Redskins release Devin Thomas
Woah!
Redskins Insider - Redskins release WR Devin Thomas |
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
Unbelievable. I guess he was a real project.
|
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
Someone will snap him up quick. How about NE?
|
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
Yeah I knew the guy was really struggling in the eyes of the coaches, but he's been very solid in the return game. I'm surprised we just straight up cut him. Sheesh. What a waste.
|
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
To say our receiving corps is paltry would be a compliment. I wish we could find a way to draft AJ Green. We'll need to win less than 4 or 5 games to get that chance though.
|
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
So who is going to return kickoffs now?
|

Banks or Simpson. |
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
Really shaking my head right now.
|
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
You got to earn your keep...I really hoped they would turn him into a good WR. I guess all the off-season talk was lip service.
|
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
Wow! The Skins have not had any success at grooming WR's for the past 10-15 years...is it the WR's we bring in or the organization that can't produce players... maybe a combo but this needs to change!!!

Me too. Maybe it's the conspiracy theorist in me, but I can't help but think there's more to this than meets the eye. The guy was averaging nearly 30 yards per kickoff return, plus he's still really young with the proverbial upside. Are Joey Galloway and Roydell Williams really better for the Skins right now? Thomas hasn't even seen the field as an offensive player under Shanny. Was he so bad in practice he didn't even earn a snap? GTripp is going to have some "I told you so's" on this one.... |
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
I would cut Roydell Williams and promote Austin from the PS right now. I bet the 7th rounder can produce unlike our 2nd rounder.
|
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
Well DT is gone and at least he could stay healthy. How much you wanna bet the Skins are gonna wave buhbye to Kelly in the off season?
|

This year, Thomas couldn't make inroads despite a wide open No. 2 receiver competition that still hasn't been adequately filled. Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said recently that Thomas needed to take a "more professional" approach to practice to earn playing time on offense. |

Who is our WR coach? Maybe that needs an overhaul? |

i really hope they give a better explantion...i mean he beasted in a couple games last yr, obviously it wasnt enough but to throw away a second round pick is just a horrible waste |

It was Stan Hixon for the longest time. Now it's Keenan McCardell. |

$10 says another team picks him up and he goes ape shit the rest of the year. Always seems to work that way for the Skins. Redskins' garbage is another team's gem. |

More professional, huh? Smells like a my-way-or-the-highway move by Shanny I guess. |

By the way that paragraph was from ESPN's Matt Mosley. |
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
This was a rumor I'd been hearing for a couple of weeks that I thought couldn't possibly be true. They kept saying he'll be cut if he's not traded and I thought "no way" guess Shanallen don't play that. DT also probably didn't help himself going around this week implying the reason he want playing was personal. Oh well, Tripps happy

You are right that needs to be looked at but he has only been here for a short time! and history tells us that he does catch on with some other team and He will be a average player. He will torches us in a future match-up making us regret the move... I have seen this one before!!! |
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
I'm just thinking back to the offseason when people were talking about how malcolm kelly and devin thomas were going to go off this year.

Not sure this has anything to do with Keenan McCardell. The guy has been our receivers coach for all of four games. Plus look at how little he has to work with. Can't expect him to turn coal into diamonds in a month. |
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
DT made his own bed. Let's not forget how he couldn't pass the conditioning test his rookie year, was always inconsistent in his route running, has iffy hands, and despite having a golden opportunity this year with a relatively thin WR corps, couldn't rise above the likes of Galloway, Armstrong, etc.

Why is it that he is given coal to work with...It is more like turd! I think it is even higher than him. We just don't do well in getting the most of players or developing them...if they are not world beaters than they are out in Washington! Getting world beaters cost $$$$ and drafting them is tricky! We need to fix that. Is it Talent evaluators, scouts or will new GM be more in the right direction? We are looking for the wrong things! :soapbox: |
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
I guess running precise routes matters to Shanny...
Whatever. I'll trust the new regime on this one. God knows the old regime responsible for bringing DT here doesn't have any credibility. What's more likely: Shanny and Allen have no idea what they're doing or Vinny and co. made a bad pick? You decide. |
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
Unreal. I just recently heard all the trade rumors surrounding Thomas, so you mean to tell me we couldn't even get a 7th rounder for him???? Seriously Allen?
|
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
What has he done to justify any sort of pick in return? I knew trying to trade him was going to be a real stretch.

Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
Hahahahaha!
My brother and I have had a running bet for beers the last three seasons as to who will have the more productive year receiving between Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly. I of course have had Kelly each year and I always lose because Mr Glass never plays and Devin Thomas(who I think stinks) wins with 240 yards receiving. Now this year I'm really screwed because Mr. Glass doesn't even make it out of preseason and all my brother needs to win the beers is for Devin Thomas to make one freakin reception. And it doesn't count if he makes two receptions for six yards for some other team this year. Epic push! |

1- teams pay for potential, 2- he was a very good returner. 3- a 5th-7th rounder would have certainly been warrented. |
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
If any team out there was willing to trade for him, we would have gotten something for him.
The fact that nobody would even give up a 7th rounder for him says 2 things: the rest of the league agrees with Shanahan, and/or they knew he was going to be cut so there's no use in trading for him. Anything higher than a 7th rounder would have been a pipe dream anyway. The guy hasn't done squat. |

Well, we have been shopping him for a while. Obviously if anyone had offered even a 7th rounder we would have taken that over just flat out cutting him. He isn't worth a side of rice pilaf apparently. |

Having suspect agility and vision does not give him a high ceiling. |
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
Bust City...no surprise here
|
Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas
What the heck are we doing? I thought he was an Ok player oh well hey Mike Shanahan knows better than any of us do!

Yeah, plus Keenan hasn't been a coach for that long. Shoot it is practically yeseterday he was still an active player. Maybe Devin had a little attitude at practice as a result of not playing or automatically put on as a starter. Promote Austin and hope for the best. Maybe we should have traded for the "Freak". |
