Anyone Getting Hassled with Tailgating?

First off, I understand the rules of tailgating, parking pass is for one space only and that's it. It's not for tailgating, etc. So by all means what we are doing is wrong, but I'm going to explain why I'm ticked off a little.

I park in the Green Lot behind the players lot, which is what I assume to be the over flow lot because people don't start to come in till about 2 hours before kickoff, but really doesn't start to really fill till about 30-60 minutes.

We do not park in the front row spaces nor the back row spaces, but we are close to the back of the parking lot, I'd say probably 2-4 rows from the back. We also aren't in the dead center of the lot either, we are close to the end of the lot.

Now the reason I'm upset is, we've been parking here for the past season and NEVER had a problem. We didn't have a problem Week 1 against the Cowboys, but Week 2 and this past Sunday we were talked to both times by the staff.

Reason we don't like parking in those front / back lots is because they have been used by the same people since we've been parking there and we don't feel it's right to take people's places who have been parking there for years or decades you know?

The game against the Texans we were told, "You can't have the tent up, if you want it up you need to move to the back." So we asked the guy, we can tailgate here just like we are, just can't have the tent up? He then kinda got confused because it didn't make sense either. We told him we leave an hour before kickoff before anyone is towards that side of the lot, which is 100% true. He then told us, "Oh well that's okay as long as it's down by the time cars are coming in."

No problem, didn't mind, I understand not taking up spaces when there's people coming in, but when nobody is there and we aren't taking spaces up, I don't see the problem.

Well yesterday, guy comes by on a cart. Says, "Hey, just so you guys know when the cars are starting to come in you're going to have to take the tent down." No problem and that's all he said, told us to have a nice day.

Not even 5 minutes later, the same guy from the Texans game comes over, "Hey you guys own season tickets?" Yes. "Then you should know you can't have your tent up, I told you this last week." Told him exactly the same thing as the Texans game and what does he say? "Oh okay that's perfectly fine."

I mean if the parking lot is getting packed and we have it up I don't have problem at all, but I mean the damn parking lot isn't even half way filled and they are bothering us when we are like 20 rows from everyone if not more.

I mean there's buses who come in the lot, take up two spaces then about 8 more with all the people and grills. Yet they don't bother them. This isn't the RV lot.

Anyways, here's where we park at, picture from the Cowboys game, just four of us, not a group or anything:

I got hassled at the Texans game myself. I don't remember this ever being an issue.

Re: Anyone Getting Hassled with Tailgating?

I know they changed the parking lot staff or I believe they did so I'm guessing that's part of it.

Like I said if we were still like that when the parking lot was getting filled and cars were flooding in I'd expect them to say something, but not when there are still hundreds of spaces.

You have a nice setup there. I almost think I remember you from the Texans game- do you have a 42" or so in the back of the pickup ? Anyhow, I feel you for you. You pay all this money get excited and security is busting your balls. I've seen a million people with tents. I too park in the Green lots, I would say find the area with grass and park on that. Your truck is large but other people take up JUST THE SAME AMOUNT OF ROOM. I understand where they are coming from but that area obviously is run by some jerks. I would try the D/E Green lots where its nothing but bean bag toss games, beer pong ,and tents everywhere and you can barely drive past and SECURITY NEVERS messes with them. It seems they just want room so more people can park and spend money inside the stadium. I also park along side the fences so I can tie tarp to the car and give us a canopy. Sorry to repeat but I would def. switch it up and try another location.
This Colts game I dont expect to tailgate at all hoping I can watch Manning/Wayne warm up together.

They want more room for people to park because it is 93,000+ stadium with parking for 60,000.

Re: Anyone Getting Hassled with Tailgating?

Well we like where we park. We have UL seats so that lot is a B line right to the escalators which we take up, plus where we park we can leave through the back easily. Further back we'd have to cross the 4 rows because of the fence that's in place, we'd have to go around that which would be a big ass hassle. Big ass truck trying to get around parked cars, people walking / still tailgating and broken bottles.

We don't have a television though.

It would have been nice if they have had the foresight and engineered a better location for the stadium instead of building the largest stadium in the league with only 3 exit points where traffic bottlenecks for 2-4 hours after the game.

They need more off lot parking besides the cash lot. I would suggest a parking garage but that would be a nightmare and if more money gets invested in this stadium I dont think we will EVER see the day when we move back to DC.

But if they wanted to keep putting jumbotrons in the parking lot during tailgaitings hours that would be a beautiful thing.

Yeah Snyder is saddled with this albatross he didn't build. I know people like to crap on the experience but I can't bring myself to blame Snyder too much for it.

First, if we didn't suck every year people wouldn't give a crap about the "experience". 95% of the "experience" is the game.

Second, the logistical limitations of the stadium are vast and essentially not improvable. None of them are his fault. He didn't build the thing or locate it where it is.

Third, Snyder has done some stuff to make it better. The escalators he put in. They are a god-send. Cooke should be dug up and shot for building the stadium without them. Then he basically paid an entire year for those stupid private shuttles out of his own pocket because the gov't screwed him. Then he did his best to fix it by leasing and buying as much land as he could near the stadium to create new lots so they could get rid of the ridiculous shuttles.

Fourth, the games still sellout. Why the heck would he spend any money to make it better when the games are consistent cash-cows? Until people actually start showing they care with their wallets I don't blame him much for the perceived issues.

I am not a huge Synder fan by any means but I agree with all your points. He's done a lot to improve a very mediocre situation with the stadium lots, location, etc.

That seat:space ratio doesn't sound bad. Not everyone in a seat is going to drive a separate car.

The problem is they have no clue if you know the rules so they have to inform you when they see the tent. For all they know your going to leave up the tent and take up another spot. I perfer the grass lot on the left as you enter across from the church.

Yeah that's the Red Lot or now I guess the church cash lot. I believe the church ended their contract with them last year didn't they?
Yeah just sounds like some guys doing their jobs.
Yeah, I didn't mind the first time or even the first time from the new guy, but when the guy who came up again telling us that we needed to move, only to say the same thing he did last time kinda irritated me.

I understand they are most likely watching him on camera so he has to come up and say something, but all he has to say is hey, just make sure your tent is down an hour before kickoff. Not, you know better, trying to give us a lecture, then to say again it was okay what we were doing.

Re: Anyone Getting Hassled with Tailgating?

Simple solution, instead of coming here and voicing your complaint why not e-mail the head of the security staff or parking with your complaint which gives them the opportunity to tell their staff to leave people alone until traffic is flowing in or your hindering parking. ;)

Better yet all he has to say is "hey nice set up, hope you have a nice day."

This way it looks like he stopped and said something to them on camera, but was not a jackass every week. Plus it sounds like they really don't know what the rule is if different people are telling you different things, then act confused when you call them on it.

I believe they have 21000 parking spaces last I heard (probably more now). For 93,000+ people.

At the texans game they made us pack up and move like five spaces away (but we were not closer or further from the stadium) and then new people came and set up right where we were at and they didnt do anything. Kinda stupid if you ask me.

Sorry, just figured that possibly if it was an outside security company then e-mail the company itself. However there has to be someone who is responsible for them while on the property.

In other words someone at Redskins park must be in control of hiring security and giving them set guidelines as to what is ok and what is not. If nothing else e-mail the Redskins but address it to our buddy Mr. Snyder. See if you get a response. It is his property so he can make up the rules or change them. He can always go to whoever is in charge of the security and tell them to chill out.

Re: Anyone Getting Hassled with Tailgating?

One would also think that if Snyder gets enough e-mails about the same issue then he would address it. Heck maybe you'll get lucky and he'll show up to see what the issue is and sign some autographs. lol. JK.

Re: Anyone Getting Hassled with Tailgating?

IB - If you guys are one of the first there, and you know there are places in the front/back that people don't have the elaborate set up you guys have, then I wouldn't feel bad taking space where you won't be harassed. And while I'm for traditions, it is a first-come/first-serve lot.

I actually parked in that lot this past Sunday as "overflow" since the green lots nearest Arena Drive were very slow to park on Sunday. I guess since most people come in 202/Brightseat and Arena Drive, the lot you park in is very slow to fill. While it sucks that you are being harassed, you can certainly be pro-active in making sure you park in a different spot as to not be harassed.

Re: Anyone Getting Hassled with Tailgating?

We aren't the first ones there. The picture shown was from the Dallas game where we did get there really early, but a lot of people hadn't shown up then, either because they were waiting for the rain to clear or because they didn't want to get there that early.

We usually get there around 10-10:30 for 1pm games and by that time the front rows and back rows are filled, except for the ones closer to the fence, but like I said we don't want to park there because a) you'll be trapped in and b) the Excursion is huge, it's hard to get around people in it, especially with everyone walking and still tailgating.

There were a fair amount, I wouldn't put it on level with the Pittsburgh game, but more than I would have liked.

They started up their little GO PACK GO!!!! chant too, till our whole section started booing them and then over ran them with LETS GO REDSKINS chants.

I heard behind their sideline in the lower level there was noticable gold and green, but I don't sit down there so I can't confirm.

We use to tailgate all the time there, can't remember which lot...orange or purple...anyway we never had any problem. We pulled out grills, had our chef (my cousine, no i didn't pay for chef) grilling, chairs, tents what ever we wanted. The staff where we parked was actually really freaking cool. They would tell trucks that came down to either move over, or find a different route. I never had one bad experience there.

That's where I was in Section 119 and there were plenty of Packers fans in front, to the sides and behind me. Everytime they started Go Pack Go, my buddy and I would chant Go Back Home. They were pretty noisy for the first 3 quarters, then pretty much taken out by the Skins comeback. Once Rodgers threw the pick in OT, a good many of them headed for the gates.

And this is the bottomline in FedEx. If the Redskins don't want the opposing teams fans getting too loud, play a competitive game.

InsaneBoost 10-14-2010 11:19 AM

Re: Anyone Getting Hassled with Tailgating?

That, but at the same time I think our fans need to stop being, well, pussies and letting them chant all they want, they need to boo over them or get louder with a Redskins chant.

It's like they all sit there astonished and upset that they are doing these chants, but don't want to do something about it. I always either boo or start a chant up to override them, just a lot of our own fans sit there and wont join in.

Obviously if we are getting blown out that's another story, but still being in a game and allowing opposing fans to do that, really upsets me.

CRedskinsRule 10-14-2010 11:39 AM

Re: Anyone Getting Hassled with Tailgating?

Well, most of the time the opposing team fans start their chant is when we want it to be quiet, ie our offense is in the redzone. So overriding their chant still negates "home field advantage". I can't get too worked up over it, (except dallas fans who i hate), like this past Sunday I was sitting next to Packers fans, and when our team started winning, guess what, they quieted down. Amazing how that works.

Also, they paid their money, and they root for their team as hard as we do the Skins, why ruin their experience if our team can't do it?

Well the GO PACK GO chant started during their offense, while we were on defense, but I believe it was either during a commercial break or between a play so we were naturally quiet.

Has nothing to do with ruining their expierence. A) It shouldn't be happening period, we should be making noise all game and B) Our fans need to show up to games.

I understand that sometimes things do come up, but I think ours fans just care more about money than supporting the team sometimes. I know a guy who only goes to the NFC East games and sells the rest. I don't understand that. If he lived far away and could only make a couple games then sure, but he lives right near Fedex. People like him ruin people's chances of getting season tickets who want to be there every game.

I remember arguing with someone on ES once because they had been complaining about the amount of Steelers fans in Fedex, but guess what, they sold their damn tickets to Steeler fans as well. Some of our fans, as much as I hate to say it, are just complete morons.
