3-4 OLB (Jarmon). Although I think Carriker and AH will make a good DE tandem. I just hope Kemo gets healthy or one of the other NT we brought in work out. |

We can give him a pass on that one, not quite as bad as Zorn not knowing the team colors. |
Re: Mike Shanahan Recaps the Draft
Seems to have a better grasp of Redskins tradition than his predecessor, who infamously expressed pleasure to be continuing the legacy of the "maroon and black." Still, it's not that hard to fire up a Skins crowd: talk about the 1980's, say the future is going to be like the 1980's, watch rapture ensue.

^^ Did something happen in the 1980's??

Yeah, "Miami Vice" was on tv and Michael Jackson was a "Thriller." :) |

I don't know?...... it was sooo long ago...... I can remember being extremely happy, confetti, parades..... I can't remember. |
Re: Mike Shanahan Recaps the Draft
I think I remember points being scored.... lots of them on occasion.

Re: Mike Shanahan Recaps the Draft
You guys do realize that Zorn gave a very similar speech the training camp before he was fired right?
Every coach will say the right things to the public so take what he says with a grain of salt. Based on the fact that we were 4-12 last year and have one of the most difficult schedules in the NFL, anything more than 6-10/7-9 is a little unrealistic. |

And Shanahan knows to end with Hail to the Redskins. But Zorn's speeches were always more medium. When he spoke of the SB it was not as We will get it done, as much as that's the end goal of every team. I would say the tone, and tenor of a Zorn speech and a Shanahan speech are diametrically opposed. |

I completely agree Rbanerjee.. People always get excited each time this season, and like to forget the past, especially a 4-12 season. I'd say we were equally as hopeful and excited after Zorn's hire, Gibb's hire, Schottenheimer, etc... We always have fallen behind them because -- we have no choice, and we'd always like to think that the moves will take us to the next level.. As someone pointed out - we made the SAME picks in last years draft!! A LB, TE and WR. This time we added two late-round almost undrafted offensive linemen.. Anyway, I still do believe they are running things well, and I sense that there is a good plan and SMART front office moves and RESPECT in the locker room. |
Re: Mike Shanahan Recaps the Draft
But I do think we'll be better than 7-9. I predict 9-7 with McNabb. I think he alone will bring the x-factor that can make our O-line & WR better.
