good for him, hope it works out,I always liked Betts

re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
I dont understand why Betts never made it as a starter in the league. He had that great 2006 season, and I think was on pace for another 1,000 yard season last year before that terrible knee injury. 100 yards against Dallas was promising.

re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
too many fumbles. a career back up at best

Betts chose to be back-up and resigned with Redskins when he was a free agent few years ago.. Betts could have signed with a team where he would be a starter (I believe).. And well, what dmek said - he's a fumbling machine.. I have always liked him too.. |
re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
Betts kept his mouth shut and prepared like a starter - the guy was a pro here, and I wish him well in New Orleans.
|
re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
I know he had some fumbling issues but Betts is the kind of guy that you need on your team. He's a pro, he keeps his mouth shut and does what is asked of him. Plus he's a very good 3rd down back and he plays teams. I'm not sure why the new staff bought in Johnson over Betts. How many games til Johnson starts acting like the asshole that he is?

I always cringed when I saw Betts come in on 3rd down or a key situation because I knew if they gave him the ball there was a good chance of a fumble. I agree that Betts chose to be a back up when he resigned here but he was made an offer that he just couldnt refuse considering he only ever had 1 big season. Betts leaving is no loss to this team. |

I dont care how good of a professional he is, that means NOTHING if you cant deliver on the field. Besides the one good season he had with us, he was average at best. We shouldve kicked him off the team that year when he failed to score from the goal line against the Giants and single handedly lost that game. They shouldve made him walk home from that game. RB is probably the easiest position to replace, I wanted Betts and Cartwright replaced years ago. |

re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
Hate to sound like a broken record but I think his fumbling "issue" has really been overblown.
13 fumbles over the course of an 8 year career. 2 over the course of the last 3 years. Yeah in 2006 he had 6 (lost 4). But considering for his career he has 1027 touches, that's 1 fumble every 79 touches. Not great, but not someone with a fumbling problem either. Now, Adrian Peterson has a true problem. He averages 1 fumble every 50.75 touches. |
re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
The Church of Breesus welcomes another convert. Sadly, or not so sadly, Betts' on-field twin, ATV is making sure he isn't being missed here.

Yeah, he clearly got tripped on that play. I wish him well too. I'm always a little disturbed at what people hang on to. Let it go folks, it's just a game. Even the greats eff up now and then. |
re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
I understand that new mgmt. often looks to "trim the fat" immediately. So it wasn't too much a surprise that Betts was cut. I believe it was a money saver, but the sad part to me is that we've got a guy here - Parker - who is attempting to revivie his career. I wish Betts was in his place.
|
re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
I don't think people have mentioned what a pro Betts was. It shouldn't be overshadowed, him being the ultimate pro. What a pro-ey pro, the pro-iest pro that ever was.
I wish him well in Naw'leans. |

Parker isn't guaranteed to make a roster spot and if he does, that means that he still has some speed and quickness left, something Betts DID NOT have. |
re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
He did almost all that you'd want for a backup RB and maybe he has a few carries left in him. I wish him the best.

I have always liked him too..[/quote] betts said that he signed a contract extension with the skins during the '06 season b/c while he probably could have gotten a bigger contract if he waited util he was a FA at seasons end, he said he noticed alot of runningbacks that season sustaining serious injuries and he didnt want to roll the dice, not sign an extension with the skins then get injured before he became a FA compared to signing an extension with the skins during the season so that he had financial security. i always liked betts too. that decision of his struck me as odd then and still does now. seems to be too conservative and drenched in self-doubt to be made by a professional athlete but it appears to be the right decision. hes still in the league collecting a pay check. when it is all said and done, he could walk away from the nfl with lil to no long term damage or health consequences even though he was a runningback in the nfl for 10 years or so. good luck betts. |

re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
Betts is legit NFL rb talent with a chronic right knee issue.
Betts' real problem is his knee can not stand up to being an everyday Rb in the NFL. Except for 2006, whenever he had to take on the starters work load he inevitably injure his knee 4 or 5 games into it. 2006 was his 'breakout year' because miraculously he took on the added workload and did not tear his weak knee. I like the guy and hope he can stay healthy. |

interesting.. gl to him, hopefully he can end his career in a healthy state

Re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
Good for Randy, who knows he might actually have a little something left in the tank as long as his body holds up.
|
Re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
I'm glad that Randy has a new gig.
|
Re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
yeah randy!!! i was just going to ask about him in my earlier post but forgot to.
dang, randy was by far my fav skin. bill parcells and randy thomas fit very nicely. hope those big ol biceps hold up. hell yeah randy |

I disagree, Betts never had Parker's exceptional speed, but he had decent speed & was always quick in his cuts & to hit the hole, including when we last saw him in 09. Both players are coming off injuries & are at an age where their speed & quickness will likely be diminished to the point that they're no longer effective. I have been expecting (& hoping for) Parker to get cut, I just wish it was Betts that had the chance to make the team instead. Not saying he would make it, but maybe he's still got his burst. btw, I think the 3rd RB will have to make it on spec. teams. |
Re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
Good for Randy, always liked him a lot as a person (and player).
Is Jon Jansen still playing with the Lions or retired? |

You should check up on if..then statements first. Even so, should Parker actually have something left, what he has left is more than what Betts' had to offer, as Betts is essentially a much crappier version of LJ or Torain. |

Injury problems, but on the bright side at least he'll be able to walk when his career's over not to mention he's probably set for life in terms of finances. Still I wonder why Giff hasn't gone somewhere. Of the guys released he seemed to be the most talented. |
Re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
Defintley wish them both the best... always liked both of them... actually, its weird because it was an injury, but Thomas getting carted off in 2005 against Dallas when the whole crowd was going nuts for him was one of my favorite Redskin memories.

Thomas is an injury waiting to happen (but I'm assuming he'll be a back-up in Miami..and he's a good backup to have). Betts is coming off an ACL and it takes some time for guys to regain their "form" after that... |
Re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
I really didn't expect Thomas to play again.

You seem to be assuming I made a judgement on your 'if...then' statement, I didn't. I disagreed w/you in saying Bets DID NOT have speed & quickness. He might not have it now, but he did when we last saw him healthy. Who knows now? Not exceptional speed, but he hit holes quickly & got into gear well. My overall point was; parker and betts might be done, I'd just rather see Betts here competing for a spot. |

Actually Thomas shouldn't be playing anymore. He was already a huge risk last year with all those bolts in his neck. He has the money, now it's time to ride off into the sunset while you're still healthy enough to stand on your own two feet. |
Re: Betts a real Saint/Randy Thomas Swims with Dolphins!
Well that didn't last long. Fins cut Thomas today
