Rookie 1st round pick signings
Discuss the rookie 1st round pick signings here.
Unfortunately the first chip to fall is a Cowgirl: Dez Bryant deal is done | ProFootballTalk.com |
Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
Well it only makes sense. Cowboys open Training Camp tomorrow, a week before most teams because of the HOF game. SO it makes sense that they get their draft picks signed earlier than most
Many more will fall before next week ends, and there may be a few that miss the first 3 or 4 days of camp, but they will sign. |
Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
This is totally objective, but seriously, I think he was the most giant douchebag in the entire draft, however, the Cowboys drafted him.
It was almost like I wasn't surprised. Cowboys aren't shy about taking total pieces of human garbage. The talent might be there, but they truly don't care about morals. |

Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
Why did he miss last year?
I also don't understand the personal attack that harsh. I don't like him as a Cowboy, but he is still just a man. Wish he was a hold out! :)~ |

He broke some NCAA rules but it wasn't nearly as egregious as you're making it out to be. |

He didn't pull a John Elway on Dallas |
Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
Shit if we didn't have such a need on the O line I would have hoped for Dez Bryant. I watched him all through college and the kid is nasty.
|
Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
I was pissed when the Cowgurls got the best reciever in the draft. This guy is a serious talent, but his ego, personality could be his downfall. Still no reason he should have slid that far in the draft.
|
Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
Well Wiki'ed him and the reason he missed his last year at school was because of innappropriate contact all be it a meeting of some kind with Deion Sanders, he also has no criminal charges or record so I don't understand the comment earlier other than he is a Cowboy. I to would have welcomed Dez as a Redskin.
|
Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
Dez lied to the NCAA. He was told when the contact with Deion first came to light, that if he just told the NCAA what happened, he would have not been suspended. But he stuck to his guns and denied the contact.
NCAA found out that he lied, and they suspended him for the season. Just another in a bevy of agents targeting talented college players. Like what has come to light with Reggie Bush and the sanctions and probation of USC for 4 years. You know there is something wrong at USC when Reggie Bush is now the "bad apple" but OJ Simpson isn't. And that is the only knock on Dez Bryant I am aware of. Other than that he seems ok. Just look at the contract numbers for a first rounder who is arguabley the best WR in the draft. 11.8 million over 5 years with only 8.5 mil gaurateed. Very friendly to the club for a first rounder. He sent a signal with that contract that he wants to get on the field and not miss a day of camp. So far no complaints. I know all the hype is surrounded arounf Bryant in Dallas, but they still have to sign thier second rounder, Sean Lee. And that is the guy I think was the best pick of the Dallas draft. Kid has an unstoppable motor. |
Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
Yeah, I thought DBryant was a trouble maker at first, but clearly he wants to play and prove himself. And it sounds like he has the talent to do it. Sonofab****. Ah well, Orakpo, Osi, and TCole will have to get Romo on the ground before he knows what hit him.

Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
Gotta get TW done soon.
|
Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
I was under the impression that Dez Bryant is actually a decent kid. Nowhere in the articles I've read about him indicated that he was egotistical, selfish, etc. etc.
Still though he's on the Cowboys so I'm obligated to wish him no success lol. Maybe he'll leave the Cowboys in 5 seasons and go have a successful career somewhere else. |
Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
I don't know if it's time to get anxious yet. Training camp is less than a week away and not only is Silverback not signed, there is absolutely zero news about anything -- whether he's going to hold out, or the two sides have agreed to terms in principle, etc. Absolutely nothing.
SS, you have any idea what the status of the negotiations are? |

Allen also said that they had meetings scheduled this weekend and that the Skins were going to be fair. The bracket for TW really is set well based on last year's draft, (an OT drafted 2nd, and 6th, and what the actual 4th overall got). This just won't be a hard contract and I really expect to see him sign by Thursday. Wouldn't surprise me if we get a Sunday night text saying he has signed. |
Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
Hopefully becoming the second highest paid lineman on the team won't cause him to bail the day before training camp and declare he doesn't like the zone blocking scheme because it's not what he's suited for. You know with him being the 4th overall pick he's about to get seriously PAID.

Haha, I came back to this thread after drunk me posted. I stand by that statement, but take it down a few notches. :D |

NICE TMC!!
A little drunkeness goes a long way to spew Cowboy drivin venom! |

LOL. That's kinda what I thought when I read the post, but I didn't want to call you out. Nothing like a drunkenly trashing an arch rival. Haha. |
Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
Suck it up Dez, and carry Roy's pads.

Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
So any news on any other 1st rounders signing? I'm sure TW will sign soon, but a lot of camps open today, and seems like it's still quiet on the signing front.
|
Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
A lot of chatter in the area radio/internet saying Williams signed. Anyone hear anything?

Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
This is awesome news if so. He would be the first in the top 5 to do so.

Wow, that would be boss if he is signed, sealed, and delivered before training camp starts given that he is a high first round pick and the first high first round pick to sign. Awesome news :) |

For the record, the ESPN part of it is just coincidental in this case |

Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
Sorry for jumping the gun on Trent Williams. Should have waited for stronger confirmation.

I'm not sure what type of info you've had, but what do you think the chances are he signs today and makes it in tommarow? |

We always appreciate info ahead of time SS. If you are right once every 20 times, it is still awesome to hear insider info. |
Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
Agreed. We love ya SS. You always bring it, and most of the time you are right. Hell you called J Brown back in March if i remember!

Re: Rookie 1st round pick signings
Thanks. As Matty and the other mods can tell you I'm pretty particular about what I share with the entire board. Sometimes I'll give Matty a heads up that something could be brewing (Matty, remember the Jason Campbell trade PM in October 2008?), and then it either dies out or it could be weeks/months before I even bring it up in a thread. Of course, I'm not always right but I make sure I'm not just throwing unsubstantiated info out there.
Haven't heard anything today on TW or Rogers. Haven't heard about Rogers in a while actually |
