Which Jersey...
I thought I would just throw this out there and see what suggestions people might have. I am looking to get a new jersey to go with a new and hopefully lasting change.. shed the old bad karma and start fresh. I don't buy many jersey's so I am a bit conflicted on what name to go with. This is my basic criteria though:
* Not #28. Have that one now... that is the karma I am separating myself from. * Not #84. I am a JMU alum and have a custom JMU Gary Clark jersey that I wear on Saturdays and the occaissional Sunday(though too many clowns seem to think I am supporting the Vikings and just don't get it). * I started following the team in the late 70's and have always been a fan. So, anything from about '77 on is in play. * I try to avoid the most common overused guys even though I loved them. 44,81,etc. * No #21 -- bums me out too much. * No current players. I refuse to get stuck holding onto a jersey with a departed player. My short list has guys like: #55 Chris Hanburger - "The Hangman" #72 Dexter Manley #70 - Just the word "Gut" in place of the name. I have a feeling people would not get that either though. #27 Ken Houston ? Dude was stone cold. Skins traded 5 players to get him. Any other thoughts? |
Re: Which Jersey...
Dang... forgot about Clint Didier and Donny Warren too.
|
Re: Which Jersey...
That custom Gary Clark sounds pretty awesome, you'll have to post a picture
#58 Wilber Marshall #83 Rickey Sanders #71 Charles Mann #65 Dave Butz #5 Jeff Hayes |
Re: Which Jersey...
Get a custom # 52 Olkewicz or #29 Murphy.
|
Re: Which Jersey...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it 50 gut, not 70? 70 was chip right? You say most wont get it so I'm guessing I'm one of those 'most.'
Care to explain please :D |
Re: Which Jersey...
Grimm? Jacoby?
For "GUT" I'd do 50, don't think 70 would be appropriate.. maybe CHIP 70 though |
Re: Which Jersey...
Dang, you fella's are right. Been at work to long I guess. Yes, it would be a 70 chip.
Okie and Butz. Those have to be considered too. See why this is so tough:-) |
Re: Which Jersey...
Oh okay good deal, I was getting worried I had forgotten something. I think most people know 70-chip, I mean I'm probably one of the younger guys on the forum (22) and I knew that since I was about 10.
Of course some others would be confused, but I think most people would catch on or people such as myself would be able to tell friends who don't know. I personally like the idea of the jersey! |

Re: Which Jersey...
Why not a current player? I can definitely see Orakpo as a 10+ year starter here. The kid definitely has his head screwed on straight.
|
Re: Which Jersey...
Hard to beat Butz or Houston.
I hear ya on current players, they move around too much don't want to get stuck with a Randle El, Deion, or Westbrook jersey |
Re: Which Jersey...
Ricky Sanders, cuz you never see that one
|
Re: Which Jersey...
Ade Jimoh or Ethan Albright
|
Re: Which Jersey...
Jim Lachey
|
Re: Which Jersey...
Was #51 Monte Coleman the only Redskin to be in all three SB victories?
|
Re: Which Jersey...
Jim Lachey
You realize I have both Lachey and Sanders in stock - heck, they were both signed at the same event. |

not sure who else
Pretty sure Monk too. Monte Coleman was the only guy on DEFENSE who was in all 3. |

anything Riggins? doesn't need to be autographed.. my stepfather has been asking me about one for years now
No Riggins. I only deal with autographed memorabilia. We do advertise to have the largest selection of jerseys autographed by former Redskins though. |

that would have been my suggestion. however my landry jersey is currently collecting dust, my JC jersey is buried somewhere in the back, my portis jersey has peeling numbers and my ST jersey (#36) is framed. Im either getting rak or sticking with cooley |

so you don't do customs anymore? and if so only with multiple quantities? |
Re: Which Jersey...
Why not ol' Pat Fischer #37? That might not meet your time criteria....
Edit: man its been a while since I posted...I need to change my sig. :) |
Re: Which Jersey...
Go really old school and get a throwback Slinging Sammy Baugh! #33 the only retired Redskins number
|
Re: Which Jersey...
That's the only thing I hate when it comes to the older players. Most didn't play with our current jerseys and a lot of them you can't find in authentic so you are either left with a replica / premier or a jersey style the player never wore.
|
Re: Which Jersey...
A Kilmer jersey would be a good one if you frequent bars.
|
Re: Which Jersey...
so you don't do customs anymore?
and if so only with multiple quantities?
I do make customs with a minimum order of 5 of a style. But if your going for a name like Riggins that you can get out of China, it is going to be a lot cheaper since they make much larger quantity instead of each one by order. |
Re: Which Jersey...
all of the ebay Riggins have looked horrible
|
all of the ebay Riggins have looked horrible
I had some Riggins autographed jerseys a few years ago. The problem is he cost dealers so much, and there are so many fake autographs of him online, that you can't sell it for what it costs to produce. |
Re: Which Jersey...
Yeah I've heard that before as well.

What all can you do? For instance, can you do any sport or just NFL. As far as NFL, can we get things done like, for instance, you can't do Dallas Sucks, but could you do it? Or are you just doing old players? Thanks |
Re: Which Jersey...
Russ Grimm dude, he was just inducted into the HOF!

Thanks
Yes, I could make any jersey (with a minimum quantity) you wanted. I primarily set up and promote autograph events and that is what I use the jerseys for. I have also made football pants for autograph sessions. I did have one former NFL player who was going to see Gretzky and ordered jerseys to have signed for his foundation. My jerseys are not licensed by any league, so I never put team names, logos etc on them. The full details are on my website. |
Re: Which Jersey...
Thanks for all the great responses guys. Still a tough call but a lot of good suggestions here.
|
Re: Which Jersey...
Back when we frequented the same bar for games, a buddy of mine and I kept talking about getting jerseys of the Hogs and sitting at the bar exactly how they lined up.
Here are a few that haven't been mentioned yet: 25 - Joe Washington 54 - Kurt Gouveia 55 - Mel Kaufman 74 - Markus Koch 77 - Darryl Grant |

Re: Which Jersey...
I'm definitely going to second #71 Charles Mann and #83 Ricky Sanders
|
Re: Which Jersey...
ROFL. Right up there with a Zendejas. Or the Ade Jimoh suggestion. A throwback Jimoh would be Barry Wilburn. Anyone remember that waste of oxygen?
I liked Sanders too. The thing that stops me on Sanders is that I actually met him two years back at the Hall of Fame induction for Monk/Green. I was standing in line to take a leak and recognized him and talked a bit. Real nice guy. BUT... he was as wide as he was tall. I mean the man turned positively round. Nothing wrong with the per se, but now I have that picture stuck in my head! Just doesn't fit my football mental image:-) I think I have narrowed it down to Lachey, Coleman, Houston, or Didier. Seeing all these names and all of these suggestions does make me a bit sad for my kids though. They will never grow up having such a large number of players they can identify with. Free agency pretty much killed that. As a kid I always knew that I would see the Hogs(including Didier and Warren) year after year. I would see Okie, Kaufman, Coleman, Gouviea, Milot and of course Mann, Manley and Butz. The skill positions would change some(Riggins/Monk/Clark were stalwarts) but that always happens. Remember names like Virgil Seay, Alvin Garrett, Charlie Brown? Hell what about Otis Wonsley, Doc Walker and Mike "I-Never-Fair-Catch" Nelms? Things just change so much now. I think the game misses it, to be honest. |
