Jones jabs at Snyder

From the AP wire:
It's not like Jerry Jones to sit quietly while others are making headlines, especially when the newsmakers are division rivals. Yet Jones said Thursday the slow, steady pace the Dallas Cowboys have taken in free agency is exactly what they wanted. "The plan was for it to come to us," Jones said after announcing his first big move, the signing of defensive end Marcellus Wiley to a $16 million, four-year deal that includes a $4.5 million bonus. "We kind of felt there were some real high numbers out there that didn't make sense to us." Asked about the big bucks spent by Washington owner Daniel Snyder, Jones smiled wide and said, "I've been watching them do it for the last several years."
|
joecrisp:
If Danny Boy and JJ get into a spitting match about flashy free agent signings, that would be about as stupid as an argument between Beavis and Butthead over which one was dumber. |
Eh, screw Jerry. At least Dan doesn't roam around on the sidelines during a game.
|
Jerry does have 3 rings to Snyder's 0, so like it or not he has the right to poke at Danny if he wants to. The two of them are friends anyway, so I wouldn't make too much of this.
|
Jones also had JJ to get him those rings....we'll see now that we actually have a coach
|
Who hired JJ though?
|
yeah well Snyder tried going that route and grabbed Spurrier. I wonder who won that contest...lol
|
At least Dan can say he looks like a relatively normal human being. Jerry Jones is a plastic surgery disaster ... dude looks like a cross between Fran Tarkenton and Tammy Fay Baker.
|
I agree with Matty that Jerry has a better hand over Snyder, but the fact he owns cowboyz just ridicules me.
To look from a bright side, the only excuse I can think for Jones to own 3 super bowl rings is that he has been an owner of a franchise for a longer period in a comparison to Snyder. Hopefully by the time Snyder reaches Jones age, Snyder will own more than 3 rings (this is very optimistic). haha |
who cares what he says anyhow?it is'nt like he is a nice guy or anything.he has to be an a$$hole for god sakes, look at the team he owns.i wonder what head coach nature boy billy parcels has to say about the redskins other than"Woooooooo"? :D
|
All I know is this, I love stuff like this. I hope the cowboys talk more shit then their is shit in the world. I would freakin love them to start ripping into our team this offseason, it will make next year all the sweeter
|
Exactly, Portis. Snyder has owned the skins how long? 5-6 years? As opposed to JJ's 20? Give the man some time, jesus.
We'll see if Jerry make's any jabs when the games start! |
It's one thing for me and other 'Skins fans to criticize Snyder. It's a very different thing when someone who doesn't root for the 'Skins criticizes Snyder. No one talks about my a-hole and gets away with it.
I hate Jones, I hate the Boys, I hate blue (except in the US flag), I hate silver, I hate stars (except in the US flag), I hate Dallas, I hate Texas, I hate cowboy boots, I hate cowboy hats, I hate anything that remotely reminds me of the Cowboys. I don't care now if we go 2-14, as long as we destroy those boys. |
I don't care now if we go 2-14, as long as we destroy those boys.
I've been saying that for years. :) |
Ramseyfan, I couldn't have said that better if I tried. :D
|
I used to be able to say that, but I can't anymore. My girlfriend is from Texas, but no worries guys..she absolutely HATES the Dallas Cowboys. Not saying she's a Redskins fan, but at least she's not all THAT bad! ;)
|
I believe Jones bought the Cowboys in 1989. That would mean he has owned the team 14 years so far and has 3 Super Bowl wins. The team he inherited went 1-15 that first season (remember who they beat on national TV?) and he got them to a Super Bowl win in 1993 if memory serves correctly.
So in his first 5-6 years Jones took a team that was just plain miserable and conned the Vikings into giving him a boatload of draft picks for Herschel Walker and used those picks wisely and built a three time Super Bowl winner which he then proceeded to dismantle and turn into a miserable team that went 5-11 three years in a row. In Danny Boy's "reign", he took over a team that was knocking on the door of the playoffs and had a boatload of draft picks courtesy of Mike Ditka and he managed to build a team that has been in the playoffs once and just had a miserable 5-11 season. Oh and he builds and dismantles teams every year just to show how much he knows. I would love to see Jerry Jones get creamed on the sidelines during a game; he is an annoying presence. But in terms of success, Danny Boy can't match what JJ did in his early years of ownership and may just kill the franchise here trying to prove that he can do what JJ did - - only better. I think this is the fundamental difference. Jerry Jones knows football because he played football - and not just flag football at the annual family reunion. Snyder thinks he knows football because he watched it on TV as a kid and rooted real hard... |
Snyder thinks he knows football because he watched it on TV as a kid and rooted real hard...
That discredits everybody's opinion on here who has never played. |
All he said was I've been watching them spend money the past few years. It is an observation and one based on facts. We spend money so does he but on a less frequent basis.
When Snyder Spends money and gets to the playoff then you can ostracize him for his comments but until then JJ has a valid point. |
I'm not so sure that Jones knows any more than Snyder about football, considering the Boys went through a pretty rough 3 years where they went 5-11 back to back to back, with Jones thinking he could run the show.
He has shown the ability to hire the right guy and step aside. It just took 15 wins in 3 years for him to realize that again. Looks like Snyder also learned that same lesson by hiring Gibbs. |
It just adds to the division rivalry, I want to see more of this kind of bitchiness. Hopefully we'll regain our winning ways under Coach Gibbs and we can take a turn yapping it up.
|
I think it's a hoot! It's great that he said something condescending about Snyder-- it adds fuel to the rivalry. Stuff like this is part of what makes being a fan of this game so much fun. I'm overjoyed that Joe Gibbs is back, the NFC "BEast" is back, the Redskins-Cowboys rivalry is back, and Jerry Jones is talkin' smack! These are happy times, my friends, happy times!

Until the Skins succeed on the field with their style of off-season spending, the critics will keep at it. We will prove all of them wrong this year though because of one big difference: Head Coach and Team President Joe Gibbs. |
Saden1, I don't think that Dan Snyder's actions have been a factor in the teams lack of success. For the past 5 seasons it seems top have been chemistry between team and coach.

If you took what I wrote as a condemnation of the opinion of anyone who never played football seriously, I apologize. That is not what I meant by any stretch of the imagination. I was directly comparing JJ and Danny Boy and observing that the difference in the level of understanding in THOSE TWO HUMAN BEINGS might well be explained by their different involvement in football. As I said, I'm sorry if I offended you. RedskinRat: Coaching has not been stellar in the last 5 years of the Washington Redskins. I certainly agree with that. But that does not exonerate Danny Boy for several reasons: 1. He brought in players that the coaches did not want and then got mad when the players and coaches did not "bond together" and win lots of games. Jeff George is the most egregious example of that and it was Danny Boy who made that happen. 2. He sided with the players in the Norv Turner Rebellion and pulled the plug on a season when the Skins might have made the playoffs (they weren't going anywhere once in the playoffs, but they might have had one more game). Terry Robiske got a whole lot more out of that team in those final games than Norv did, right? 3. He made it clear that Bruce Smith had to get plenty of minutes last year when the coahces were ready to give him only minimal spot duty - because Smith couldn't get the job done anymore. That helped team chemistry! 4. And MOST IMPORTANTLY, it was Danny Boy who hired all these coaches who hired all those staffs who did not get along with the prima donna players that Danny Boy brought in here. Who are you going to blame for the coaching hires? |

If I bring in employees I expect them to work professionally. I think he may have learnt that this isn't the case in Pro Sports. 2. Thanks for clarifying sports, I had thought JJ had the Cowboys for longer than he did, but I guess not! There are coaches who have never played a lick of football but are excellent coaches. I'm not saying I was offended, it's just that playing organized football doesn't discredit someone for understanding football things.
Either way, I hope the rivalry gets going again, because we've lost more times than I can count. At least my boy beat them once! VIVA SPURRIER! |

What is Snyder accountable for? For that matter, what is any owner, including JJ, accountable for? Snyder has a great marketing machine but we all know that Skins have the most loyal fans even before Snyder became an owner. He has generated a lot of excitement and extra money in revenue but he hasn't delivered anything to the fans yet. And if, god forbid, Gibbs doesn’t win what do you think will happen? How can one possibly get excited about the Skins after Gibbs? I mean, if the Skins were a publicly traded company the fallout from the fans would surely bankrupt them. The Snyder story will end in chapter 13 unless he chooses to condense the story to 7 chapter. |
i can't see how jerry jones is able to live down in texas.with all that heat and humidity, i wonder how his face keeps from melting?i thought plastic would melt in high temperatures.

haha, yeah. Jerry Jones does have that whole robotic look down
|
It sounds like all JJ can do is take pot shots at Danny Boy...I guess he's a little jealous. What do you think?
|
You guys are missing something here, the reason that Cowboys have just gone through some fairly poor seasons recently was mostly down to poor cap management in years past. Big contracts for the likes of Aikman and Sanders came back to haunt them.
With all Snyder's spending you've got to wonder if the Redskins aren't heading for exactly the same thing, and Snyder can't claim the success of Jones when his team had the money to spend. Jones has learned his lesson about spending with a credit card mentality and the Cowboys are definitely on an upswing. You've got to worry where Snyder is taking this team. |
the way i look at things is the salary cap is going to eventually bite back everybody on the a$$ eventually.you may as win while you can and worry about tommorow next week. :D
|
In today's NFL you have to sell your soul for a super bowl. You pay a bunch of guys, hope you have the talent/coaching to win it, then regress back to that of an expansion team and try again. It's too hard to keep players nowdays.

As I said, I'm sorry if I offended you.
No need to apologize. It was said with sarcasm, but sarcasm doesn't exactly translate to bytes sometimes. :) I appreciate your posts to the fullest extent. We need some more well-versed posters, like yourself, on here. |
I agree. You can't worry about what might be. Who would want an owner that says "well I don't want to spend money on my team because who knows what might happen in a few years"? Besides, by 2006 when the "Redskins Apocalypse" is supposed to happen a lot can change. A new tv contract might significantly increase the salary cap for one thing. We've said it here before; When it comes to business Snyder is no idiot and he'll find a way to make things work |
The only way JJ will shut up is if we start beating them consistantly. I'm thinking that may start this year!!! We've definitely got two QB's that are both better than the two they have!!!
|
with all that money he has,one would think jerry jones could buy a whole lot better face than the one he recently purchased. :silly:

Hi all! Every time I hear Snyder mentioned by one of the big media outlets or ESPN personalities, I'm amused by the condescending tone they use to describe his off-season acquisitions. You can almost see the green envy oozing from their ears as they ridicule his big spending, wishing their favorite teams had made such a splash.
I think the Snyder-bashing has take on a life of its own, at this point. It's backlash, pure and simple. Jones took this same type of criticism down in Dallas in the early 90s. Once it becomes fashionable to badmouth an owner, he gets heaped on. As for the viability of these long-term, back-loaded contracts, maybe the Skins will have to dump talent in 2-3 years to remain under the cap, but hopefully in that time, we've won a SuperBowl and the Skins will have a plan for the draft to keep the team competitive. As a fan, I'm thankful to Snyder for making the off-season almost as much fun for Skins fans as the regular season. |
As a fan, I wish that Danny Boy would make the actual NFL season more enjoyable than the off-season. So far in the reign of Danny I, that has hardly been the case.
I suspect that most of the participants here would trade playoff appearances and an Super Bowl appearance for the wonderful off-season signings that resulted in 5-11 last year. But maybe that's just me... |
