Houshmandzadeh signs with Ravens (Adam Shefter)
Adam Shefter
Ravens reached agreement with former Seahawks wide receiver TJ Houshmandzadeh on a one-year, $855,000 deal. More at espn.com.

That sucks. Well, there's still Clayton, and perhaps VJ.

I'm shocked. Boldin, Mason, Clayton, Stallworth, and now Housh. He's probably their 5th WR, and arguably all 4 are better than him at this point so he won't see the field.

Re: Houshmandzadeh signs with Ravens (Adam Shefter)

Housh is easily their #3. Clayton and Stallworth are not in his class.

He can be their #1 too. Man, this sucks but whatever...I'm guessing he didn't want to work for a hardass coach.

I've wondered to what level the interest was in bringing him here, especially since I heard no internal comments on the possibility. The Ravens bolstered their roster at the position.

Decent fit for him, flat out shocked Vikings didnt make more of a push to get him with Rice down, think he is a much better fit in Minnesota. Man I was really hoping to see him in the Burgundy and Gold, perfect possession guy.

It is a shame that we missed out on TJ Who's-your-mama. He could have helped us. However, there is no reason to get too upset. It is not like he was the one missing piece for us or anything like that.

What plan could he possibly have at this point, other than giving away the store for Vincent Jackson?

Pinky: "What's the plan for today, boss?"

The Brain: "The same plan as every day: to take over the world!"

This. Bottomline, our receiving corps is what it is. If KS thought he needed more firepower I would hope that he and Mike would go to BA and get the deal done. Certainly Housh was not a money issue, VJ may be more so the compensation to SD, but at this point with the season starting this Sunday I think this is the team that needs to get it done. I think they can and will!

Well that came out of nowhere. I'm not saying that Moss sucks or anything, but TJ Housh could've compete for the #1 spot and def get more catches with the Redskins.

Re: Houshmandzadeh signs with Ravens (Adam Shefter)

yep, I agree Ruh and C.

Housh would have made a much bigger impact here, and would have had a chance to start week in and week out. In Baltimore he will have a harder time making a big impact.

AND we are what we are now, we have who we have and it is time to back this team 100% and BEAT DALLAS!!!

Glad we did not sign him. Looks like the staff is happy with the group that is here. Let's see if Thomas can take the next step. Let's if Banks can be a game breaker. Let's see if Armstrong can continue his splendid play. Instead of always chasing other guys let's see what we have here.

The guy will cost the Ravens only $855,000. He could have easily been a cheap rental with Seattle paying the tab.

i'm happy we didn't get him...I'd rather get a stud in this next years WR class than him. he's got like what 4 years left? maybe less? but this is the deepest WR class I can ever remember.

Unsure as to why people thought Housh was the answer to our problems, he's no #1, never has been.
Good for him and good for the Ravens, it's a perfect fit for both of them.

I think Santana can handle the #1 role, it's just we don't want Joey Galloway actually being the #2. He's 38, he's had like 200 yards receiving in his last two seasons apiece, and I feel the less we have to rely on him, the better. And Housh is easily a quality #2 wideout, even last year in Seattle with their myriad of qb's that played while Hasselbeck was out, he still managed to get to 900 yards receiving. He's better than everybody we've got behind Moss. But all that's under the bridge now that he signed with Baltimore.

With all that being said, welcome back Jsarno!

you hit the nail on the head. Altho, maybe the lack of viable options at WR (other than ones that need a walker) make us anty up and pay that 2nd and 5th to get VJ in here..............

I agree...I didn't like signing Galloway at all, so clearly I do not want to see him the #2, I'm still holding out hope that Thomas will win that spot. I wouldn't have minded us getting housh, just that I would no way want him as a #1, nor is he good enough to be a #1. So in that sense, I certainly understand what you are saying.

Yeah I agree, if we got V.Jax there might be more of a discussion of him taking over the #1 role, but if we get anybody else, we'd probably look at getting Galloway out of the starting lineup. I really wish DT had stepped up and taken that #2 job during the summer but if he doesn't take it this season he's never gonna take it. If both DT and MK turn out to be busts I'm gonna be really disappointed.

And that really sucks to hear that you have a torn rotator cuff man. Good luck with the surgery and recovery, it sounds like you're going to have your hands full for the next few months.

I call it the Madden effect. People like to give that "who do you cover" speech to their friends. For me I just get a headache when I hear it, especially since you hear it frequently from Dallas fans these days. On top of that people keep forgetting to mention Chris Cooley as a viable number 2 target. Inside the box thinking has people thinking that a #2 guy has to be a wideout.

I hear ya man...I was really expecting big things from Thomas this year, it appears that's more like a 10% chance now.

Not looking forward to it...my recovery time is 3-6 months...that sucks. At least I'll have more time to play playstation. haha. I just want to be able to use my arm again like normal.

TJ is on the downside of his career. Still productive but on the downside. We've got some young guys that might show promise so if he comes in then someone has to go. Glad we passed. Good move for Baltimore.

Not only is he not a #1 but he can't run away from anyone. Yeah he's good underneath but we're already got two TE's for that. I just don't think he's what we need.

You know that's a really good point.. Teams are constructed in different ways and while it would have been nice to have Housh, we aren't any worse today than we were yesterday-despite how some people are reacting.

Of last year's playoff teams NYJ, SD, Indy, Dallas & Philly each featured a TE that was either 1st or 2nd on their team in receptions. Balt, Pitt, GB, NO & Minn each featured a TE that was 3rd on the team in receptions. Only New England and Arizona didn't use the TE as a part of their passing game but they each have elite options at the WR position, a true rarity in the NFL.

We can be productive and proficient with what we have at the receiving (WR/TE) positions.
