Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
This is my final T.O. campaign for the offseason. Owens needs to be in a Redskins Jersey for the next season. Its a fit, we need a big target and he won't cost us draft picks.
Alot of people are hype about the idea of us getting Vincent, but why not T.O.? When you look at the numbers of the two players over the past 3 years Owens is superior and should be a perfect pick up for 2 years. This would give shanny the opportunity to draft a reciever of his choice. I think T.O. would take an incentive laden contract. People are hanging on this price tag that he supposedly has, however if we invited him in and offered him a contract, most likely he'll take it. I know I'm gonna get slammed for the thread, but its the right move... Although he has been a douche in the locker room in the past, he doesn't get in trouble in public. Why not go after T.O.? |
re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
I'm not against TO in DC. In fact, I think he handled himself splendidly in Buffalo. The problem is, he's how old? And he wants how much? He still wants stud #1 WR cash -- but he's not the player he used to be. If he has reasonable contract demands, I'd take him in DC. At least we'd have a WR that roughly resembles a valid threat.

re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
No flame from me bro.
People can say all the negative crap about TO that they want but he was a model citizen in Buffalo and he produced at a higher level then Devin/Malcolm with a trio of less talented QBs throwing him the ball. And TO has a legendary work ethic that would be a good example for our young WRs and has a mastery of the WCO passing routes plus he's a good/willing blocker. There is no doubt that he's old and his skills are declining but a 2 year contract as insurance for the Devin/Malcolm sounds good to me. re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
I'm not against it but it's obviously up to Shanahan to make that call. As questionable as our WRs may be, he obviously doesn't see the need. And apparently the other 31 teams don't either.

re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
I was on the TO train, but at this point I am solidly in the FO's corner. If they bring him in, great, if not, also great.

re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
We already have two pretty good non blocking tight ends, why bring in T.O.?
|
re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
No. We don't need a guy who will drop more passes then the rest of the WR corps combined.

If the Skins find themselves dealing with a recalcitrant Haynesworth, I would hope they'd have enough sense to not add another wildcard like T.O. to the mix. Also, McNabb should have to endorse the move. T.O. would need to know that if he acts up in any way he's gone immediately. We can't have a repeat of the mess T.O. caused in Philly. |
re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
Would rather see Thomas and Kelly step up and let Moss be the veteran 3rd receiver presence...but I'm going to be upset if we sign T.O.

Agree. To me if we bring in TO, Thomas and Kelly picks are confirmed fails. The guy is too old, a douche in the locker room, picks himself before the team, a media distraction, and will be overpaid....we already have this guy called Phat Albert, we dont need a guy like that on offense too. |
re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
I don't want fear to dictate our moves, I honestly believe everything that has happened this offseason for him and the banishment to buffalo last year will keep him from acting out. TO wants to be in the spotlight and we are his only ticket back into the NFC East
Also T.O. saves us the picks that we would use for the draft. If he doesn't become the number 1 guy at least he will raise the level of competition in DC. |
re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
We have J. Gal and he is the same or older. I have no problem with TO I really would like to see him here. All we need is 6 TD from him and he can easily get them.
TO will make most CB and Safeties in the league think of him as a threat. That said he still makes people bite when he cuts on his routes. TO is an up grade from Joey Gal hands down. |

Missed a key word in my post...meant to say not going to be upset if we sign T.O. |

I give it 3-4 months before we sign him.

I thought Redskin fans would have learned their lesson after AH? Character matters!

re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
I've been saying for awhile he will be here at some point. If you give him an incentive based contract with little guaranteed money I think it would be a great way to have some better competition for Thomas and Kelly. If you can sign a 400 year old wide receiver why not T.O.? Yeah yeah everyone says he's a head case but i think he has mellowed a lot since he was younger. He had 800+ yards in a crappy Buffalo offense last year and was well behaved.

Easier said than done, who's to say he wants that sort of deal? He's just a camp injury away from getting some decent $$. |

re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
What did TO do in Buffalo last year that was good enough to erase everybody's memory? I just can't see this guy in a skins uniform even if he plays for free.

re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
Seen a few posts recognizing the fact that "T.O. was a model citizen in Buffalo".
Yeah well, look at his history, he is ALWAYS the model citizen in his first year with a team. He was in Philly, he was in Dallas, he was in Buffalo. Just seems Buffalo learned from other teams not to keep him around long enough to start his rants. What happened in his SECOND year in Philly? What happened his SECOND year in Dallas? Owens is aging, his skills are diminishing, and he still drops balls a lot. Can he contribute on the feild? Yes, but not like he used to do. Owens will sit tight until there is a training camp injury to a WR some where in the league and then he will cash in on a one year deal. No one will sign him to the deal he wants, he is looking at a mid level contract at best. Why do you think he signed in Buffalo so quickly last year? He knew when he got the offer, no one else was going to offer him 6 mill. And that is still the case. However, he will get paid more when a training camp injury somewhere makes him more valuable to a team. Dont go after Owens, there is youth in Washington and a much more seasoned QB. |

I was just saying that based on my assumption that he would love to play with McNabb and exact revenge on the Cowboys and Eagles twice a year. If that theory is correct I would think he would rather take that over another team he may not be as motivated to play for. Plus I think Smoot is right, sign him for one year, problem solved. lol |

Now if you could just take care of his age, diminishing skill and dropped passes, you'd be onto something. |
re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
I think T.O. is at the age where he just wants to produce on the field and get a ring. Every player wants a ring i think he has realized while in Buffalo do my job and shut up time is very valuable to him. He will sign with someone at the end or after training camp.

re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
I think wanting T.O. here in his current state is more of a referendum on our fanbase than on player evaulation or his great changed character.
With that said, I can't say I'd be disappointed either if we did bring him in, which tells you everything you need to know about the state of our receivers. |

Dont go after Owens, there is youth in Washington and a much more seasoned QB.[/quote] In past yrs I would have been against T.O. I'm also against having him around 3-5 yrs. What I think is funny is the fact people look at him as a problem child with out even knowing why he was a problem child. How would you guys feel if Art Monk was told sorry the Skins don't keep individual records? As for you Sandtrap it would be like Dallas saying "sorry Irvin we don't keep individual stats or acknowledge them." It was my understanding that while with the Eagles T.O. was told they don't acknowledge individual stats. That pissed him off since he had just broken a record catch wise. He is also close friends with Irvin so he decided to wear Irvins jersey prior to the teams next game. That pissed off the other players and fans. The owner and HC decided to not do anything or say anything about it. That pissed of the players and fans even more. A few players decided to openly make comments about it and it started an issue between a lineman and T.O. Somehow McNabb got involved and it kept getting worse from there. Honestly I can kinda see both sides of it. Dallas was another issue. Romo sucks and I can see many WR's getting pissed with him. lol. JK. I think there was a lot of stress with the team. T.O. who had been the go to guy was now being double teamed by opposing teams which forced Romo to use other receivers. I think that simply grated on T.O. When he was wide open Romo was looking short to Whitten and T.O. hardly got the ball when double covered because of the double coverage. You mention Buffalo as if they wised up and cut him from the team. That was not the case. T.O. was traded to Buffalo or took a 1 yr deal with them. He was a modle player while there, but his contract was up and he is looking to play elsewhere. I don't think anyone could blame him. I don't think they offered him a contract but if he was happy in Buffalo he would not be shopping his talent around the league. Also T.O. has mentioned he knows he's old and not neccessarily a #1 WR and is content being the #2. Now people will say "the Skins don't need a #2 we need a #1" but he's still better then what we have now. As I see it either Moss would be doubled or T.O. which would leave everyone else single covered. Plus Andy Reid, and Wade Phillips are not the strongest HC's in the league. I think Shanahan would have handled the situation better. |

T.O. should be last resort. If no one else becomes available then sign him, but hopefully someone else is there.

re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
I think that at this point we have several one year options. If we think that he can really change something for a year and that we can replace the production that he offered in a year it would be alright. Didn't Shanahan basically say from the beginning a move like that would wait until September or October?
|
re: Stop the Madness, T.O. should be a skin (but he's not, he's a Bengal)
At this point I'm going with whatever the FO thinks.
