Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
Albert Haynesworth's disappointing performance in Washington Redskins' preseason finale affects his status for opener A disappointing performance by Albert Haynesworth in the Redskins' preseason finale has renewed concerns about the Pro Bowler's commitment to the team and apparently has affected his status for the regular-season opener against Dallas, three people familiar with the situation said Saturday. Haynesworth was "awful" Thursday during the Cardinals' 20-10 victory at University of Phoenix Stadium, said two of the team sources who recently reviewed game film. It often appeared he gave little effort while participating in 49 of the Redskins' 55 defensive plays. On the few occasions he did play hard, the two sources said, Haynesworth failed to adhere to the principles of the new 3-4 scheme. He was credited with four tackles, including three unassisted. .... click for more
The saga continues.. This standoff may be a season long. I'm sure he didn't try hard because he was upset at playing the whole game with the back-ups. And I'm sure he'd try a lot harder during a real game, esp. with Dallas. But I guess the standoff between the coach and player is getting ridiculous. Do you think we should: 1) Play Haynesworth and give him the benefit of the doubt? 2) Ship him off & trade him to somewhere else? 3) Bench him until he actually plays & proves it to Shanahan... It sure would help to have him at Dallas. |
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
Again the problem with trading AH, is the fact we gave him 21M Guaranteed. He won't start vs Dallas but he will play most of the game... Shanny is a hard ass but the guy also wants to win.
|
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
dude needs to be on the field...more tired of Albert Haynesworth than Glenn Beck at this point
|
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
agree Oki... this guy is playing.
|
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
Shanahan was relaxed on his show, and asked about AH, his expression didn't change and he didn't really react, but he didn't seem concerned. Personally, he may not be a starter but AH will get plenty of snaps.

RT @JReidPost Redskins sources: This is not about whether Haynesworth starts. Apparently, that ship has sailed. Now it's if he will play. Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
How shocking...a veteran not giving his all for a couple of plays in the final preseason game. This is such a newsworthy story!
|
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
Apparently Mike Shanahan did not see our starting defensive line being pushed around by the Bills o-line during the first few snaps of the Bills game or how awful they looked anytime AH wasn't playing.
I hope this is some type of smoke screen crap. |

I feel like this goes more beyond that simple observation. For all we know maybe Albert has stopped giving a shit and has just decided not to play to his best until he gets the hell out of here. Either way the longer this situation simmers the worse it will get. It's time to just get rid of him. There's nothing worse than a player who can be dominant losing all motivation to be dominant and not playing up to his capabilities, and I'm pretty sure if he plays half assed against the Cowboys his teammates will tell the coaches to pull his ass out of there before he starts costing the team points. |

Personally, I felt he played well when it mattered against the Cards. it's a matter of Shanahan letting it go and just let the guy play period. We get it Shanahan, you won, don't need to be rubbing it in every f'ing time you talk about the guy. Ugh. |
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
Unfortunately if this situation is this bad, his trade value has dropped quite a bit. Who'd give us a 2nd round pick for someone that's not even starting with our team.. And is it worth giving up Haynesworth after $21 million for just something like a 4th rounder? I guess sometimes you just have to accept your losses and move on.
I'm still hoping they get on the same page, and Shanahan just buys him a cigar. |

However in this situation the 'inside source' is an imaginary friend of the writer that is trying to get a headline. Did you see this lame article is on the front page of WP on line edition? Must be a really slow news day. Correct if I am wrong but Shanahan down played it in his interview? I did not see it, but it seems like he did not go off on Haynesworth as the articel implied he would do. Inside source should reveal himself. Is vinny in the house? |
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
Seriously, if there's something analogous to describe the Haynesworth affair, it's a swinging pendulum.

Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
^^Two strong willed personalities, something is eventually going to have to give.
|
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
I was thinking the same thing watching him on Thursday. Guy was simply standing up half the time and putting no effort into wrecking havoc on the other teams line. After a series or two Haynesworth would have been the last person I double teamed.
|
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
I really need to go back and watch.. in some spots you want him getting penetration.. in others you want him just staying at his gap
|
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
There's only 1 way you solve this fiasco...
Win! Do that and all this goes away.... As far as fat Al...You have to play him... The guy is a physical freak at 6'6" 330 lbs...He has been conditioned under the Shanny regime and will at least be able to play, without flopping all over the field and needing to come out for a breather. He may not start this 1st game because of huge ego's... But when Shanny see's the Dallas line and their backups pushing our guys down the field, until fal al comes in...he will then hopefully realize to himself and say...."Damn...looks like I need this chump on our Defense"! So unless Shanny wants Dallas gashing our Run Defense for 250 yards rushing with Jones and barber....He might want to consider putting in the 100 M dollar man... even if for only spot duty. |
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
This will end come Sunday night. Shanny does not let him start to maka his point and when AH gets in he shows why he gets paid the big bucks.
|
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
On NFL Network they've broken him down over and over and on several occasions they've shown that he doesn't play the defense, he's un disciplined, he loafs and only plays hard on a few plays. When he plays hard he's tough to block. He put Fanaca right on his back the other night. But why doesn't he play hard ALL THE TIME? Cause he's lazy and has a shitty tude. So with all of that he really doesn't deserve to play that much. Maybe a few plays here and there but that's it.
|
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
The Dallas game is going to be great. Witten is going to have about 150 yards and they are going to run at will on us while Haynesworth is on the bench.
Boy, Shanny is really showing everyone who's boss... Can the season just start? Why the hell is the coaching staff's internal discussions leaked to the paper? Shanahan was supposed to be smarter than this. |
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
I watched him and I'm not surprised especially after he had complained after the Ravens game of playing with 3rd stringers. He was giving "minimal" effort and boy did it show, that's his way of pouting instead of to the media. What a fat PUSS.

Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
Me thinks Haynesworth won't be seeing the field very much at least during the first few games.
This is actually playing out just as one would imagine. Shanahan would rather lose in what he considers "the right way" than play that piece of shit. I guarantee that. |

Preferably if a 4-3 DT goes down and somebody wouldn't mind giving up something for him, either a pick or if it isn't an injury situation than a guy who wants to leave a team. Even if it's just like a 4th or 5th round pick, I'd rather get something than nothing for him. There's no way anybody is going to give up a 2nd round pick, so we might have to settle for less. Either way by now it's not just hurting the team it's making our staff look bad, and I know I'm not the only one who's tired of it. |

If there's one thing a person can crticize Shanny for,is his knowlesge of Defense or lack thereof.. Remember when he signed all the browns D-line on Denver in his tenure? What am I saying? I'm saying the fued between Shanny and Haynesworth should have nothing to do,with haslet putting Haynesworth in on his D-line rotation. It should be haslet's call..not Shanny's.. If Shanny is specifically putting his interest into the defense on Haynesworth's account and his playing time because of this pissing contest....then I will have lost respect for Shanny in this regard. Besides,Shanny needs to worry about our lackluster running game from what I've seen and how he's going to correct it... Otherwise,it won't matter if haynesworth plays or not imo... I will hold judgement until after Dallas game... I'm on a wait and see approach! |

I tend to agree with this article, why not just release the guy and move on with a clean slate?
This is what aggravates me. I think Shanny and Allen have done a lot of good. IN general they're running a much more professional ship than we've had in years. But I am sick of Shanny's crap with AH. This BS notion that "everyone is the same" is just that BS. Good managers know that you don't manage every employee the same way. If you do then you aren't a good manager. Obviously AH is a doucheturd but if you think he's too good to get rid of then you need to manage him the best way possible. This asshatedness of trying to break him and make conform is not going to work...ever. And all Shanny is doing is continuing to keep a distraction going. |

Good point FRPLG....Your post repeats verbatim the very point I tried to make in an earlier thread. |
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
Haynesworth needs to be out there. Not saying we can't be good without him, but we are only better with him.
Did I mention the Washington Post is still retarded? |
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
Look, one problem we've had around here that's contributed to our long period of suckiness is that players get to do what they want. AH is a well-known jerk. Shanny is making the point that he's not having it, full stop. AH clearly felt he was being treated like a punk by sending him out on 49 plays in game 4. So he half-steps it. Shanny sees this and refuses to back down: he tells the media about it. Now let's see how AH practices this week. If he plays hard, that's that. If not, the saga continues. He doesn't start and gets limited playing time. If he still half-steps it, he's benched.
My prediction is he plays hard for Haslett (the "good cop") and works hard in the game. Shanny can declare victory at that point and off we go. But a key element is, as ace said, winning. Notice how AH seemed to snap in line when we won. Losing allows the guy to pout and bitch. And that's trouble. As for "just releasing him," I don't think this is such a distraction for the players. Rather, it's a media thing. So long as the team is with Shanny, no big deal. Let AH simmer and let the media spin. Who cares? Now, if there's evidence that it's distracting the team, ok, maybe. But a trade is obviously much more desirable. And, of course, AH playing ball for us is the most desirable. Hopefully, we'll win some games, AH will back off, and Shanny can move on to other things. |

FRPLG...Permalink #426 - #431 & #435 of the Skins vs Cards, Preseason week 4 Gameday Thread is proof positive of just how much I'm in agreement with your latest assessment.

Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
When a journalists lists an unnamed source, I do not think you can assume it was Shanahan especially after his Coaches Show that aired last night. I which he stated that the story was out of control and he did not want it in the media anymore. I would take this as him not wanting these types of stories in the media anymore and to be kept in house.
Another POV instead of looking at this story for face value, would be a type of misinformation he wants out there so the Cowboys are not focusing on AH as a force they need to deal with. (This would be dumb on the Boys part) They should not overlook this guy and I have stated this before. Jason Ried will print anything he can get out of anyone in the organization to keep this story going as it gives him national recognition. The link to this story is now on ESPN and I am sure a 100 other internet sites. Let's try and not fuel the fire on this story and wait and see what September 12th holds for AH and the defense. |

Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
I don't think it's fair for the coaches and team to expect the players to discuss it with the coach if he has a problem, and "keep it within the team"... And then have the coaching staff have J.Reid on speed dial. Shanny's got to assume some responsibility for "leaks" within his staff, if they are credible.
Again, clean this mess up. Let's play football. Hope big Al's out there. |
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
I agree if MS is in full control of this team, these leaks do come back to him even it is not under his direction to put the information out to the public. He still has the responsibility to control the people in the organization, but how can he control what everyone saws or does not say to the media.
|
Re: Haynesworth was "awful" (WP) - may not start against Dallas
I can't imagine he won't play the majority of the game even if he doesn't start. On an unrelated note, its not entirely un common for teams to draw out an internal source by purposely feeding him fake information, and when it gets out that guy's busted...that's why you should always have more than one source

While I am fine with unnamed sources, I have issues when only one news outlet is reporting something and it's not corroborated by others within a reasonable amount of time. This story started with JLC, then bounced to J. Reid but I hadn't seen the other beat reporters piling on. |
