Changes needed during/after bye week
1-Fix OL problems. Some changes are needed from the C all the way to the right of the line.
2-Time for Galloway to retire and promote Austin from the PS. 3-Cut back on penalties during returns by special teams. 4-Have McNabb work on his footwork. 5-If Torain is hurt for awhile bring in James Davis from the PS and see what he can do. |

But needs to be addressed for sure. 4- I think we are seeing the best he has left to give. They want him to spread and plant but he naturally throws off a closed stance then bounces to a spread and releases the ball. No changing that now. 5- Man O man... Lets hope he returns soon. But This is the year to see if we have a hidden gem back there. Im all for James Davis. |

He may be ready by Philly. |
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
1. Who are we going to bring in? Our depth is bad, and bringing in anybody won't fix anything at this point. We're just going to have to stick it out for the rest of the season.
2. Can't argue with that. Galloway has provided far more negatives than positives. 3. I'm getting tired of that too. Special teams needs to be more disciplined, and Danny Smith needs to start emphasizing that more. Banks is very talented and he'd be making more of a consistent impact if guys didn't get called for holding and blocks in the back. 4. Maybe you're right on this one but I doubt we can change things drastically in the next two weeks. One things for sure, McNabb isn't trusting his o-line, which is throwing his timing off, and Rabach is getting consistently pushed back which isn't allowing McNabb to step up into his throws. 5. Running back depth should be better in two weeks. We should have Portis and Torain, and Williams will probably stay too so we should be fine, unless they want to replace Williams with James Davis. I don't see Chad Simpson remaining much longer once Portis is healthy. |
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
I wonder if Dockery can be moved to RG or if has any C experience? I hate to see him wasted on the bench.
|
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
line line line line line LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
Everything starts up front. As long as we have a average O Line , we will be a average team . 8 - 8.
|
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
Not much is going to change on the line, just be thankful that teams with a front 4 like we saw today is not the norm.
Kyle Shanahan and McNabb should lock themselves in a room and work on getting on the same page. |

It's gonna be an interesting second half. Adjustments are needed, maybe Dockery can be added into the mix again as say a RG? |
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
I'm not sure what Dockery would fix. If he's not the answer at LG how is he going to be the answer playing out of position?

Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
Perhaps if Rabach were to utilize some leeches, Voodoo and three stun guns..............

Austin should have been activated after DT was released. 4. Yep, the guy is a Pro Bowler with 11 seasons under his belt. You aren't going to change his mechanics or style within 2 weeks. 5. KW is a good, bruising type of back. I think he could handle the load if Torain can't go, but with two weeks off, I think Ryan will be fine(hopefully). |
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
They need to try and get as much out of McNabb as they can for the rest of the season. If he doesnt improve, then we need to look to the draft after the season provided Rex or some other QB doesnt turn the team around in the second half of the year.
I'm not convinced that Shanahan thinks McNabb is his long-term answer at QB. |

I'm not convinced that Shanahan thinks McNabb is his long-term answer at QB.
When I think long term qb's, I'm thinking qb's that can be your consistently good qb for 10+ seasons. McNabb had 3-5 years left in him max, so he wasn't a long term answer anyways. I'm not ready to make a judgement on him after 8 games, so maybe the next 8 will give us some better insight. If he can improve and give us 1-2 more seasons I'd be fine with that, but I think we need to bring in a quarterback next season to be groomed for 1-2 years. Is it too much to ask for to have a young, elite quarterback? In an unrelated note, I do feel like this offense needs to be adjusted more to McNabb's skill set. Good coordinators adjust to the players they have. I think we need to see the offense get the ball out quicker for one, because we all know our line can't block enough to consistently have 5 and 7 step drops. |
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
We can improve the O-line by cutting Stephon Heyer
|
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
Alot of changes cant come until the offseason, until then we need to continue to try to win ugly and hope McNabb and his recievers can continue to build and grow in Shanny's scheme. We just dont have enough talent on offense to blow anybody out or play consistently for that matter.
I think its painfully obvious that the Oline is still more broke than fixed, even with scheme change. We need some serious new talent in the interior. We also need to find out if Jamal Brown is ever going to recover and be healthy enough to be the answer to RT. We need to add speed at the RB spot and we desperately need to add talent at the WR. Armstrong is a good find, but is he a starter or a solid 3 or 4? Im starting to think its the latter. This coming offseason I could see a ton a new additions on offense. |
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
1. Brown is not as healthy as I had hoped he would be, I'd start Kory L at Center, Hicks has been an understated disappointment
2. Agreed 3. What hurts is that they're have been too many inconsequential penalties, meaning it's not like the illegal blocks sprung somebody free. They were so far away from the ball 4. At this point, that shouldn't even be necessary...but it seems it is 5. In two weeks, Portis might be good to go |

I'm not convinced that Shanahan thinks McNabb is his long-term answer at QB.
we are living or dying with mcnabb at qb. grossman and beck arent the answer to the qb position. its mcnabb or bust. i think mcnabb still has a lot of talent and can lead this team to the playoffs, either this year or in the future. i hope we re-sign him. considering the circumstances he has been pretty good this year. by circumstances i mean being under duress 90% of the time he drops back. |

And who fills in for Brown then? Not sure it's a great idea to cut our main backup at both tackle spots. |
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
Grab a time machine, go back to April, and draft Lamarr Houston. Texas University bookends on the D-Line. w00t!!!

I am not surprised that our Line couldn't handle them, but that isn't the type of DLine we will be seeing (with the exception of NYG). I still look for good things this season. I expect that this week will be an intense period at the Shanahan households. Bummed by the loss, but still very optimistic, going forward. |

Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
Capers?
Wow |
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
i think Detroit has one of the best dl in the league and ol is our biggest weakness thus our struggles.

Wow
Capers was more of a joke man. I am just sick of watching Heyer getting steam rolled play after play. |
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
No offense to casey rabach, but he should have been the one that was benched, not mcnabb. He has been owned in everymatch up he has been in this year. The only lineman that has looked good is Trent Williams and that is it everyoneelse should have been riding pine because their performances have been dreadful.

I don't think we are in a position to do that right now. He isn't as bad as Rabach. Rabach needs to be demoted immediately. I want to see Lichtenjagr at center and Dock back at LG. If for nothing else it would prove that our coaches aren't dillusional. Rabach is horrific. |
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
Here's some offensive changes needed:
1. Move the pocket. Give McNabb more of a chance and get him outside with some sprints and rollouts. Our Oline is a huge weakness and K Shanny needs to start adapting a bit more. This will offer the added benefit of tapping McNabb's still decent running ability. This threat has been minimized by keeping McNabb constantly in the traditional pocket. 2. Shorter Passing Game. Our long developing pass plays don't mesh well with our crappy Oline pass protection play. K Shanny needs to give McNabb some quicker options. Slants, screens, hitting the RB out of the backfield. With games against very good Dlines coming up--Eagles,Titans,Giants X2--McNabb will need to get the ball out quick. 3. More Banks. Clearly our most electric offensive weapon deserves a few touches on offense. K Shanny needs to draw up a few plays that gets Banks into some space where he can do his damage. How about a bubble screen or two? End around? Reverse? And I don't suggest we just have Banks run flys and posts. As I mentioned in my #2--shorter passing is still the key since our Oline stinks in pass protection. 4. Two TE's. All I heard in the offseason was how K Shanny was going to have so many options with our two good TE's. Cooley has been good but I would like to see Fred Davis on the field more--with Cooley. Scrap the three WR/one TE package since Galloway is useless and go with more two WR/two TE sets. Galloway is doing zilch for us and most of his routes are long developing anyway. Davis is primarily a pass receiving TE and could offer McNabb another big target in the short/medium passing game. The TE is the best friend of a QB--especially one with a bad Oline. Why not give McNabb two to throw to? 5. Get Portis healthy. Portis might be our second best pass protector after Trent Williams. We need him back as our third down back at the very least for his blocking abilities. That alone will help McNabb tremendously. |
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
From what I read in the Wash Post a week or so ago, the coaches have been working with DM on his footwork for quite awhile now. They are trying to widen his stance as he throws to provide a more solid base to increase his accuracy.

Name a guy that didn't get steamrolled yesterday. Joke or not, cutting Heyer isn't going to solve anything right now and will only add to our needs. |
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
I would love to see Banks get more time on offense. He's one of those Hester types that needs to get the rock in his hands. He would scare the hell out of defenses. Tell me what you all think about this.

Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
1)Fix O-line
2)Have Mcnabb work the 2-minute offense (lol) 3)Promote Terrence Austin to Active roster and get this offense rolling! Release Roydell Williams please...Go with Moss,Armstrong,Galloway,Banks and Austin 4)Sign Shawn Merriman when he is released as insurance (evaluate Orakpo's injury) 5)Cut Beck and Sign Jeff Garcia (Oh come on guys..why not? lol) |
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
kidding about garcia...btw

Oh..i forgot one...
Work on the 2-point conversion please... |
Re: Changes needed during/after bye week
Galloway has nothing left. He makes no effort for the ball
TAKE HIM OUT |

I agree with you. I think we should use him for screen passes and deep bombs. |
