Favorite Apps for your Smartphone
So i thought id start a thread about apps you come across and really like or find really usefull.
I have a droid but it seems like there is almost always something comparable the iphone market and vice versa. Here are the ones i like and actually use regularly: tapatalk - heard about it on this forum. How else would i be able to to get on thewarpath when im taking a bathroom break? I actually like the layout of forums better on tapatalk then the real layout. fastfood finder - sometimes you need to find the closest mcdonalds asap and get navigation to it in one click urban spoon - shake your phone to find a close by restaurant to go to that night. You can set cost, location and type of food so you can narrow down your options redskins news - constant updates on redskins news the weather channel - whats the 10 day forecast? TiKL - use your phone like a walkie talkie and make sure every at the grocery store gets to hear you and your friend laugh about that nasty girl you dont really remember going home with last night trapster - avoid the cops pandora - tunes man tunewiki - listen to mp3s. This is the best option ive found so far nubinews - most news sources in 1 spot. Im a major current events and news junkie so i got most news apps for the major sources. Out of all of them i think Thomson Reuters "news pro" is the best, but nubinews lets you skip around to different news sources pretty easy. Alright what apps do you guys find really useful? |

Re: Favorite Apps for your Smartphone
Nice thread. I use Android 2.1
tapatalk - I agree, gotta be able to see what's going on! shush! - pretty nice simple function when you silence the phone it lets you set how long, great for movies or other times so you don't forget to turn the ringer back on HD Dolphin browser for the internet. Just like how it works ------ shiny shake for hd lets you shake the tabs to the left and right. Handcent SMS - lots of nice functionality K-9 Mail is my mail program of choice the barcode scanner app is cool, lets you scan a barcode and get reviews of the products while you are shopping. agree also on Pandora and trapster |

Re: Favorite Apps for your Smartphone
Also craigslist notification is a real sweet one. You put in what youre looking for and it notifies you whenever something meets your criteria.
Example: Personals: Casual Encounters: Key words: Hot, l18, blond, petite. Then whenever a girl fits your description you get a notification. It also works for the other stuff you might use craigslist for........ |

Re: Favorite Apps for your Smartphone
Ive been using PdaNet for the last few weeks, and its now one of my most used apps. I think this might be a verizon/droid thing only. It allows you to tether your phone (use your phone as a access point). I'm using it to post this.
There are a lot of are you allowed to do this or not type questions out there. My friend got it first and had it a while and that settle any reservations i had about getting it. Also i think if you dont use it constantly youll never raise suspicions from your carrier. Also i think with verizon you would get a warning first if they can somehow prove youre tethering. ALSO there is a lot of bs out there about a unlimited, but really limited data plans for verizon. I doubled checked my plan and it definitly has no data limit, maybe new plans do but i doubt it. I think if you stay under 3gb youll be perfectly fine, go over 5gb on a regular basis you MIGHT raise suspicions (imo). Also I use my phone constantly and im average about 1.5gb (verizon mobile app). One more Also. If you want to test it out but not buy it heres a tip. The free version doesnt allow you to go secure sites (https). But i accidently figured out a little get around. A little thing will pop on on the screen soliciting you to buy the full app. If you click on that you will go to either the paypal or the credit card site (both secure sites), then you can go to other secure sites in different tabs. Also the full version or the get around version works a little faster and keeps that annoying pop up thing from popping up. Oh yeah something ELSE cool about it. When you get a text message it pops up on your computer screen and you can reply and keep a dialog going right from your computer. Its worth it almost for that feature alone. |

Re: Favorite Apps for your Smartphone
ScoreMobile is probably the best sports app ive gotten. It gives you the spread, over under, and game time of each game. Then you can click on the game and it tells you players that are injured and a preview, plus it makes it easy to add to your calander and also email if you want to. Plus after a game it give youa recap of each game and you can go back in a look at game summarys and recaps from earlier in a season. Plus you have team schedules which is really helpful sometime (epically w bball). Awesome app. Its free and definitely worth getting. Everything is covered, even the CFL. You know how sometimes you wish that there was a website that did the same thing as a app you have? This is one of them.

Re: Favorite Apps for your Smartphone
I've got the HTC Incredible with Android 2.2
I really like the Verizon NFL Mobile app... lets you have RedZone on while you watch the skins game on the TV. I also use ESPN sportscenter for everything else, in favor of SportsTap or Sportacular (which I used to use). NHL free app is kinda buggy, but I like it when it works. I use Skyfire as my browser, the default GMail app for mail (it is so awesome with the latest update), google calendar rocks. Also use pandora, stock music player, facebook app, movies app (with rotten tomatoes it's the best), shazam, weather channel, tapatalk, Wapedia (wikipedia app), and mobile banking apps. Best app tho, is the calvin and hobbes app.. |
Re: Favorite Apps for your Smartphone
Im messing around w skyfire to see if i like it or if it slows down my phone at all.
Another must have app is TelsaLED if your phone doesnt allready have a flashlight. It turns your phone's camera flash into a flashlight, mine didnt already have this so its pretty sweet. I pretty much have no need what so ever for a real flashlight anymore. |

Re: Favorite Apps for your Smartphone
I have a question for iPhone users. Android has an app, called Shush!, which is great for movies or meetings. The gist is when you turn your phone volume to zero Shush! pops up and asks how long to stay quiet. After that it automatically restores your ringer volume to a predefined level. It's a great app to run in the background.
My sister has an iPhone, and complained how she always forgets to turn the ringer back on, so I told her to get this app, but then when I looked for it in iTunes I couldn't find it. I rarely use iTunes though, so I may just not have looked in the right place. Does iPhone have a similar setting, function or app? |
Re: Favorite Apps for your Smartphone
I just got a Droid 1 bought it used and Verizon set me up on it, everything works expect I can't download apps, when I do so I keep getting a error message from the app store. I have a full 3G signal and phone signal.
I set up a gmail account and everything. Any thoughts? |
Re: Favorite Apps for your Smartphone
Well it depends what your error message is.

Re: Favorite Apps for your Smartphone
Mredskins, check and see if a sd card is in the phone in the battery department. The droid came w a 16gb one. I know you have to have a gmail acct to get apps so there might be something there. Also just restarting your hpone might do the trick
|
Re: Favorite Apps for your Smartphone
mlm, you dont need a SD card to install apps. Actually all applications install to the phone first. They can then be moved to the SD card.
Additionally, can you surf the web with 3g (turn wifi off)? If you can, that means its another issue, if you cant then something is wrong with 3g. I would call their support and take it in to the store if doesnt work. |
