Did you watch the game today? That was a 1-5 team we just got a beating from. Excuse me but I am not going to be happy with this team until we start going out and convincingly beating good teams on a regular basis. |

dont want a cookie just giving my two cents.

we saw a 5-6 team finish 10-6 and won a playoff game a few years ago. It's only week 8

I'm with you, but know your audience. Remember when we win we're just lucky. When we lose we're a terrible franchise. |
Re: 4-4 some ready to give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My take with all major sports and teams I pull for is this when it comes to the midway point:
As long as your at least .500 you still got a good chance to make playoffs. Now you can play your way out of it with anything less at the half way point. We just have to focus now on our weakness and how to improve them and stay positive. Best ball has to played now and its all about getting hot at the right time. The advantage I see we have is that the NFC is especially bad this year so there alot of teams that gotta improve. Our offense really needs to get down to business and dig deep at this point. |

Ha that one made me laugh out loud.... |
Re: 4-4 some ready to give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we need to take a step back....name one team that had instant success on season one with a new GM, new coaching staff, new QB, crappy line, a 40yr old WR, a flag football league WR, no-name RB and a 4-3 defense playing 3-4?!
|
Re: 4-4 some ready to give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never give-up. Some people just had higher expectations than others.

Re: 4-4 some ready to give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love thread titles with 15 exclamation points.

Miami and Atlanta. Granted they didn't have all the intangibles you listed above, but they did have new coaches, new quarterbacks, crappy offensive lines and I doubt their skill position players were hot shit too. |
Re: 4-4 some ready to give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4-4 at the bye, I'm not complaining. Got a lot of work to do over the bye, but overall not a bad first 8 games of the new regime.
And just think of this, AT LEAST WE'RE NOT DALLAS! |

Sums it up so well |
Re: 4-4 some ready to give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We're an 8-8 team. I have made peace with that, you should too.
|
Re: 4-4 some ready to give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm certainly not ready to give up, but this is about where we deserve to be at the halfway point. This team will finish in the 7-9 to 9-7 range, depending on the bounces, and will probably be in the hunt for the last playoff spot, but not much more. That's a vast upgrade over 4-12, and I'll gladly take that in Shanny's first year.

I concur .... but how about we just start with convincingly beating BAD teams on a regular basis! LOL Sorry but not going to get me to be happy at 4-4. There was NOTHING positive to take away from from today's game. Nothing! We got beat AGAIN by a team with one win. Sad |
Re: 4-4 some ready to give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Lions are much better than their W/L record. Anyone who watched the game today should be able to see that.
They're still learning how to win. They're a talented bunch, now they just have to put it all together. |

Banks is amazing, if we could only clean up the damn penalties on returns.

Actually we have been quite lucky since the first win. The difference in the Lions game is we didn't get bailed out by one of their star players getting hurt, playing against Cutler, or a team pretty much giving us the game by killing themselves by having a sorry RT that holds every other play. We're gonna have to start playing football soon because as we've seen today, Lady Luck won't always show up. We have to do it on our own. |

Winning franchises don't worry about what bottom feeders are doing, they go out and take care of the type of weaker teams that owned us today. Sorry, but Dallas sucking right now doesn't erase the fact that we suck too. |

Just trying to lighten the mood. Sorry but Dallas out sucks us by a mile. |

They've been in every game except for the Rams (wow is that an inconsistent team). Calvin Johnson is the best WR in the league. Suh will be an All-Pro for the next decade or so. They have several former HC's as position or coordinator coaches on staff. They beat the Bears (though a bad rule stole it from them). :banghead: |

Amen! Couldn't agree more. Only a 19-0 team with an avg margin of victory of 15 is worthy of happy fans. |

Good to know that you are satisfied with the team we have on the field right now. I'm going to hold out a little longer. |

I won't speak for Rypper but I'm not satisfied, this loss probably hurt the most because it was a conference opponent we had beat but let slip away (unlike the Rams where we got rocked). But I'm not going to go jump off a bridge either. If Zorn should have taught us anything, it's to "stay medium" |
Re: 4-4 some ready to give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
season definitely isnt over. what is troubling though is that we continue to lose to teams deemed "worse" than us, and beat teams that are "better" than us, or fight them to the wire (colts). this has been going on for as long as i can remember, especially though in recent seasons. good news in this regard, our schedule for the rest of the season is extremely "tough". lol.
on the positive side as well, the eagles are only a half game ahead of us and we play them head to head in 2 weeks. they also have indianapolis next week. we will be fresh, and teams coming off the bye vs teams who are not fresh of a bye have a large advantage. detroit just came off a bye coincidentally and won which should make it a little less surprising to some. the giants will only be 1 game ahead of if they lose to the seahawks next week, 2 games ahead if they win. they will be fresh off the bye so expect a win, but either way, we still have them 2 times on the schedule. all is not lost, but we need to sort a lot of stuff out for sure. |
Re: 4-4 some ready to give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are actually lucky to be 4/4 at this point. The only thing keeping us in games is the turn overs. Its a building process. SS I thought the Lions beat us up pretty good today.
|
Re: 4-4 some ready to give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Halfway to 8-8 which IMO would be a successful season for this team IMO. A break or two in the second half them maybe the Skins get to 9-7 and have a shot at the playoffs...

What the hell does that have to with luck? It's not like we're taking naps and the ball is falling in our laps. Why can't our own fans give us any credit ever? Are we all that miserable? Why isn't anyone screaming that if not for "lucky" turnovers the Lions would have lost? |

Well, we're pretty miserable. Our play on the field has for the most part been pretty paltry, and at times flat out awful to watch (primarily the offense). IMO we are much improved as far as head coach, accountability, and discipline. The defense has had some pretty darn solid personnel for a while now. This year they are just being used in a manner that allows more yards but creates more opportunities via turnovers. The offense is the same old story. Half decent running game, lame WR corps, and a piss poor O-line that any QB would struggle behind. |

There is tons of room for improvement but we're an average, not awful team, and when we succeed it's not always about luck. |

We are lucky that the Lions dropped that easy pick 6 by their CB, we're lucky that M. Stafford was rusty from the long injury layoff, we're lucky the Lions, overall have an average offense and we are REALLY lucky to have B. Banks on our team. If it weren't for luck, they would've blown us out today. |

Colts are lucky Carlos Rogers has hands of stone. Texans are lucky Gano missed a field goal, Lions are lucky Portis was out and Torain got hurt and the Redskins overall have an average offensive line and the Patriots are REALLY lucky Brady fell to them in the 6th round... |

Well, a few things go the Colts way and they blow us out in that game. We're lucky Dallas is stupid and doesn't take a knee right before halftime. We're lucky Mason Crosby doinked one off the upright. We're lucky Cutler is stupid enough to keep forcing the ball to the WR D-Hall is covering.... You can go all day with this stuff. Truth be told, it's just football. As Skins fans we just end up talking about the luck factor so often because we're always in close, grind it out, cardiac style games. You can say we could easily be 6-2. You can say we could easily be 2-6. What we are is right in the middle. But I think this team is closer to a 2-6 version than a 6-2. Oh and btw to call our offensive line average is one of the nicest compliments I've heard in weeks. |
