Best wishes to Chad Pennigton (career ending injury today)
I just wanted to take a minute and wish good luck to Chad Pennington, who was sadly injured today during his second play since taking over the Dolphins starting QB Job.
I was hoping that Pennington would find his groove again like he did in 2008, but sadly it was not to be. Pennington suffered another injury to his throwing shoulder, and with the prospect of a 4th major surgery being needed, the Dolphins already are preparing that he is done for the year and possibly done as an NFL Player. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/15/sports/football/15nfl.html Chad was always a class act in the league, and a good role model and mentor to young players. I hope he finds a job in the NFL somewhere, probably not as a player, but maybe as a QB coach or something like that... Thank you Chad Pennington for a great career, and being a great comeback story, twice winning the NFL's comeback player of the year award. Best Wishes to you for your future. |
Re: Best wishes to Chad Pennigton (career ending injury today)
Do you know that he's done for sure? I thought he'd be done after the 2nd time but he has proven that you can't count him out until he says he's done. I'll wait to hear it from his mouth before I believe it because I know from all the vets that have trouble letting go of the game that you can never really count them out.
Either way best wishes to him. Man's been a trooper for a while and he's always shown a nice resiliency when the chips are down. |
Re: Best wishes to Chad Pennigton (career ending injury today)
Good luck to Pennington. I think that this injury opens the door for Thigpen, who I think is the best QB on the team and he will prove it. Thigpen is very under rated.

Did he always have such a weak throwing arm? Or was that related to injuries during his NFL career?

Yup always, he was very accurate but couldn't pass 35 or 40 yards. |
Re: Best wishes to Chad Pennigton (career ending injury today)
Solid guy who has had a respectable career. Crazy to think he was throwing to Randy Moss way back in the day

I rememember back in 2003 or 2004 he seemed to have an above average arm, but each subsequent shoulder surgery hurt his arm strength. After 4 surgeries, his arm may not be sturdy enough to survive NFL duty.... |
Re: Best wishes to Chad Pennigton (career ending injury today)
They did a feature on him on NFL Network yesterday and said he got like $200k (maybe more more) for every start he made this year for the Dolphins. That really sucks!

Sadly, he had just entered into the incentive part of his contract, being that he was named Miami's starter. The two plays that he lasted as starter, he got paid 3 million dollars for each snap. He's obviously done for the year, but i wonder if they try to get back any money in the form of an injury settlement or something. |

He had a solid career when he was with the jets..

His shoulder is as soft as glass. I wish they guy well but he should retire.

Re: Best wishes to Chad Pennigton (career ending injury today)
There are a lot of comparisons being made to him and Matt Stafford, who as we know, will undergo surgery a 3rd time in 2 seasons to repair his torn shoulder.
For What it's worth, everyone says that Stafford's shoulder injuries were more severe than pennington, who out of 3 surgeries (4th on the way), had his labrum repaired only twice for a partial tear. Stafford they say has suffered a complete tear each time... Sad for both guys really... |
Re: Best wishes to Chad Pennigton (career ending injury today)
Heard it could be a career ending injury for Pennington. He's a resilient guy, wouldn't shock me to see him try to come back.

Re: Best wishes to Chad Pennigton (career ending injury today)
Yeah not bad at all. I would take a couple of snaps vs the '85 Bears for that loot!

Yeah me to just give me the '91 HOGS for my OL. Enjoy retirement Chad, he's a smart guy he'll get an analyst job on some TV channel. |
Re: Best wishes to Chad Pennigton (career ending injury today)
I always liked Chad Pennington. Very accurate, great intangibles. Towards the end there he couldn't throw a ball through a wet paper towel, but he had a very respectable career and won a lot of football games as a starter.
He said after his last surgery he was very close to retiring. I can't imagine he'll try yet another comeback. I think he'd be a good offensive coach in the league. |
Re: Best wishes to Chad Pennigton (career ending injury today)
Yeah. I think his mind wants him to still play, obviously, but he just can't physically do it anymore. His arm can survive a game of catch with his kids, but not what is required of a quarterback, even a backup.
I would say if he still loves the game, then bring him back as a 3rd QB for the fins, so he could be like a player-coach, but i doubt his arm would even survive practice after a 4th major surgery... |
Re: Best wishes to Chad Pennigton (career ending injury today)
Apparently the Dolphins are looking at hiring Ramsey to add some depth

The 8th time is the charm! Ramsey will be Miami's quarterback of the future! |
Re: Best wishes to Chad Pennigton (career ending injury today)
The Fins also worked out J Russell and Chris Simms apparantley. I'm hearing that they will sign Simms and Ramsey....

Re: Best wishes to Chad Pennigton (career ending injury today)
Update: The dolphins have signed Patrick Ramsey to serve as the backup to Tyler Thigpen. Good luck to Patrick, a former redskin, who I thought never had a fair chance here due to line problems and a coaching carousel. By the time Gibbs II was here with a decent line and good playmakers, Ramsey was shell-shocked and was easily defeated by crafty veteran Mark Brunell in 2005 for the starting job, who had returned to form.
