The Best Things About Summer
I stopped at one of those stands on the side of the road Saturday and picked up some sweet corn, peaches, and a few tomatoes. Nothing better then the fresh fruit and vegetable's of summer. The sweet corn was so good it did not even need butter and the peaches were so juicy I just grabbed a whole roll of paper towels. Will try the tomatoes to night with our BLT"S.

Re: The Best Things About Summer
Definitely. Road side stands and farmer's markets are awesome.

Re: The Best Things About Summer
I'm at work now, so I full expected that I would have to quickly close firefox as soon as I opened this thread. You fooled me again FD.

Re: The Best Things About Summer
ICE cold beer mowing the grass..........hmmmmm
|
Re: The Best Things About Summer
Can't believe it's quickly coming to an end. Seriously where does the time go?
|
Re: The Best Things About Summer
I think I tend to gain weight in the summer, even though I am more active I get off my usually gym schedule. Anyways staying on track I have to say a cold beer on a hot afternoon and bikinis.

Re: The Best Things About Summer
Best thing for me was having my kids here. They left this weekend, and really, could do without these next few days adjusting back to life without them.

Hey man sorry to hear that, chin up they will be back and I am sure you give them a bunch of great memories! |
Re: The Best Things About Summer
Yeah, they had to get up with me at 5:30 and go to work for a couple hours most days :D I can see their end of summer stories: What I did this summer- This summer my dad made me file papers at 630 in the morning 3 days a week, and when we didn't do that Grandma took us to the mall.
LOL No it was all good, my middle son is now firmly a Monty Python Holy Grail fan, and my daughter in one week did more damage to my shoulders than work in the last year. Seriously GOOD TIMES, and I am sure they will remember those the most. I will add my vote to those who have said bikinis as well! |
Re: The Best Things About Summer
Nothing like a cruise on the boat after 6 when the sun is starting to set and a few cold beers.
|
Re: The Best Things About Summer
Tank tops. Not on me...the wife.
(In the winter thread, I shall mention sweaters) |
Re: The Best Things About Summer
BBQ'ing Sundays and just chilling.
|
Re: The Best Things About Summer
Music outside on the back deck with a nice beer... Smell of a steak on the grill. DAAAMN.
|
Re: The Best Things About Summer
Nothing like a garden tomato and a cold beer after doing a bunch of yard work. I am generally a cold weather fan myself but as a teacher I do love the summer.

Re: The Best Things About Summer

I'm heading down this weekend myself. We have a place at the 8 mile post and there is nothing better then sitting on the beach drinking a cold beer and watching the girls walking by. Sorry I ment playing with my daughter and watching the girls walk by. No I ment sitting with my wife watching the girls walk by. Ok drinking beer and watching the girls. |

Re: The Best Things About Summer
For those who mentioned tomatoes, hell yeah. Love them. All shapes and sizes. It's also peach season- delicious.
I love the smell of fresh cut grass, the sound of cicadas in the evening, sitting outside with a cold beer, cooking on the grill, the beach, my wife in one of her tiny bikinis, driving with the sunroof and all the windows open with the music up.... I do love summer. Although this summer in DC has been stupid hot. I won't miss that come fall. |
Re: The Best Things About Summer
I'd say Slurpees. My wife and I have this thing when it's butt hott outside and we're in the car we'll see a 7-11 and look at eachother and we'll know. Sometimes we'll go to about 5 7-11's til we find one with the Slurpees ready. Chillin and knowing that we still have that is pretty cool.
Outside of being gay and bringing love into the thread. I'd say grilling without a coat on whenever I feel like it, a beer fresh out of it's 15 min freezer nap period, going by Bowie State to reminice about Band Camp, backyard football, and I'd say running around in the yard with my son. And yardwork, all these years in the condo I never knew how much I missed working in the yard. |
Re: The Best Things About Summer
I grill without a coat on all year round.
The fire keeps you warm. :D |
Re: The Best Things About Summer
Grillin' and chillin', fireworks, fresh produce from farmer's markets and roadside stands, taking the kids to the pool or park, trips down to the beach, softball tournaments (as long as it's not 90+ degrees out), picking steamed maryland blues and downing them with pitchers of cold beer. All of which are amped up a notch if there are hot women in bikinis.

I purchased 4 crab pots about a month back and we have had crabs about once a week. This year has been pretty good and I can get 2 bozen of nice jimmy's in 24 hours. Last year and years past I was lucky to get 2 dozen in a week. |
Re: The Best Things About Summer
Tonight is one of those perfect late summer nights, nice cool breeze coming off the lake, crickets chirping, great sleeping weather.

Re: The Best Things About Summer
It's 67 degrees in DC right now. What a perfect night.

How is that new boat doing? Have you guys been using it very much this summer? I have used mine more this summer then in the past two summers but I have not done very much fishing. Grayson our 3 yr old does allot better in the boat this year and when she gets a little tired she will just craw into the cabin and take a nap so thats a real big plus. |
Re: The Best Things About Summer
Yeah we get out as much as possible. Wish we could get out more but we've either been busy with other things lately or the weather doesn't cooperate.
