Warpath Q&A with Redskins safety Reed Doughty

Reed Doughty has graciously agreed to do a Q&A with us.

Post your questions here and I'll fire them off to Reed by the end of the week.

Is this Reed Doughty? Is this me? Tell Reed I think he's better than that grilled cheese sandwich.

Awesome. This will be a great Q&A

How is the transition coming with the switch to the 3-4?

How do you like the defensive approach?

Are we employing a hybrid 3-4, 4-3 combo?

Re: Warpath Q&A with Redskins safety Reed Doughty

Reed how much or what percent do you see the 4-3 being used this year? Also, How are all the players adjusting to their new roles compared to last year?

Thanks for your time and knock'em dead this year.

I'll ask the hated question!

Will Albert Haynesworth still be with the Redskins this season?

Thanks in advance.

Go Reed!

Do you see yourself playing strong safety or free safety this year? Does that difference matter to you?

Re: Warpath Q&A with Redskins safety Reed Doughty

Recently some of The Greats who help make this franchise what is have been asked to be a part of the teams rebirth. How do the current players feel about having them back?

Is there any one former player that you connected with that you never met before and what was the connection?

Great questions warpaint.

Your press conference with the media following Sean Taylor's death still gets to me, especially toward the end when you choked up and said "it's real" What sort of pressure did you feel stepping into his starting spot?

What was the most valuable lesson you learned from playing under Joe Gibbs? How about Jim Zorn?

Love the question about ST Smoot.

Re: Warpath Q&A with Redskins safety Reed Doughty

I'll try to phrase this correctly lol.

What was it like in the most pressure packed moment of your career so far? Was it knowing "the turk" passed you by and you made the final roster in your rookie season, was it a goal line stand on 4th down at the end of a game with the playoffs on the line, etc. etc.

Or if you prefer to answer this go ahead. Describe the unity and sense of "bonding" and trust that you and the 10 other guys on the field share knowing that your unit is the only thing standing between the opposing teams' offense and 6 points?

Re: Warpath Q&A with Redskins safety Reed Doughty

Has your hand healed up yet and will you be 100% for the season opener?

How hard is it for you being hearing impaired and keeping your job while others have the advantage of hearing signal calls while you seem to stay on the field?

How do the coaches and your teammates keep you up to date especially with the new changes going on ( hearing wise)?

You are what makes us fans appreciate what you guys do and thats why we have unconitional love for the team so thank you.

Mr. Doughty, I'd like to know what the major differences are in the offseason programs that you've experienced with each coach. Also, has there been anything new that you hadn't experienced or had been mostly neglected in previous years?

Thank you,

I just feel that any insight we can get from a current player is what we all live for.

Hopefully Reed can go back and tell the rest of the players that we (as a website) are informed and passionate. Maybe more current and former players will want to be involved with the their fans, fans that have rooted for them through thick and thin and love them unconditionally.

I actually want to piggy back from that question and ask... What did you learn from Sean Taylor when you played behind him, during his last couple years with the Redskins?

How is his son doing with the new kidney? Also, if Reed grew up in Colorado, was he a Broncos fan? If so, how does it feel to be playing for Shanahan?

Re: Warpath Q&A with Redskins safety Reed Doughty

Reed, what are your thoughts on Chris Horton's progress? He started out red hot in 2008 before losing the starting spot back to you and being injured late last year...I know it might be awkward to speak about the guy trying to take your spot, but what are your thoughts on his progression as a player and his future in Washington?

Yes, definitely. Can't believe I forgot to ask about Micah.

Re: Warpath Q&A with Redskins safety Reed Doughty

Reed:

It seems to me the Haslett philosophy is to be the aggressor (defense vs. offense) so that ideally the offense starts to react to the defense rather than the other way around. Am I correct w/ this? And do you feel this defense has more potential than the other groups through your tenure w/ the Skins?

P.S. Thanks for being such a great team guy and a high character guy :) God bless you and your family!

Hey Reed!

Who is more likely to force you to take an extra half step back in coverage because of the unique stress that these type of players present?

A) An elite top five WR

or

B) An elite top five QB

Thanks again and have a great year!

Dear Reed.

I would be very happy if you could blast Romo in the chops with your shoulder, either that or intercept him again. You better from that by the way? How's the hand?

I believe your a better player than Landry, who I would trade to Buffalo for a grilled cheese sandwich. You can tell him and his stupid monkey I said that too.

Do you have a special system set up with London because of your hearing? How does that work out?

Will you play special teams this year? I still remember you blasting ole boy that one time.

How do you feel about the tender? I'm glad they want you on the team. I hope they pay you some good money! You, and guys like Fletch and Rocky are the my kind of players.

How does the wife and kid like the new house or are y'all finished with it yet?

Good luck this season. I hope you get some good kills.

What's your favorite type of pie (thank you WilsoWilso for reminding me about this standard question)

If you could line up next to any other safety in the history of the league, who would that be?

If you weren't playing football, what would you be doing?

Reed,
You are a character guy and you have a tremendous work ethic. I commend this and want to thank you for your hard work on and off the field...
With the Haynesworth situation, do you see the defense uniting and working that much harder to distance yourselves from the stigma that he has brought or is it pretty much business as usual?
I know you a have a full plate with the Redskins and your family. When you do get solo time, how do you prefer to spend it? Any hobbies or activities you enjoy?

Reed,

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? You have to say it very fast to give a good answer.

And also, are you liking the switch to the 3-4 from a safeties standpoint or from what you have seen do you think you personally would have rather stayed in the 4-3?

Thanks, You're awesome!

And another blast from the past... Reed, do you know the answer to Question 3?

Also, what would you say is the biggest deference from Gregg Williams to Greg Blache to Jim Haslett?

Whats your take on the offense is there a nice flow starting to build or is it still a learning process?

Hello Reed,
What would you like to do when your professional football career is over?

Who were your favorite athletes growing up?

Which Redskin will have a break out year under Shanahan?

Do you have any personal goals for the season?
