McCants adds some spark

Alright all you D-Mac fans out there, show your boy some love!

McCants finally got some significant playing time in Sunday's game, coming in toward the end of the 3rd quarter, and looked to be a guy that Ramsey trusts to get open and catch the ball-- which probably has a lot to do with the two of them running plays on the scout team together all season. McCants caught two passes for 46 yards, including a team-best 27-yarder.

After the game, Gibbs said McCants has been practicing well, and will likely get more playing time from here on out.

With Ramsey perhaps being the starter now, how do you like McCants' prospects of moving up the depth chart?

MTK 11-15-2004 10:52 AM

Ramsey definitely seems to have a connection with McCants going back to last season.

He's a big target with deceptive speed. It's good to see that he's finally starting to break through and earn some playing time.

Redskins_P 11-15-2004 11:32 AM

McCants finally stepped up in practice and got some playing time. I guess he must of heard Gibbs talking about how much practice means to him.

Taylor Jacobs also had some good catches in the game. Now the question is, how many receivers are going to play on Sunday? Do we inactivate a TE?

Also, get ready for the "Bench Gardner, Trade Gardner" threads....

SUNRA 11-15-2004 11:45 AM

Oh Yeah, McCants is the man!

I like Taylor Jacobs and Thrash but McCants is a big play maker. I have supported his career as a Redskin and I think it was a bad decision on Coach Gibbs's part not to place Barrow on IR a long time ago in order for McCants to play. When I saw McCants make the first catch, I thought T.O. had switched teams because he was wide open across the middle. Then he showed us he can do it again. I don't know about you guys, but someone needs to ride the bench as a WR. Take your pick. I am sick of watching Coles and Gardner struggle to separate from the defenders and catch balls. One or two weeks of good coverage is one thing but Coles is not living up to his billing as a 1# wideout. That being said, Gibbs has already stated that McCants will get more time in the future.

rickmmrr 11-15-2004 11:47 AM

It was great to see McCants playing in the game.

D-Mac Baby!! Red Zone threat!!

No we place Barrow's behind on IR and see him next year. McCants probably hasn't done anything different in practice. I think it was more of a decision to try him out after the poor and I mean poor performances of our 1# and 2# wideouts. If we have to deactivate anybody, it would have to be TE Kozlowski. Chris Cooley leads this team in TD's. Why isn't he getting more play? Why wait until we're down to put these guys in?

MTK 11-15-2004 11:53 AM

Putting Barrow on IR isn't going to have any effect on getting McCants on to the active roster.

If he goes on IR we can add a player to the active roster to take his place, but it doesn't change the amount of players you can have active for a game.

OMG! I can't believe i saw d mac in the game. We've been calling for him to get some action all season long and now him and p ram enter in the same game. i was doing sumersalts in my living room. this was the BEST loss i've ever been associated with. i think we have a chance against the eagles now...

Gmanc711 11-15-2004 12:21 PM

Does anyone think that because they proboly practiced together on the good ol' scout team, they might have a good timing down?

diehardskin2982 11-15-2004 12:23 PM

lets not go to far with benching gardner, the guy has been showing his ass this year in a crappy offense. we need more character and tenacity out of the oline to make this season get better

JWsleep 11-15-2004 01:22 PM

D-mac plays well in games. Gibbs said as much in his press conference. He should get more time, though I'm not sure where the room will come from. Anything to help Ramsey at this point.

Skins4SB 11-15-2004 01:24 PM

Coles has that broken toe and had a dislocated finger earlier in the season. I don't expect him to be in his Pro Bowl form till next season.

ChounsMan 11-15-2004 01:58 PM

Mccants is special. I said I wanted him activated & some here told me that it would not make much difference. I think he's one of those special guys on offense. He may not be a good special teamer & may not be a great guy in practice, but he's blessed with ability. Gibbs needs to see this & just start this kid the rest of the season.

Redskins_P 11-15-2004 02:03 PM

it wouldn't have made much difference because Brunell was still the QB...

skin4Life28 11-15-2004 02:17 PM

Since Brunell's passes were so terrible. D-Mac would at least be able to go and get them. Oh, wait never mind they were always in the ground or out of bounds.

SkinsRock 11-15-2004 03:16 PM

It was wonderful to see D-mac out there. First I was thrilled to see Ramsey, then he completes a pass to #85 and I couldn't believe it! Then another. And now Gibbs says he'll get more playing time. :biggthump
:headbange

skinsguy 11-15-2004 03:23 PM

Anything at this point to add a spark! I always liked McCants and I hope he DOES get more playing time.

BossHog 11-15-2004 04:52 PM

First of all, Gibbs lied if he said that. The reson McCants was activated is because the other WRs he 'believed' in were dropping the ball and the fans and media have been chewing his butt for having him inactive for so long. I guess Ramsey was practicing well all weekk too, huh? Man up, Gibbs. You're still learning what some guys on your own team can and cannot do in a real game!? Gardner is gone after the season ends.

redsk1 11-15-2004 04:57 PM

Keep McCants in there. He catches the ball! Our other WR's can't catch. How many drops were there yesterday??? Big playmaker!

That Guy 11-15-2004 05:12 PM

brunell liked throwing the gardner, ramsey's always liked throwing to coles and mccants... still not sure we got a shot on the eagles though... and barrow has never been on the 45 man active game day roster... shoving him on IR won't do anything to help mccants get in games... cooley is a great pass catcher, but kol is still a better blocker at this point, and williams loves using 200 players on D, that's whats sucking out some of the active spots... though with our injuries, i'm not sure we even have 45 people that can even play next week.

Redskins8588 11-15-2004 06:20 PM

McCants should drop the "t" in his last name, so it would be McCans!!! We dont need more negativity, but all joking aside I was glad to see him in there. I was also suprised to see how many balls were being thrown to Coles when Ramsy was in there.

IMO I think that Gibbs made the right move. Yeah I know that we have the eagals, steelers, Giants, and Philly all in a row, but really would any one of us feel comfortable with Brunell under center?? Atleast now I really believ that we have a chance against these teams.

skinsguy 11-15-2004 06:36 PM

I think Gibbs is starting to realize that the post season might be too much to ask for this season and realizes that now is the time to take a look at the other players and see who wants to play. I don't think Gardner is going to be in Washington next year..just MO. I think Thrash has worked extremely hard to earn a spot in the WR line-up! Coles needs to be healthy, because I think the other receivers will challenge him next year. Maybe right now the line-up should be Coles, McCants, and Thrash.

Redskins8588 11-15-2004 06:56 PM

I would not automaticly put McCants in the line up as our 2nd reciever, even if Gardner isn't gonna be here next year. Don't forget that we still have a very young and very talented reciever in Jacobs. I still think that he is holding his own. I want to see him more on the field.

At this point in the game, this is an audition for next year. Jacobs has played well on special teams but the offense needs a WR who can make an immediate immpression in McCants. Jacobs can not drop the passes he dropped against the Bengals. On the real, I have not been happy with the play of Coles as the 1# receiver at all. As a 1# WR he is suppose to get open at any cost. I remember only one occassion when Coles got in front of the CB and Ramsey underthrew the ball to the CB for a INT.

Redskins8588 11-15-2004 11:49 PM

Yeah Jacobs did drop a gimme yesterday, but if I remember correctly he was cutting across the middle on that play. Not that I am making excues for him but given his speed I dont think that was a play talyored for him, if you know what I am trying to say. I mean if his is built like McCants or Gardner ok they are bigger more phisical recievers, where at guys like Coles and Jacobs should be your field strechers. But you are right I did see him drop some easy ones, but then again so has all our other recievers.
