More injuries on the OL

Unbelievable!

Wilson Hurt in Debut

Right tackle Mark Wilson, the rookie who played well in his NFL debut Sunday, suffered a knee ailment in the game that may force Washington to reshuffle its offensive line yet again. The Redskins won't know Wilson's status until late this week. If Wilson doesn't mend in time, Coach Joe Gibbs said yesterday, Ray Brown will switch back to right tackle and Lennie Friedman will start at right guard. Brown has been the starting right tackle in eight games this season. Brown 41, switched to right guard, his natural position, after right guard Randy Thomas was forced to miss Sunday's game with a groin injury. But Thomas said he hopes to return this weekend. . . .
Defensive end Phillip Daniels, who missed the past three games with a groin injury, expects to practice fully this week and possibly return Sunday. . . .

Place kicker John Hall, who returned Sunday after missing five games with a groin injury, said he didn't suffer any ill effects from the injury.

"It felt fine," said Hall who kicked off twice and made an extra point.

how many more players can we have get hurt this year?
this is the worst i can remember us ever getting hurt

Gmanc711 11-30-2004 12:06 AM

Wow. He looked pretty good in his debut and I was looking forward to seeing him play again. So we now have 2 starters out, and a pretty average at best center. The right side of our line is absolutley blasted. Really though, what are ya gonna do?

aehs77 11-30-2004 01:33 AM

alright stop playing anybody who we might need next year.

That Guy 11-30-2004 07:26 AM

forgot, daniels is playing below salary this year too... man, our bench is an all-pro team.

Redskins_P 11-30-2004 09:10 AM

Great...next thing you know we'll have Cooley playing tackle..

MTK 11-30-2004 09:18 AM

Looking back now losing Jansen in that first preseason game was a very ominous sign of things to come. :(

it's a damn hurricane this season

jbcjr14 11-30-2004 10:06 AM

Matty:

Watch the hurricane comments, we take offense to those down here in FL! J/K, it's been nothing short of a disaster with the injuries this year. Damn, it can hopefully only get better!

offiss 11-30-2004 10:54 AM

Wonder if Molinaro will see some time? Might as well see what we have in the guy start the evaluation process for next year.

heybigstar 11-30-2004 06:45 PM

i hope wilson comes back,
I would like to see us beat the Giants this week and its probably our best chance
for a division win this year.

sportscurmudgeon 11-30-2004 08:08 PM

heybigstar:

The early line has the Skins as two point favorites over the Giants this week. Oddsmakers see this as a low scoring game because the over/under number is 32 at the moment...

skin4Life28 11-30-2004 09:37 PM

All I have to say is that it is a good thing that MR. Strahan is out for the season. Or he would eat our lunch all day sunday.

32 even seems high lol. With our offense and Eli @ QB for the Giants, I think this could be a 13-7 type game.

That Guy 11-30-2004 10:48 PM

32? i'll put $100 on the under...

MTK 11-30-2004 11:09 PM

The under smells like a possible sucker bet to me. Watch this is the week where the Skins go off and a bunch of people lose their rent money on the under.

I remember earlier in the year there was a really low over/under on a Dolphins game and everyone was jumping all over it, and it easily went over, I forgot against who though.

I believe you nailed it Matty, reason? We will be able to run the ball against the giant's which should open up the passing game, this is going to be the week Taylor put's one in the end zone, we will put a lot of pressure on
eli he will make more than 1 ill advised throw I like us big in this game.

sportscurmudgeon 12-02-2004 03:31 PM

Here's a tidbit I ran across:

The Indy Colts are starting their fifth different offensive line combination in the last six weeks because of injuries across the line. That's not something QBs wish for!

However, Peyton Manning has been throwing TD passes at a record rate and he has only been sacked a half-dozen times all year. How is that OL getting it done?

MTK 12-02-2004 04:03 PM

The fact that Manning gets the ball out so quickly has something to do with it. He knows the offense and his teammates like the back of his hand. The way the entire offense sells the playaction is also another reason teams don't tee off and rush hard.

Did anybody catch NFL Live the other night? They were breaking down this play of the Colts against the Chiefs, Manning threw one of the prettiest balls I've ever seen to Harrison. It was a double move by Harrison, he faked to the corner and came back to a post and Manning threw the ball before Harrison even made his first break, simply amazing the timing they have.

Look, Manning is having the best season EVER at QB. He's back there in the shotgun reading defenses like a book, and then throwing perfectly. As for the o-line, I don't know which linemen went down, but I bet even the backups have been there a while. And (and this is a crucial point, I think) when you are winning, it's contagious. People start making plays and stepping up all over the field. In sports--and everywhere else--momentum is vital. Right now, if Manning fumbled, it would probably be picked up by one of those backup linemen for an 80-yard score. Meanwhile, we can't run a play without some disaster ensuing. When it rains, it pours!

SmootSmack 12-02-2004 06:14 PM

JW, I agree with what you say about Manning and the fact that wining is contagious. But on Thanksgiving, they said that the Guards and Center for Indy were all rookies
