The "almost" Times Square Bomb
Surprised nobody heard/posted about this.
NYPD: Video has possible SUV bomb suspect in alley - Yahoo! News Luckily nobody was hurt. Could only imagine the destruction there would've been if that bomb had detonated. |
Re: The "almost" Times Square Bomb
I wonder if they found any Glenn Beck or Bill O'Reilly CDs in there.

Probably not, because then they would've been parked outside of the White House. But all jokes aside, whoever this dude is obviously a nut. Hopefully they find him and lock him up very soon. |

Dude stop stealing Saden'ss lines. You're not the resident liberal. Lol. As to why this wasn't posted, well I guess you need an actual bang to get peoples attention. The incidents where something good ends up happening (ie New Yorkers working together to prevent an accident) don't get nearly as much screen time. Plus by all accounts this was put together by an idiot, not a well connected terrorist. The fact that it failed as hard as it did is a testament to that. |
Re: The "almost" Times Square Bomb
MSN posted it, but it wasn't a main headline when I first saw it.

Re: The "almost" Times Square Bomb
As someone who is in Times Square a lot, and whose wife passes by there almost every day...this is scary stuff. I'm glad nothing happened and I hope the suspect is caught soon

If you work anywhere near any major city you are not safe. I almost want to say places like Times Square may even be a bit safer, have to think there is add security there. The person probaly have more luck in a less of a "hot spot" area. |

Time Square is not safer because they cannot serch ever veh. that enters the city so its only a matter of time until someone pulls in with a truck blows the hell out of a place like time sq. |

That's idiotic. I hope you're just attempting a bad joke. Interestingly enough, it was parked outside Viacom, where they product offensive garbage like South Park and MTV. It it was a Muslim who did this (it usually is), they're probably mad about some Mohammed jokes on a cartoon. As we saw with the rioting and murders all over Europe a few years ago, a simple comic strip can send millions of them them into riots and killing sprees. Ahem... I didn't even know that. I don't watch it, never will. I just know they're constantly out to offend everyone whether they carry Bibles or bombs. Someday, it could really backfire on them. |

Re: The "almost" Times Square Bomb
that's a weird thing to get offended to. So when you buy a newspaper you don't want ads in the A section, or when you watch the 10 oclock news they shouldn't put teasers before ads?
That is going to be a popular link, hence good ad space. (not as good as a truck though;)) |

I don't watch it very often and when I did I thought I was watching reruns thinking they did't still produce the show. Then I'm sitting there watching it and the topic was current and I kind of laughed at myself. |

Re: The "almost" Times Square Bomb
Back to the attempt, I wonder if he planned on being a suicide bomber, and when it did not go as planned he tried to get out of town; or if he was trying to avoid the blast altogether. If the vehicle had blown up, finding the VIN of the specific vehicle would have been a humongous undertaking. Assuming this guy is the right guy, then good job piecing it all together that quickly.

Re: The "almost" Times Square Bomb
So how did this guy manage to get on the plane when he was on the no-fly list? Apparently the carrier or airport didn't have an updated list? He bought a one way ticket to Pakistan with cash... isn't a transaction like that supposed to set off all sorts of red flags??
Just glad they caught the guy. |
Re: The "almost" Times Square Bomb
Here is one scenario, still doesn't explain the getting on the actual plane though: The FBI/Homeland Security had the airport wanted him to go through security so that they knew he had no explosives or weapons etc.
Of course if Jack Bauer had been in charge (and it wasn't the last episode) he would have gotten on the plane as Jack was running through the airport yelling "Turn that plane around NOW"! I love 24, and imagine that this investigation was done at nearly as hectic a pace as that show runs at. |

Re: The "almost" Times Square Bomb
8.5 years later and we're still getting our shit together. to think most of us have dealt with all the "inconveniences" of extra security and yet it seems some of the basics aren't getting done. like that xmas underwear bomber guy. didn't his DAD call the freakin Feds to say he thought his son would do something? meanwhile they're makin my 80-year-old father inlaw throw away his shaving cream.

Well as is always the case, if someone is intent on doing something evil, and is willing to sacrifice his/her life, it is very difficult to stop them. I fly a couple times a year, and it's amazing how quickly people got used to taking off belts, shoes etc. |

First of all, grow up and stop pretending to be like your heroes on the Comedy News Network with the immature, offensive name calling. Pretty much all of the major media and a lot of politicians don't want to admit it's a Muslim. A lady on NBC actually said on the air she's disappointed that this wasn't another white Timothy McVeigh because it only makes people racist for thinking of Muslims when terrorist attacks occur. What kind of insane, twisted thinking is that? Wishing there are more McVeighs? Wake up...they've been attacking us since the late 1970s. There's more than a trend, there's an all-out war to kill you and I. They won't let one of us go because we pretend we support them and stand up for their "rights"...they'll kill you and me without caring...because we're Americans. All of the "tolerance" and "understanding" in the world won't spare you. This Administration's "terrorists have rights too, lets read them their rights and allow them to be silent and get a lawyer after trying to murder hundreds or thousands of Americans" views are going to get us all killed. There are 3 legal exceptions to the Miranda Rights, one being PUBLIC SAFETY. Even if this terrorist was a legal citizen, we don't need to treat them like they are a bank robber...they're trying to kill Americans in mass. Get info out of them, care about their feelings later. This is now 2 attempted attacks in a row that the process was botched in favor of the terrorist. |
