QB Contract Extensions: Brady agrees to deal; Peyton next? McNabb??
 

Well, it seems that Brady and the Pats have agreed to a deal:

I wonder if this will have any effect on Manning's talks with the Colts, and in turn how all of this could have an effect on McNabb's extension. It should be an interesting subplot in the early weeks of the new season (and I thought it would be a good thread to have).

Is it still rumored that McNabb might wait to see what happens in Minnesota with Favre because he's always wanted to play there or whatever the reason was?

Personally, I don't think that is the case. I would bet that any delays in any contract extension may have to do more with the uncertainty of the 2011 season (in both Manning and McNabb's case).

To be honest, I think the chances of McNabb being on the team in 2011 are 50/50 at best.

McNabb isn't going anywhere. Do we really think MS wants to be QB shopping again next year? By mid season a new deal will be in place.

I don't buy into these crazy rumors at all. Going forward, beyod Favre, we could have a more appealing situation anyways, aside from AP.

I would not be surprised at all if McNabb ends up in with the Vikings. He's got his old OC there, he's got AP to hand it to, better O-line, better team overall.

Just before he was dealt here, he said he wanted to finish his career in Philly.

I think the dude is just loyal to wherever he plays....

They forced him out. We won't be doing that unless something catastrophic happens to him.

It is not the most ideal situation for McNabb going into the the current season as basically a lame-duck QB with so much uncertainty surrounding 2011.

Since he is virtually a QB in transition, his situation differs to some extent compared to a Brady or Manning who both have established reputations with their respective teams. If McNabb does not play well to start the season, or [god forbid] he get's injured and is out for an extended period, his perceived value could change.

It's likely some early parameters have already been established on a contract extension, but I also see a cautious approach being taken. Now, I know Donovan has said all the right things, he's savvy enough to know what to say when the lights come on. Starting Sunday night, all eyes are going to be on #5, his ability to stay healthy and to play well when he is will play a large role in contract negotiations.

There are A LOT of variables around this McNabb thing that makes it anything but a sure thing. The bottom line is if 1) he wants to remain here and 2) we want him to remain our quarterback, this thing WILL get done.

If one or both of those propositions is untrue around November of this year, then it becomes 50/50 for him to return.

In other words, if we're below 500 and he's getting the crap knocked out of him every week and he doesn't have a deal then the chances of him bolting to Minn go up.

I know people don't want to hear this now but this trade really doesn't look good now. We've kinda got an old team that at it's best is probably average. IMO we just should've went the route that Tampa Bay did.

No guarantee that the new CBA will have anything like the "franchise tag" or the "transition tag". Agents HATE those things because it takes leverage away from them. Since the agents hate them, the players also like them a lot less than they have a rational reason to hate them.

Thre will probably be something like one or both of these things in the new CBA but they will not be exactly as they are now.
