V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
NFL.com news: Disgruntled Chargers WR Jackson prepared to sit out season
Does this make it more likely we can wrangle him away from the Chargers? Does he look or sound like a character risk? Does he look like he can step right in, and play at a high level as a #1 WR without camp, preseason, practicing, gelling with the first team, qb, etc....? What is the maximum in players/draft picks that should be given up for this WR? Just some questions I thought were relevant, especially if we are looking into this guy. |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
No way.
|
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
I thought we had kind of beaten this topic to death. (http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/37184-report-redskins-are-pursuing-vincent-jackson.html)
I'm through with trading draft picks. No more "we're a player away" type moves. Because we are a far, far cry from a player away. |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Hell yeah bring his ass in here.. I would give up next years first and second to get this guy here NOW!!
Then sign him to a 5 yr 60 mil deal to keep him happy and drunk for years to come. Championship!! |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Ya, it was just a nice interview that I saw on NFLN last night. Seems like this guy is serious about producing, and he even guaranteed no off the field shit. I think some peoples idea of the way this guy functions off the gridiron is a little off due to some stupid mistakes he has learned from.
I hope we get him, and DT along with 2nd and 4th would be a good price, if only the chargers would go for it. |

Just more of the same shit Vinny and Co used to pull. Oh, but wait, this is different right? Yeah, didn't we optimistically say that right after every piss poor move Cerrato made? Build through the draft. I repeat, build through the draft. |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
lol.... didnt get the sarcasm there Scud....;)
I have talked about it at length in the VJ thread, basically concluding that he is not worth the price tag it would take to sign him and the price of the trade to get him in a Redskins Uni. |

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
As far as the Skins adding more players I would watch the waiver wire in the coming 2 cut days, if BA and MS see a player that they think has potential I doubt they would hesitate to sign him.
|
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Should have let it go on longer to see how many people my post would have fired up!!

Yeah for sure. That's how it goes right about now. Guys are going to start getting cut/picked up left and right over the next two weeks. |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
I'm honestly okay with loading up for a one year run with players on expiring contracts (McNabb, Jamaal Brown, Jackson), and then letting all these players walk after the lockout gets settled, replacing them with younger players.
Course, you can't give up the draft picks that will be used to acquire said players in these trades. But with players on small tender offers, a trade wouldn't have to give up very much. Jackson is suspended for the first three weeks of a season where his contract expires at the end of the year. That's not worth a first or second round pick, even considering the player. |

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Que Dream Sequence -- Moss, VJ, Bryant, DT, Armstrong, Austin & Banks I would still like Kelly but we can't have two injured guys in this dream sequence.
|
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
^^^LMAO!!! yes to many injuries for a dream!

My "dream" sequence would also include Larry Fitzgerald, Reggie Wayne, and Andre Johnson --- but I see your point. I'd definitely say that Bryant is a poor man's VJackson. Why trade picks when you could have another decent WR for free. Bryant may be a little injured, but even if we got VJ right now, he's sitting out for 4 games. Bryant (or VJ) *has* to be better than Galloway. I think. |

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Too many potential studs coming out of the draft according to fellow Warpathers to even consider VJ now. THis season can be chalked up to just playing through new systems on both sides ofthe ball, so our current batch of Wrs should do the trick. Galloway will be replaced by a draft pick, same with Kelly, or an undrafted WR. We are bound to find a good solid WR or a new Armstrong next year.

There are always people who want to "build through the draft". I'm one of them. But the *reality* is that it is REALLY HARD to pick a WR. And we *really* suck at picking WRs. Here's our last 20 YEARS of drafting WRs. 2010: Rd 7 - Terrence Austin 2009: Rd 7 - Marko Mitchell 2008: Rd 2 - Devin Thomas, Malcolm Kelly 2003: Rd 2 - Taylor Jacobs 2002: Rd 3 - Cliff Russell 2001: Rd 5 - Darnerien McCants 2001: Rd 1 - Rod Gardner 2000: Rd 7 - Ethan Howell 1999: Rd 7 - Tim Alexander 1998: Rd 6 - Pat Palmer 1997: Rd 4 - Albert Connell 1996: Rd 7 - DeAndre Maxwell 1995: Rd 1 - Michael Westbrook 1994: Rd 3 - Tydus Winans 1992: Rd 2 - Desmond Howard 1992: Rd 11 - Terry Smith 1991: Rd 12 - Keenan McCardell 1989: Rd 4 - Erik Affholter etc. etc. etc.. Washington Redskins draft history - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia My point is -- sure, we can build through the draft -- for offensive linemen, linebackers, etc. Vinny's not here anymore, but WR's are really hard to predict and draft well. Not to mention all of our other holes (LB, RB, C, NT, QB, etc). |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Then you have to ask yourself, is a WR something we need to draft next year in round 1 or 2 over the 4 other positions you listed?
I personally believe using next years 1 and 2 on a RB, G, T, or NT is far more productive for the long term future of this team than bringing in a 27 year old WR now. |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Saw a Rod Gardner jersey yesterday.

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Fantasy Question:
VJ is available in my league on the waiver wire, and I'm thinking about adding him in a "swing for the fences" type of strategy -- basically all gain, little risk. Question is, who to drop? RBs LeSean McCoy Jamaal Charles Arian Foster Leon Washington Laurence Maroney WRs Andre Johnson Larry Fitzgerald Hakeem Nicks Dwayne Bowe Dez Bryant TEs Zach Miller Heath Miller I guess I'm leaning towards dropping one of the Millers. I have Zach projected higher, but JC just hurt his wrist, and it is the Raiders after all. But, then there are QB issues in Pitt as well. What do you guys think? Stand pat, drop a Miller, or drop a RB? 1QB/2RB/2WR/1Flex/1TE/1DST/1K |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Drop leon Washington, Maroney, or Arian Foster?? Who is that guy!?
did you lebron james it? IE burn it hahahahahahaha
someone was actually wearing it on a positive note a guy came in, threw a cowboys shirt on the floor, stomped it several times, purchased it, said he was going to take a vid of him running it over/doing a burnout |

Arian Foster is/will be the starting running back for the Texans. I think Leon is the most talented back in Seattle, but there is a lot of competition and he's coming off a bad leg injury. Who the hell knows with Maroney. The Pats are so unpredictable. Problem is, I'm sure I can find a use for Leon or Maroney before week 11 (which is when VJ is supposed to come back). |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Should have googled him, I just do not remember his name from the draft.
|
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
#1 would be the NT.
You're just gifting free points to your competition, if nothing else. The only scenario where you carry 2 TE's is if you've already got a top-3 TE and someone else foolishly dropped a stud during a bye week and hoped he could sneak in and pick the guy up after the bye. Yes, I've done this, I'm not proud of it, but it is what it is :) |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Yeah, I have to agree dgack. The only reason I have 2 TEs right now is because there isn't a clear cut "better guy" between the two, or on the wire for that matter. VJ is there, but he might not play at all this year. My plan was to just wait to see which TE does best early and dump the other. I didn't have a real need to dump until VJ was dropped, and even now I have my reservations.

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
PURE SPECULATION ON MY PART
I'm starting to wonder if Shanny played Thomas the whole game last night in part to showcase him to position for a Thomas, 2012 conditional 2nd round pick (no way they trade 2, 3 and 4 from the 2011 draft) for Jackson trade. San Diego could use another WR if they deal Jackson, the 3 game suspension wouldn't affect too much because it doesn't seem like we were counting on Thomas for much production early anyways. I don't think it will happen and I'm really about 50-50 for getting Jackson but the Jamal Brown trade came out of nowhere so I won't be shocked if it happens. |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Any Jackson deal would have to get done today, or tomorrow, I think after tomorrow he would miss six weeks on his new team due to SD putting him on the roster exempt status.
|
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
I still don't understand why Shanahan hasn't gone out to get this guy. I'm guessing too high of a price but I dunno. He makes our receiving core go from crappy to great like that. He would give all the NFC teams, especially the cowboys match up problems. I've seen it last year with my own eyes when Rivers would just chuck it up to VJ and he'd always come down with it.
|
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
He's looking for a ton of loot. Plus you're looking at giving up a high draft choice.
|
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
If he really loves the game and has the passion for it of which he has proclaimed, he'll be there in SD or somewhere at the conclusion of his suspension.
|
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
They are ready to trade V.J...
Want to get the deal done by tommorow at 6 P.M. Per Pat Kerwin on moving the Chains. The chargers are ready to move him and feel comfortable with the offensive weapons on the team. |
Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
so if SD takes Crayton, and we get Jackson, how would Dallas fans feel?
