Tailgaters I need help!

Hopefully someone can help me out because I really have no where to start.

Since we got our season tickets we started tailgating a lot, we started with a little grill, but it just doesn't do everything we want, plus we tend to meet up with friends so we need something bigger.

I'm looking for either a website or store in the D.C area that sells the Grills as well as the hitch / holder thing for it to sit on the back of a truck or SUV.

In case I'm not explaining it well enough, I'm looking for something like this:

We go to the games in an Excursion with a class V hitch so I don't know if that would be good enough information or what. I just have no idea where to start looking for such a thing. Also I'm not trying to go broke, I know some people spend thousands, but really I just want a decent sized grill to cook for about 6-10 people as well as the hitch thing.

Any help would be great.

Thanks!

We have a group of friends that tailgate near us that have a Party King, pretty bad mofos.

There is also a nice Coleman foldout, at one time they also had a pull behind. Available at Dicks, Home-Depot, Lowes, still see the grill at the stadium check online.

Re: Tailgaters I need help!

Yeah I was checking that site out earlier. Said person in family doesn't want to spend that much, IE the $500 one. I told them I really don't know then because seems like anything else would just be cheaply made IMO.

I really don't even know what they are looking for now except for something cheap. I mean a decent grill is at least $250 aren't they? Let alone the holder and hitch hookup.

Re: Tailgaters I need help!

The Coleman is a nice Tailgating/Camping grill for the cash. I haven't used this exact grill but they are all over the lots, but still have and use a Coleman grill when we Tailgate, some weeks we go inside and go to the Tailgate party. Not pull behind for whatever that matters if you have a SUV the way these grills fold up they take up little room in the truck and one less thing to worry about in the parking lot.

Might be worth checkin out on the cheap.

Good Luck

damn too bad you didn't ask earlier

macy's had the margaritaville one for 200 bucks

you can get a hitch nearly anywhere and most of the grills to be shipped are about 40-50

Haha, why do that! The Excursion is bigger :)

I mean I know we can get the hitch, I just don't want to be driving through D.C and having the thing fall off you know? The pops wants a like full one piece thing, but of course they are all like $500+ and he doesn't want to spend that much.

Seems easy and cheap to just make one yourself...

Also, I wouldn't necessarily want to drive around with it on the hitch. I would take it off when in motion.

I talked to a buddy last night, and his father got his just like the one in your first picture. He picked his up at Dick's Sporting Goods.

I would check Craigslist, you never know you might be able to find one on there.

I'm sure one could be fabbed up fairly easily. You could get some threaded metal pipe and plenty of bolts to attach it to a trailer hitch, or get the materials and have a metal shop do the final welds for you for a fraction of the price. Add some black paint and there you go.

Just don't drive with it attached. :D

One place you may want to look is a Tractor Supply store. They have a ton of hitches and accessories to attach to a truck. Perhaps you could find something that would work or make fabricating one easier.

hahaha.. it's not going to fall off

as far as I've seen the all-in-one kits are the same thing.. just a hitch and the fitting pipe.. I mean stuff like that is done by standards so it's not like you're going to have a hard time finding ones that match up

Re: Tailgaters I need help!

I was checking out the grill gator, gonna have to message them about whether it's charcoal or gas, couldn't find any information.

tryfuhl 07-06-2010 03:19 PM

Re: Tailgaters I need help!

Pretty big detail for them to leave out. Due to the smokestack up top I'm going to guess that it's charcoal, plus I don't see any propane fittings.

I'd think that you could have someone fabricate it for less but who knows.. looks like a quick bend and weld job by them

Re: Tailgaters I need help!

I have a Weber charcol grill we use and have a larger box I keep it in when going to and from the game. I cook before game and then dump the coals after the game and throw it back into its box. You have an Excursion so it height should not be an issue.

InsaneBoost 07-06-2010 09:44 PM

Re: Tailgaters I need help!

Yeah we like the gas, less mess plus we do a seafood boil which has a gas line so it's just easier to use gas. I was thinking it's charcoal too.

I'll keep looking around and check out local places, get a price zone, if not, just use the little small one we have now, just get their earlier.

Re: Tailgaters I need help!

If you are looking for one of those grills that ride on the back of your car, you should get one of those Margaritaville Tailgating Grills. being a Skins fan I know you don't want to look like an Iggles fan with all the green on these things but you could customize it to Redskins colors.

There's a guy out there that customizes them to any team colors you choose. Looks like he hasn't done a 'Skins one yet, or at least hasn't posted a photo if he did, so you would be the first one in the lot with one. Not sure what he charges seeing how he requests you to email him so he can provide an estimate. But as the old saying goes, if you have to ask, you can't afford it.

Since I am new to the board I am not allowed to post links or embed pics. So if you'd like to see some of the custom jobs on grills, just go to Google and Search "custom tailgating grill". It should be the first or second result on page 1.

Sorry in advance to the mods. I am not trying to skirt the rules and spam the board. Just trying to help a fellow 'Skins fan get a cool looking grill and not a lame one.

Re: Tailgaters I need help!

The grill we currently use is about that size, we want something bigger. As said it seems like I'll have to go to Dicks this weekend and see what they have. The Excursion is a big vehicle so if we can't find something for the hitch we can always just put it in the back.
