Long way to come in a year. Congrats, he deserves it.

If he keeps balling it's just the beginning. Not bad for a bust.

THAT'S BIG!!
Good to see some of the guys getting props fos some hard work and good play. Big time stuff for Shanny as well as he is proving in many ways "his way" works.
AND I have to be honest. I have enjoyed the positive media attention the team is getting as we turn a few heads.

Last year we ALL were talking down on LL.. The guy has become a MONSTER on the field. He may be the best Safety in the NFC right now.

What I REALLY like that I am seeing out of him......fear factor. He is beginning to scare guys with the knowledge he "is out there, somewhere". Sean did that real well. Big asset.

He caused two turnovers, one of which led to the game winning field goal. He deserves this honor.

Well deserved. Great game, LaRon.

Now do it again.

He is fulfilling what was expected of him according to his draft status, he is to the Redskins what Patrick Willis is to the 49ers, a beast!!

Yep. Primetime stuff right there!

I know I was on the bashing bandwagon last year, as I continually watched him get burnt deep every day!

It is amazing what happens when you use a player to his specific talents instead of trying to use him out of position.

Amazing what a difference playing in your position and proper scheme makes.

This is huge IMO. No doubt it's partly Laron maturing and partly the new regime demanding all around better performance.

The talent is Laron's tho...he's a natural in the SS spot.

Pro Bowl bound. Landry hasn't just made plays, but he strikes fear of bodily harm for receivers roaming his area. I daresay his play is reminding me of #21, which would have been considered heresy last year.

This is GREAT news .. i'm so happy for Dirty 30 ... just makes ya think sometimes how crazy that tandem of 21 and 30 would have been and how things may have been different the last few years .. RIP ST, can't help but think of ST when i watch Landry fly around .. nothing but a great compliment to a great player and a true individual - HTTR

I always hear this, but didn't he play FS as LSU?

Re: Landry wins NFC Defensive Player of the Week

I've seen enough where I can say pretty confidently that his play has been no fluke. He's finally being used to his strengths in this system, and it sounds like he's worked hard off the field especially in the film room. Landry has arrived. Time to recognize the beast for what he is.

Re: Landry wins NFC Defensive Player of the Week

I knew when we drafted him that he is a stud football player. He could play LB or RB and probably do alright. He is a gifted athlete.
I was one of the few that defended him last year and I did not want to dump or trade him.
After watching him his rookie season here with ST that I knew it was a scheme and coaching issue that caused his issues last year. He regressed after Blache took over the defense. If GWillilams had stayed there would have never been a drop off.
Thank god we have a new FO and coaching staff. Snyder has been so quiet, he really learned his lesson and is behaving more like JKC. Sign the checks and hold the FO and coaches accountable. That is all. Thanks.
Now we have to decide if we extend Dirty 30's contract...I say yes please.

Landry is starting to remind me of a young Steve Atwater the way he has been blowing people up from all over the field. The switch back to his natural position has really revived his career. I would say watching him play has been the most fun I have had as a Skins fan since Taylor was murdered.

That's awesome! He deserved it.

Now let's show 'em that it's not a fluke & have another huge game against the ponies!

Just another reason Blache had to go: misusing the players we have.

Not a bad comparison, but luckily Landry is faster than Atwater.
I always hear this, but didn't he play FS as LSU?
Yes, for the most part Landry was a FS, center-fielder type, at LSU. Opposing offenses avoided the deep ball against LSU's defense and it had a lot to do w/ Landry.

Still, FS is not his natural position at this level (sorta obvious at this point). Observers far more knowledgeable than me will be able to say why this is the case but I have a few guesses.

Landry so far lacked/lacks the skill to play FS. IMHO it's a more difficult position than SS. At FS it's all about reading the offense (even directing the offense), taking near-perfect angles and having tremendous discipline. Landry struggled mightily in that position, I guess even to the pt where he lost the confidence to put the hurt on ball-carriers. More than anything I noticed he was constantly a step or two late getting to the ball before this season.

SS seems to have less overall responsibility, doesn't have to think quite as much, gets to react more than direct. Landry's physical ability is off the charts and combined with his skill enough to maybe make him the best SS in football.

I agree that a player needs a different skill set to succeed as a FS in the pros VS college. The most important of those is discipline, something Landry lacked to a certain degree, however a lot of the blame has to be at the feet of Blache as 1 he failed to realize that LL could be better utilized at SS and 2 he never did anything top help LL be a QB of the secondary as a FS is supposed to be!
