Here is, I think, a good write up of IPhone4 vs android. This really could be the best tech battle in a while, as both are trying to win that goto spot. I am surprised Microsoft just seems to be lost.

one commenter summed it up(i am sure with an android bias):

Missing

OK, so:
iPhone: 5 megapixel camera
EVO: 8 megapixel camera

iPhone: 720p video recording
EVO: 720p video recording

iPhone: No HDMI out
EVO: HDMI out

iPhone: video chat wifi ONLY with another iPhone 4
EVO: video chat (no only's)

iPhone: no expandable memory
EVO: expandable memory

iPhone: screen 3.5"
EVO: screen 4.3"

iPhone: 3g (with crappy network)
EVO: 4g

I'm sure there's more but I'm tired of being right. One thing iPhone's got: It's pretty.[/QUOTE]

I'm currently strongly thinking about dumping my 3G iPhone for one of the android based phones. Same price, more features, better service. Trying to figure out where the iPhone wins...

Plus the flash thing pisses me off.

I plan to buy one at Radioshack once they have supplies. I'll get a $100 trade-in credit for my 3G there ($200 for 3G-S). Not going to waste time today in line, but I'm excited to eventually have one in the next week or two. I'm most excited for a speed upgrade since I never got the 3G-S.

I'm currently still using the EnV Touch (not eligible for an upgrade till next spring and I'm not willing to shell out $400 for a phone) and thank god there's a QWERTY keyboard along with the touch screen, because the touch screen stops working all.the.frickin.time.

I'm currently on my 3rd refurbished phone. Right now I'm dealing with how the phone restarts on its own. I swear if I have to bitch at Verizon for a 4th phone I'm gonna demand them just give me another phone of equal or lesser value. Going through 4 phones in a little over a year is frickin ridiculous.

Well, with the Skype app and the two way camera, you can in fact skype fro the iPhone4.

A co-worker actually got his phone a day early (yesterday), and activated it right away. There are a few cool features that the iPhone3GS (what I have) doesn't have, but I'm not eligible for an upgrade until December, and I'm not rushing out to buy it. Running multiple apps is cool, having folders for apps is cool, and the camera/video is much improved. Other than that, it's really no big deal.

The Otter Box case is pretty cool. My wife has one b/c she's way more careless with her iPhone than I am. I think the case is fantastic for protecting the phone, but it's so bulky. I have a case on my iPhone, but it's sleek enough to fit in my pocket. The Otter Box is not.

Anyway, as someone who has already handled and played with the new iPhone- It's definitely an improvement, but not significant enough for any 3GS owners to upgrade before they're eligible. Trust me on that one.

I went from a touch screen palm back to a winmo non touch. I swore I would NEVER get a non touch screen phone again. The convenience difference in my mind is like DOS to Windows. I do agree with DRave, you have to at least have the option of a slide out qwerty keyboard for long texts.

yeah the otter box case i have is a little irritating to get out in a hurry but i can deal with it. it would be pretty easy if i used the holster but i don't think i could rock the holster, maybe a fanny pack but no holster. i swear i could throw the phone into a wall and it would be fine. it's weird taking it out of the case or using my fiancee's curve cause it doesn't even feel like the same phone

I would've bought a Droid by now but because of the type of work I do I wouldn't want to have it anywhere near where I work haha. Too often I get chemical on my pants/pocket and my Voyager has a cracked screen because sometimes a lot of pressure gets put on my pockets and that's how it ended up cracked. I wouldn't want to risk that with a nice ass phone like the Droid or the Iphone coming to Verizon in January.

I have the 3GS iPhone, and I recently upgraded the software to 4.0 OS. Pretty cool features. I REALLY like that you run other apps with Pandora playing, and being able to create folders for apps definitely cuts down on clutter. And of course you can now have your apps sitting on top of your background pictures.

I LOVE the camera/camcorder functionality of the new 4G. Apparently Apple got some guys from Canon to come design it.

I hear the 4GS comes out around Christmas time, which is right when I'm eligible for an upgrade. So I'll wait until then.

Eh. I've played with the droid. It's nice, but not all that. And the stock camera with the droid isn't anything close to what the iPhone 4G brings. Droid is a nice phone, especially the 2nd generation that recently came out. But I'd still prefer the functionality of the iPhone. Mac just does it better. And I say that as I type this post from a PC.

GMScud, couldn't disagree more. I currently have an iPhone -- but Apple is behind the curve with technology. The 4G comes with a bunch of stuff android based phones have had for some time. I know people dropping the iPhone like crazy in favor for other smart phones. There's a reason Apple losses market share every quarter.

Apple has a way of marketing their products that develops blind loyalty. Heck for my son's birthday he wanted an ipod Nano. I swear we had the same conversation as the two bears!

SON- "is it a ipod",
ME- no,
SON- "then i don't want it",
ME- but it plays songs, has more memory,
SON- "can i get it in green",
ME- no but you can get a case,
SON- "so is it an ipod",
ME-(shaking my head) no, ipod is just a marketing name,
SON- "ok dad so can i get the nano"

seriously, had this conversation in best buy, and wanted to go off on my own son like the evo sales bear did. Of course I didn't but geez how does Apple get into his head and he is only 11???

It is just like fashion, same reason they have to wear a Holster shirt vs. a Wal Mart.

I remember when I was younger we skied a ot and I always had to have a CB jacket, they were super expensive and did nothing different then a non-CB jacket but I had to have it cause it was cool.

Daseal 07-02-2010 09:47 AM

Re: iPhone 4

Matty -- I don't think so. While AT&T isn't the most stellar carrier ever, a lot of the people leaving cite the phone far more often than AT&T. After using the N1 and Evo -- they destroy the iPhone 4 on many levels. To each their own, but I just hate that Apple could release anything and people buy it without comparing it to other products. The iPhone was pretty revolutionary at the time, but it has since slipped towards the middle of the pack as far as performance and features.

MTK 07-02-2010 10:00 AM

Daseal 07-02-2010 10:16 AM

Re: iPhone 4

It will increase their market share, sure. Never said it wouldn't. However the more time that goes on, the more I see people jumping off the iPhone bandwagon. I'm saying the people that are dumping their iPhones now aren't doing it because of AT&T, they're doing it because of better phones.
